The Hidden War
The Hidden War is the conflict between the Hosts, the unlucky victims of a dark experiment, and the Eves, the accidental targets of a madman's gamble.
The two sides fight in secret, afraid to be exposed, thus naming the conflict known as The Hidden War. Their reasons for fighting are their own, but neither side is willing to give up the fight. For them, it is victory or death. The side you choose might be winning or losing, but tides are turned by people just like you, and the choices they make.
Below are the brief backstories for each side, as well as their reasoning for fighting the other side.

The Hosts
In the year 2015, American pharmaceutical company GenPharm, after a multitude of extremely destructive failures, succeeded in creating a strain of biotic virus that bonded with its host and gave them a series of strange abilities. In exchange, the virus caused a sort of hunger in its host, one that could only be satisfied through the consumption of another living being. The virus, originally taken as a commission from the military, underwent a long chain of experimentation, after its initial creation. At the end of an expensive and drawn-out trial period, the military decided that the virus was a failure, having a mortality rate of over 99% in its hosts. Only a handful was left alive, and they were cast as pariahs, rejected by their creators and employers.
Fearing retribution from the supersoldiers they had created, GenPharm and the military once again pooled their resources to round up the Hosts. They were contained, and had their memories of the virus, GenPharm, and anything involving the experimentation replaced with standard, every day memories. GenPharm also injected them with a special strain of countervirus that nullified the hunger by putting the virus into a sort of stasis. Replanted into society, the Hosts went on to lead normal lives, unaffected by the virus.
That is, until now...
Why They Fight
After they were reawakened to their viral sides, the Hosts found their lives in shambles. Most killed their family and friends against their wills, and were left with nothing. Their memories, suppressed, began to return, however, and they had a new purpose: exacting revenge on the factions that pushed this virus upon them.
Taking up arms in their new powers, the Hosts fight against GenPharm and the American military in the name of justice, demanding that the two factions reveal to the public the horrible things they did in the name of advancement. Most Hosts, however, fight simply to get vengeance for the ruination of their lives brought on by the experiment.
When the Eves allied themselves with the government, the Hosts allied themselves with the enemy of the Eves, a man called The Thief. Believing in the age-old saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," they teamed up against the forces that the government had pitted against them.
Among these enemies are 26 shadowy Host-Agents, military-trained men and women boasting viral powers to match the Hosts. Their leader is a man named Host-Agent R, who is a force in and of himself, able to fight The Thief into a standstill.
Because The Thief is against the government, the Eves joined the government faction to combat him. Because the Eves joined the government faction, the Hosts joined The Thief in taking down the government that had caused all of this.

The Eves
On July 4, 2914, a group of Sigil-enhanced people known as Adam-team (a group entrusted with an experimental time-travel device known as the Eden Time Dilation Device) were attacked by The Thief (another Sigil-enhanced person) at the Eden facility. After a brief conflict, the pods were activated and The Thief threw himself and Adam-team back nine centuries, depositing them in the midst of a party. After a short continuation of the conflict there, he destroyed a Sigil, and thus powers were granted to those who had stayed nearby.
Shortly thereafter, Adam-team recruited these Sigil-enhanced people to assist them in their conflict.
Why They Fight
The Eves have been enlightened by Adam-team as to The Thief's motivations and powers; they understand what he wants and they accept that they want none of it. They also understand that there is no choice but to eliminate what stands between them in this goal.
Those involved view the Host's choice of alliance as unfortunate but unavoidable; what has to be done has to be done, and if they stand between the Eves and eliminating The Thief, then it will be done.
Against them stands The Thief and the Hosts. It's possible that they're not entirely alone, either...
