Some of the freshman in my band are REALLY starting to irritate me... don't get me wrong, some of them are working their butts off, but some of them are soo annoying, or just plain a**holes.

like this one trombone kid: he NEVER stands still! He is one of the reasons why we like never get to put our horns down during basics!
And on one of our sets, he nearly takes my head off with his friggen trombone!

And then thers the lazy sax kid, and the abnoxiously cockey trumpet kid, but they arent too bad

and this other kid, she's in my section: when we're not at attention, and our BD is trying to fix stuff, we have to stand at paraid rest-feet together, horns at oour sides and such- she always has a foot and hip out, with her flute dangling in her hand.
And i have tried to correct her SO many times on this one set, and when i tell her to move, shell like take a half step back and then ignore me. Actually one time, I told her we needed to move back (we're in parters or what ever, and we're supposed to look fairly scattered) bc we aarent supposed to be in line with the ppl beside us, and we were. she kind of moves back and then says "but joe told them to move up." "but they cant be in line with anyone either. we have to dress the foerm. Move back"
And does she move? no.
That pisses me off so much!
And she tries to correct people! Like that and other things. I am a junior, I know what I'm doing. Your a freshman and have been in this for a month AHH!!
I mean its one thing if the upperclassman cant see you and your about to get run over, but if its about a form thing, dont correct them! tell someone who can look and make sure your right and let them correct them!
Andshes been told this a number of times!

anyone else have irritating freshman?

Our section are all extremely rude, or they can't do anyhting.

Two girls are actually pretty good, but they never listen to anyone. They are always talking, moving at attention, and sitting ddown when they should be standing. Plus they back talk a lot.

Another is just plain annoying. He never shows up for morning rehearsals, is always trying to get on my nerves, but he is getting better at marching and I am getting pretty proud. I've been working with him, like standing next to him in the block and stuff so I can stage whisper stuff to him to help him out.

I'm a freshman but am considered a verteran in my band because our rookies are usually all 8th graders. And OMFG! I know I have been only in marching band for about 1 1/2 years but there is one girl who thinks that because she is 2 spots ahead of me she is better than the rest of us. She doesn't marching correctly and our Woodwinds instructor, the BD of the middle school tells her to go walk around with a metrenome so she can march in time. Does she? nope. We, as in my 4 person rookie/freshman/sophmore section, we leave the other 5 fluties alone because they would probably yell at us, that I give her my metrenome to practice with for just like 5 min. during our break at band camp. Does she? nope. She bounces when she marches, she's out of time, and then corrects me for being like a centimeter out of the line. Yeah I fix my own problems and thats why the drill staff love me, so I knew that I was out of the shape and was waiting for a check and adjust from our DM. Instead, when we are all supposed to be at standby she drops into this most horrid posture angles her flute infront of my flute partner and tries to push me back with it! I mean seriously! And she barely gets in trouble with anything. She got tired and RAN off to the nurse's tent during a warm rehearsal to "relieve the blackness that overtook her." Honestly I loved my BD the last of band camp when he would make her reset, play (which she barely did as well), and march the set infront of all of us until she got it close to being kright he just gave up. She better get better at this and get aggressive with her marching or she's going to screw over the band in "one of our hardest shows ever" according to our BD

One of our freshies, a girl that marches next to me most of the time, can not get in line.

There is only one freshman in my section, but I think I taught her well, she is very respectful and tries her best. =)

I can't speak for the other sections though. Oh, freshmen. They'll figure it out eventually.

We have the same in our marching band.
I was a newbie, (But I was kicked into Sr. Band) and previously I was in guard.
Anyways, we had this percussionist, who's ALWAYS trying to correct everyone when she's the one who SHOULD be corrected.
One time, when we were at a parade and we were all at attention, she was messing with her tuning screw (or something like that) and it made such a loud noise that EVERYONE including our drumajor turned.
Gosh and we've been in Senior for the Same period, and she's been in a band longer than I have (Navy League Cadets). But does she do everything properly? NO. She claims that she 'doesn't give a cowpie" about it. And because of that, we didn't get "Rooster of the Walk" (which is like, the division who works the best together). I'm a sea cadet mind you.

Sorry, I had to blow some steam. It's a really big pest.

I always have a problem with anyone who can't respect their Sr.s, so I never liked most freshmen in our band. They always came in and tried to act cool. stare
But there was only one freshmen I Really could not stand(And not being a freshmen anymore has not helped)... gonk He wined everyday about how hot it was, or how his arm(back, legs, head, etc...) hurt. And it even got to the point where he would spit on the ground and say he through-up, so he could sit down on the side line.

I got yelled at by my SL for trying to help a freshman. seriously? If they need help, anyne should help them. Obviously, she wasn't. If he was only a step or so off, I wouldn't have tried to help him. but he was almost to the next line ater the DMs counted the set off. And this was everytime we started from that set.

