Who thinks most of this was unneeded:

In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, there are plans to streamline the statistics found on items. We want to remove all unnecessary stats, make all existing stats understandable, and make all "core" stats more appealing. Here are some examples of such plans.

• MP5: This will be removed from items and replaced with Spirit. All healers will be given a meditation-like ability.

• Spell Power: Spell Power is being removed from items as well. Don't panic, we'll be improving Intellect so that it provides mana and Spell Power.

• Attack Power: We're removing Attack Power from items as well. Instead, we're allowing Agility to provide the necessary Attack Power for leather and mail wearers. Strength will provide the appropriate amount of Attack Power for plate wearers. This means leather and mail items will no longer be desirable for plate wearers.

• Defense: The Defense statistic is also being removed from items so that players no longer have to worry about juggling around "the cap." Tanks will receive the necessary anti-crit from talents, like Survival of the Fittest.

• Armor Penetration: This ability is too confusing and "mathy." It is being replaced with Mastery, a stat that makes you better at what you do. More on that later!

• Haste: Will also increase the rate at which you gain energy, runes, and focus. Retribution paladins and Enhancement shaman will have a talent that allows them to take advantage of this benefit.

• Stamina: Players will notice more Stamina on gear as Defense, Spell Power, Attack Power and Armor Penetration are removed.


seriuosly, it was confusing enough with all the stats and now its going to get more confusing when they are conbined. and i also though only MP5 was getting dropped. so much for that.

sounds to me liek blizzard i sjust trying to mess with us make the gam econfussing but i do liek tha tmail wotn be wanted by plate ppl anymore.

After 5 years, casters will scale upwards with gear improvements faster like melee has for the same 5 years, rather than relying on set bonuses and crit/hit levels. Smart change.

They've actually made it significantly less confusing. Just because its different doesn't mean it will be hard to get :p

finally they are changing gear so that shaman healers dont have to worry about whether a piece has spirit or mp5 on it.

i'm actually quite happy about these changes.

My boyfriend said the same :p He crys so hard everytime a piece of loot drops and it has spirit on it.

they're just trying to make it less complicated, with only 5 (or 6 if you count the new Mastery) stats to worry about it will be easier to get the right gear for the right build, as said before now you don't have to worry about mp5 or spirit anymore as a shammy, or for instance figure out if you need hit, crit, penetration, or normal stats for your death knight build.

I think it'll make things more simple. I wanna see how they change pre-existing gear to show the effects of taking out some of these stats.

well i think they should have had that way from the start instead of changing it now( blizz loves messing with us) but the ideas them self sound okay

I do think the change is good, but it's just that it's something players that have gotten used to the stats as they are now will have to adapt to.

Very few leather items have the strength that feral durids use for attack power. Does this mean, that now agi is ALL they have? Seems to me like feral druids get gibbed no matter how things turn out...

They'll probably change how Feral Druids benefit from certain stats so it'll even out.
