1 - missed hit 2-3 - half hit 4-5 - full hit 6 - double hit HP: 24 The old lion stood tall despite his age, steel eyes hard, determined. He seemed calm, confident, though far from arrogant. Amrun knew all too well that even the most skilled of fighters had their weaknesses, and even the most experienced could find and exploit that weakness.
A twitch of his tail was the only movement he made, he did not circle, did not pace as another lion may have done. He simply stood in silence, waiting, watching as a swordsman may have done. The stance he held, it may have made one wonder, who was this old lion, just where had he come from?
But that was a story he was not telling. If he one thought to underestimate him due to his age, they were in for a very hard lesson.

Arun wasn't sure what to make of this part of the ceremony, although if he was perfectly honest with himself, he was excited. A permanent kid and troublemaker, the adult lion found a small thrill in a fight such as this, despite his young age.
He wasn't sure he was going to win, despite the other's older age -- Arun was careless at times, and not very practiced. Amrun would probably have much more experience. It would be interesting to see how this battle went. Stepping forward, the ruddy brown lion gave a respectful bow of his head, although he still had his characteristic lopsided grin.
"Heya Oldtimer," he started, trying to be friendly, although readying his stance. He knew this wasn't about chit-chatting. Still, he couldn't help but grin. He had heard the older lion's name in passing -- Amrun. So close to his own. It must have been fate. "Nice name," he added, flicking his tail back and forth.

(( Amrun first then - hit )) HP: 24Eyes narrowed, tail lashing with a snap at the younger's words. Old was he, well they'd see about that.
"I suggest you not underestimate your opponent because of age."
He was still a moment longer, watching his opponent, sizing up the younger lion, strengths, weaknesses, abilities. He was younger, likely faster, though perhaps not as focused as another opponent might have been in his place.
There was no warning, no growl, no further words to be spoken. The old lion lunged, paws outstretched, a fire in his gaze (were this not a non-lethal fight, that gaze might have been terrifying).
I would have seemed a forward strike aimed directly at the other's chest, a dangerous move even for the most skilled of fighters. And then he turned, a sideways leap striking instead at his opponent's side, his aim the unprotected flank, to knock the younger lion off his guard and his feet.

(Roll - half hit)
HP - 22
Arun blinked at the older lion's words, furrowing his brow. No, that wasn't what he meant at all. It was just how he referred to people -- he always used terms of endearment. And hadn't he said it in a joking manner? He had bowed and greeted the other lion... he had thought he had been respectful... Oh well. So he was battling a cranky lion. It happened -- not everyone agreed with Arun's laid-back attitude.
He was about to respond and perhaps try to rectify the situation when Amrun struck, catching the other lion off-guard. "Gah!" he yelped a little, stumbling back a bit, not unnerved, but his fighter's stance had been shaken, reducing him to a clumsy mess.
Not that that was uncommon for him.
Digging his paws into the dirt, Arun tried to regain the ground he lost, lunging for the lion, hoping to unhinge him by just sheer momentum. His plan, however, only half worked -- his unsteady start didn't gain him as much leverage as he had hoped.

double hit HP: 23A sharp intake of break, Amrun skidded backward, his shoulder buckling under the weight of the impact. That had been careless of him, he couldn't afford mistakes like that.
A snarl parted the old lion's maw (though his expression was far from malicious), a low growl echoing in his chest. So, there was more than fluff to this lion, good, he would have not been so inclined to fight a child.
Amrun did not pause in his steps, giving his opponent no chance to recover, to do so would be foolish and over confident. The old lion lunged again, this time his aim was high, seeking to catch his opponent's back, to use his weight to force the younger into the ground beneath him, to leave him open to a more debilitating strike.

Arun twisted around just in time for the older lion to slam into his side, forcing him to the ground, the momentum itself causing the ruddy brown lion to hit the ground hard, his shoulder skidding in the dirt. Well damn. Amrun was certainly a fierce opponent. Not that he had doubted it for a moment -- not when the lion was fighting so fiercely. Briefly Arun wondered if the grey lion knew it was just for fun, just a game, to promote sportsmanship. He didn't know Amrun. It was completely possible that, when tension ran high and adrenaline rushed through their veins, the older grey lion may forget that this was just a friendly battle. He just didn't know. He'd like to give the other the benefit of the doubt, but with that determination...
Well, he hoped at least someone would try to stop him before that happened.
Thrashing a little beneath the other, the striped lion pushed hard with his feet, attempting to strike the other in the relatively unprotected underbelly. Perhaps that would be a point of weakness. It was hard to tell with Amrun. It was clear he had a lot of experience, a lot of wisdom, and a lot of fighting spirit. At this point, Arun was wondering if the older lion even had any weaknesses.

hit HP: 19Amrun was of course aware that the battle was a harmless spar, an exhibition, as should have been clear by talonless paws and the lack of fangs, there was no intent to cause true harm in his actions. But that did not mean that he was going to go easy on his opponent, or that he would allow an easy victory, nor did he expect his opponent to such.
A snarl, the force of the blow against his underside sent him reeling. His balance thrown, he tumbled from the younger lion's back, skidding on his side across the earth. That was certainly not something he cared to repeat.
Rolling, the lion leapt to his paws once more, seeming to not miss a beat (though he would most certainly be sore tomorrow). He had lunged again (there was no moment to catch one's breath in a real fight, this would be no different), a heavy strike with one forepaw, a blow intended for his opponent's head, hopefully to stun him long enough to leave him vulnerable to the next strike.

