It felt hot. Really hot. Lounging in the shade of the tree their den was made in, Mauja stared at the sparkles of sunlight that peered through the leaves. It wasn't overly exciting, but it was life, he supposed, and this was the cost of being with the female he cared for.
He flicked his tail back and forth, scanning around him. He saw cubs. Lots and lots of brown cubs. He was thankful they were his, and held a certain similarity personality-wise, but he still couldn't wrap his head around the whole idea of it. He was just out to have some fun, and these were what came of it.
Flopping his head back on the soft dirt, he closed his eyes, tired from thinking about raising so many cubs.

Isoke had carefully hidden herself among her mob of similar colored siblings, her eyes locked carefully on her father. Finally the moment she had been waiting for came as he flopped over and, with a wicked smirk, she darted through and pounced on to his stomach. "Got you, Dad!" The young cheeton gave a wicked smirk as she pawed at the larger feline. There were a lot of cubs in her family, but Isoke had convinced herself that she was her dad's favorite. And why shouldn't she be? She played with him and, and, stuff. "Guess what Daddy! I stepped on this bug and it went squuuuish." Her eyes lit up as she grinned down at the other, her tail flicking behind her.

"Umpf!" Mauja's eyes widened as the small ball of fluff sunk on his stomach. He looked over, eyeing the little cub that was the same color as her mother. "Isoke, why must you torture your father so by pouncing on him?" his head fell back and he mumbled to himself.
"A bug?" He rolled, moving into a more comfortable position. "Was it a big bug? And you squished it all by yourself?" he pressed his nose to hers, squinting his eyes and smiling. "Are you sure it didn't go craaaaack?" he moved his head back, making a guttural sound. He had to admit, young cubs were amusing.

She giggled, climbing off of Mauja's stomach to crouch on the ground beside him. "I'm not torturing you, Daddy. If I were, I'd bite you." She exclaimed cheerfully before nodding eagerly. "Yeah, it was huuuuuge! This big!" Isoke spread her front paws out a few inches to show just how big the critter had been before she giggled. "It was crawlin', but I flipped it over," Here she rolled on to her back to demenstrate and kicked her paws around in the air, "and it did this and it was soooo funny! It couldn't get up! Then I jumped on it like this!" The cheeton rolled back to her feet and then jumped down with both with both paws together as if she was squishing an imaginary bug. "And it squished into this black lump."

Mauja looked on as his cub wiggled around in the dirt. If all of his cubs were like this.....well, he was in trouble. "Ah, so it was a quick and painless death." he smirked, leaning down to grab Isoke by the scruff of her neck.
He turned towards the tree, and slowly started to shimmy up its side, until he found a large branch to lay out on. "Isn't it pretty?" Mauja set the cub down and looked out at the view of the savannah. It all looked so nice from up here. "Some day, when you're a little older, I'm sure you'll get to see it all." He could only hope that his cubs would go out into the world and see it for what it truly was- good times and bad.

Isoke yipped lightly in surprise as she was picked up, but soon giggled and kicked at the air, grinning up at her father. As she was set down in the tree, her eyes lit up in delight. "WOW! It's so, so, big!" She carefully clung to the wood as she gazed over all the savannah. "I'll get to see all of it? Really?" Isoke hesitated, then looked back to her father in confusion. "Why can't I go see it now? I'm a big girl!"

"It is quite big, isn't it?" Mauja himself had wandered the plains many a time, and he still doubted that he had seen most of it. "My love, you are a tad too small to go out there alone." he laughed, scooping her up briefly with his paw to show her her own size. "What if a big bad lion were to come up and grab you? Why, I think I would die of a heart attack just worrying about you out there." putting her down, he slumped down on the branch.
"When you're bigger, I'll go with you on an adventure. How's that sound, Issi my dear?"

She giggled and pawed lightly at the cheetah's face. "But Daddy, I can do it! I'm a big girl! I've already gone out into that big open place! A lot!" Isoke snuggled against him, purring lightly as she licked lightly at Mauja's cheek. "I could beat up a silly ol' lion! I could." She was absolutely certain of that fact but smiled and nodded anyway. "That sounds great, Daddy! Just you an' me! We'll be the greatest pair of adventurers ever in forever! Don't you think!"

"I don't doubt you, babe." Mauja laughed a bit. He knew all too well the dangers of an angry lion; he himself seemed to piss of every single one he came across. Excpet Fasa. He was a strange case.
"I think it will be fun, just you and me." he looked down at Issi, a soft smile on his face. The only thing he dreaded was running into an old flame of his, or some of his other cubs.

She nuzzled up against her father's chest. "We can go see all the mountains and everything!" She exclaimed, her excitement growing in intensity again. "Daddy, have you ever been out there and explored the big open place? What was it like? Was it fun? Did you make friends? Is that where you met mommy? Was it love at first sight? I bet it was!" Isoke smiled, licking his chin again in her excitement.

"I have." Mauja remembered the days of pure wandering. It was fun, but kind of lonely and boring at the same time. "I met your mother right here, next to this tree." he ran a paw down its side, trying to remember the day.
"With your mother....it's a complicated story, sweetheart." he remembered how she was; she seemed feeble and submissive for a lion. He remembered wanting to just see her cry so much. "And it wasn't really love at first sight." It still wasn't 'love.' Mauja didn't have the heart to really 'love' someone romantically. Sure, he loved his cubs, probably more so than his own mate, but he still cared for her, more than he cared for any of the other females. Nafsi was special to him, and that's all it really was.

Isoke frowned lightly, sitting back in confusion. "It wasn't love at first sight? Does love at first sight exsist then?" She pouted up at the cheetah. She brushed against his side, before she clamored up on top of his back. "Cause I heard that it did but I don't remember who but they did say it. Did they lie?" The cheeton whimpered, looking down at her father from his back, poking at his shoulder.

"It does exist, Issi." Mauja nuzzled the small cub as best he could from his position. "It doesn't work that way every time, though." he flicked his eyes down, searching for the female that was so special to him. "And with guys like me, well......normal relationships are kind of hard." He didn't quite know what to say. He didn't want to crush his daughter's hopes at a young age, but Mauja never knew that 'love at first sight' feeling. He knew attraction, and lust, but that only lasted briefly, usually ending in one-night stands. He wanted to see his daughter fall in love at first sight, and have a fairy tale ending, unlike himself.

"What do you mean, guys like you, Daddy?" Isoke asked, still very confused. Suddenly, the young cub brightened and she leapt to her feet although she still stood on her father's back. "Oh I know! You're so awesome that allllllll the girls want you to be in love with them so they're all jealous and you've got to fight them off so that you and mommy can be together and have a happily ever after!" Isoke exclaimed as she jumped in place, forgetting where she stood. "Is that it, Daddy? Cause that sounds right." It sounded right to her at least, so it must be right!
