South of the Academy, there used to be a bountiful forest. There still is, except for this one spot. In a perfect circle, three miles in diameter, there is barren ground. The trees surrounding this area have been charred black, and the soft dirt and stone replaced with fine, clean white sand. The center of this area is solid, clear glass, going well down into the earth. The glass is also in a circle, but only a few hundred feet in diameter. The clouds above this area are twisted, with an opening directly above, clouds not daring to creep over the wasteland.
What happened here?
Where did the surrounding wildlife go?
What did this?

Kaimen wasted no time travelling through the earth from the Tsuchi dojo to get to the source of the sound.
"What the hell.."
He said to himself. He felt better knowing he was here first, as far as he could tell. His chakra began to flare up as small glyphs seemed to glow through his clothing.

Ren arrived at the destination where the sky was dark and ominous. Equipped with his backpack filled with different tools, Ren hid behind one of the burnt trees.
Byakugan..!
Veins around Ren's eyes started to become physically visible
Ren was amazed at the size of the crater.
He scanned the area around the crater with his enhanced vision and spotted Kaimen's chakra signature. It was more active than before, as if he was going to fight something challenging. Ren kept hiding and was alert.

Closer inspection would reveal large metallic objects covered by the sand, scattered around the central glass. Some were small and almost insignificant, but others were massive, weighing thousands of pounds, but all of it was resistant to any jutsu or technique used to modify it.

Kaimen wasn't able to make out anything. Slowly he began taking steps forward, letting the sand shift under his weight, looking at what he thought could be metal until he got to the glass. He stomped on it a few times to test its thickness.

Ren watched closely when Kaimen walked up to one of the metallic objects. His Byakugan was searching for any kind of energy signature from the surrounding area.

There was a remnant energy, but it was too chaotic to decipher anything more than that it was there, rising slowly from the ground like smoke. The glass didn't budge. There was nothing extraordinary about it. It was just the result of the sane being superheated. It was still warm to the touch, and just a little soft, but it was clear enough to warrant a view into the sand a good two hundred feet.

Kaimen continued walking, past the glass, back onto the sand, and towards some of the blackened land.
"There's absolutely nothing here, but carnage."
He peered one of the metallic object. With a movement of his hand he drew fourth a simple blade and with a quick flash struck down on one of them. making the blade ring with power.

Ren could see the strange energy rising from the crater's ground. His eyes widened when Kaimen struck at one of the metal objects, not knowing what might happen as a result.

Nothing really happened when Kaimen struck the metal. It rang out briefly, then was muffled by the sand. Suddenly, there was a low, distant groaning from the sky, almost like a siren. It repeated three times, then went silent again, and nothing could be seen from under the cloud cover, aside from a tiny energy signature.

A pile of earth began to form under Kaimen's feet. Before it dragged around the crater and back towards the dojo. He kept silent, sheathing the blade and submerging into the earth.

Ren kept his back to the burnt tree and slid down it slightly as he kept quiet. Kaimen was leaving it seemed.
Was that a calling signal I just heard or..?
What's going on.

A few moments passed uneventfully before what seemed to be a giant bird fell from above the cloud cover. It dove quickly towards the 'crater', and landed on the side opposite of Ren with little noise, but a brilliant flash of green before it's wings folded against it's back. It was humanoid, save the wings on it's back, but it was enormous. At least fifty feet tall. It had it's back turned to Ren, but an average signature could be read from near the chest of the creature, the rest of it's body alive with rai. It was scanning the area, it's silhouette thinning as it began to turn around.

Ren felt his heart sink. His legs were shaking with fear. This thing was huge, and it had the capability of flying.
"U-Uuh-hh..--"
The mechanical beast that he spotted on the previous mission had struck fear in his heart. But this was a whole new threat. Ren didn't spot the average signature at the creature's chest.
I can't move, my, legs!

The humanoid, almost resembling an angel, turned to face Ren. A single bright green 'eye' stopped and focused on Ren, then moved along, still scanning the rest of the area as the creature moved towards Ren, it's feet floating a few feet above the ground, giving off a sound similar to electricity arcing as hit moved. As it came closer, it's features became a little clearer. It was a brilliant silver color, and metallic. There was a buckler attached to it's left arm, and some sort of firearm held by it's right hand. The wings were thick sheets of steel folded on top of each other, and it's head was streamlined, one glowing green 'eye' in the center of it's face, with two smaller, duller blue ones on either side of the green orb.