By pure luck he managed a blow at the older lion, scrambling up as soon as the other was off his back a little. The fight was starting to heat up, and Arun wasn't sure he could keep up. At every turn the grey lion seemed to have the upper hand, always one step ahead of him, so much that all the small blows he had manage to deal had just been defensive maneuvers.
It was not until it was too late that he saw that paw coming towards his head, dealing a blow that left him stunned, his body teetering comically on his four legs as he stumbled forward, obviously dazed. He hadn't expected that. He hadn't expected any of the moves that the older lion had dealt him. Lack of experience, lack of skill, lack of seriousness, he didn't know. Briefly he wondered if Chepi would still like him, if she thought he was a wimp. The thought made him a little sad. Winning didn't matter much to him, and looking like a food didn't bother him at all, but he actually cared about what Chepi thought of him.
Things weren't looking that great for him. He had to step up his game, or face being utterly destroyed in this challenge. Figuratively, of course. Spinning around to face Amrun, the striped lion bent his legs so his belly was closer to the ground, lunging low to see if he could perhaps knock the other off balance. Of course, this meant he probably would end up sprawled in the dust too, but Arun was a slow learner. Move now, think later.

miss HP: 18 He had hesitated, perhaps in a moment of remorse. Regardless of his motivation, he had given his opponent a chance to recover, and that moment of hesitation would cost him dearly.
Amrun roared at the impact. The blow had done little physical damage, but the effect was nonetheless significant. The lion staggered backward, his balance thrown, his head shaking to regain himself.
Damn it, careless, he had lost his chance to exploit the exposed weakness. His balance was still shaky, but he couldn't afford to give his opponent any further time to recover.
The lion charged, hoping to knock the wind out of his opponent again before he had a chance to recover.

The next move was easier to see, most likely by luck, and Arun side-stepped the attack, dancing out of the way, his grin a little goofy. He could feel it -- that urge he got when things were getting just a little too serious for him, that urge to get cocky. As many young adults, the striped lion was prone to it, although he resisted the urge much less well than some.
He wasn't really resisting very well now. He had this... this impulse to see how fun he could make this, how he could tease the older lion, make this more fun. He didn't know how much longer he could resist...
Making sure to (try to) keep his front to the older lion at all times, Arun lunged at the Amrun's side, testing him. It wasn't a fully serious move -- this was more of a probing attack, a learning experience for him. That's really what this was. A learning experience of him.

double hit HP: 16 Amrun scowled as his paws skidded in the dirt. That had been stupid of him, careless, he had leapt before he was prepared and it had caused him to miss entirely, sending him staggering off balance again as the younger lion lunged at him again. Well, at least he had learned something. Heh, young though he was, there was potential in that fuzzhead.
Amrun shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He had made a stupid mistake, and he did not intend to do so again, he could not afford to.
Eyes narrowed, Amrun struck low, paws lashing out at limbs as he rammed his opponent with the full force of his weight. His intent was to knock the other lion off his feet, to leave him vulnerable and unprotected.
He needed to end the fight soon, skilled though he was, his endurance was not what it once had been.

The striped lion hit the ground with a soft grunt, once again dazed by the sheer experience (as well as surprising momentum, in this case) of the older lion. When he had started, he hadn't thought he had underestimated him, trying to keep an open mind, despite being his foolish self. Still, as he lay a little stunned in the dirt, Arun realized he had underestimated the lion. Although he had never really fought anyone older than himself before, he realized that he had grossly underestimated him. Especially his weight. Ouch, he would feel THAT in the morning.
Once again Arun thrashed a little recklessly on the dirt for a moment as he tried to get up, an attempt to keep the other lion off his back as he got up. His ears were ringing a little from the minor aches of being thrown around, and he shook his head almost at the same time the other did, also trying to clear his head. But there was no time to lose. He couldn't afford to wait to shake off the daze the other had put him in with his skilled attack, and so once again Arun leapt at the other, although it was reckless and not very well controlled.

miss HP: 15 The was twice he had failed to capitalize on what should have been an easy exploit. Damn, he was getting sloppy, clearly he would have to subject himself to his own brand of harsh training when this was all over. It might have been said that he was old, but no, that was not an excuse, he was far more skilled than this, he had foolishly allowed himself to become rusty in his skills.
A growl, Amrun leapt backward, away form his opponent. Circling to the left, the old lion lunged high. If he could not seize the opportunity of the low strike, he would have to aim high.
Damn it he was getting tired now. No, he would not surrender.

Arun was getting tired too. You could see it in the way he moved, the way he attacked, which were getting slow and sloppy. Dancing left, batting at Amrun... very, very sloppy. He'd be surprised if he landed even one blow. Most of them missed -- each swing either landed short or far to either side. Mentally he was half laughing at himself -- what a fearsome fighter he was!
Jumping back as far as he could, Arun paused, although he knew it would probably cost him a lot. He was tired, and needed rest. Just a few seconds, and then he'd get back into the fight. Although at this point, he was sure he wouldn't win. Right now, he was just trying to give Amrun a decent fight.