OMG! There is this new guy in my section. He is a junior but he is soooo irritating. When we were in sectionals, he kept turning around and counting at me and singing the parts at me. I was like "Hello! You have been playing this part for two days and I have had it memorized since the last day of school!" Then last night at the football game, I was having my section leader look at my clarinet because it wasn't working and Chris came over and was trying to help. I wanted to punch him in the face! burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes burning_eyes evil evil evil evil evil evil evil scream scream scream scream scream

My section is a piece of s**t. The girl who is right below me is a total b***h and WON'T do anything I say. Currently, she's injured however she still has to march BUT GET THIS. SHE'S YELLING AT PEOPLE DURING OUR PERFORMANCE. DO THIS! DO THAT!
Her family has also been known for relying on other people bc they're lazy as s**t.

There's this freshman mellophone player whose a total retard. I "stole" her penguin during band camp and named it Jeffrey. He still sits in my room next to my bear named Rose and one of my penguins named Zero. (No reference to vampire knight or code geass, it was it's a ty beanie baby and that's it's name)
P.S. it was actually on the floor and I never gave it back.

As a whole, our WHOLE entire freshman class is very immature. And I like only 5 of them. And they're very good friends of mine, or related to me.

Ah, freshmen. Well, first there's a freshman alto sax who always does these little butt-shaking dances while we're at attention. This same girl is pretends to be sick all the time just so she can sit out or go home. And then there's a freshman trumpet who rolls his eyes when I try to help him with something. For example, in our first move I'm in a line with him and the alto sax and we're marching half-time. He always misses his step off and nine times out of ten, instead of being in between the 45 and 40 he is three off the 45. Erk, it makes me want to shoot myself!!!! Oh yeah, I can't forget about the old freshman clarinetist. She missed all but two days of band camp because she was "sick" and ended up quitting because she had "a lot of other commitments." I am in all Honors/AP classes and five other clubs. I'm making all As and one B. If I can do it, then so can she, the lazy brat. And she doesn't know how to finger and F#! I remember during band class on Thursday or Friday, our BD was telling us how the drum major was going to cue and cut us off for the end of the second movement. During his instruction, she had the nerve to ask me what time it was, as if that were more important! Okay, I'm slightly calmer now.

There is one freshman who is just the epitome of bitches. And she's in my section. Sadly, because of this deal with another freshman, who I'll get to later, I'm not allowed to yell at her. She's always telling us - the upperclassmen - that we're wrong and even though she's the one farthest out in the form, that we're supposed to dress to her? Yup, that's right. She's, say, around the thirty, eight steps back from the front sideline. A bunch of us are in line with her, all eight steps back. One practice, she told me that the whole line was wrong and that she was right and everyone else should move. I don't think so. She thinks that when she marks off her dot, it's automatically correct, and thus everyone needs to dress to her. But she's not right. Her steps are always off, but she just wont listen! When the staff tells her that she's wrong, she rolls her eyes, argues, acts like she doesn't care for a few seconds, and then finally kind of moves to where they're telling her to. AAAAGGGHHHH!!!!! Then, of course, she thinks she's the great clarinetist there is. Oooh man, I cannot wait to find out what chair she is tomorrow morning (I forgot to look this afternoon.)

That other freshman? She's a flute. For about three months now we've... tolerated... her until one night someone snapped and gave her the stern talking to that she deserved. So what happened? She cried to her parents. Apparently, their precious little snowflake can't get yelled at. So, that night someone found one of the flute section leaders on the field, crying. Why? Because little freshie's dad had come and screamed the crap out of her, calling her and the whole band horrible names and UGH when I heard I wanted to go back to school and punch the guy. Now, this little freshie gets the instrument truck (the one we use to haul our instruments, props, uniforms, etc) to "change" (put your uniform on over the t shirt and shorts you should have on in the first place), she can't ride the buses, and no one is allowed to talk to her on the field during practice except for the three flute section leaders and the staff. Also, upperclassmen that aren't section leaders can't yell at anyone either. Oh, my word.

*raises hand* I'm a freshman and, ironically, I've been getting mad about other freshman messing up even though I've been messing up every now and then too =P

I do have an idea about how you feel being upperclassmen, though. My school district has a middle school band night in which the middle school bands go to the high school to know what it's like being in high school band. OMG, even the damn middle school's section leaders can't march to save their lives! I'm not going to enjoy correcting them when I go into upperclassman years...

*Rips hair out at freshman*
So, my section(4 freshman, 4 returners, 1 of the returners ineligable) is so out of shape. Our Section leader has been doing nothing but making friends with one of the freshman. They don't respect her, and so they think they can get away with anything and be brats, and then the one she is favoring over us all thinks he doesn't have to listen to anyone. And then our SL wonders why she can't get the freshman to cooperate. You have to make them repsect you. And not to mention she is never around. She is constantly hanging around other sections, and when the freshman need help she just says figure it out and leaves again. And she was making me mad yesterday at rehearsal. We have a 4 to 5 move for 8 counts, and I'm getting the feeling I have a knee problem, and she was getting mad. You can't say I'm not trying if I end up on my knees by the end of the move. She is like "bend your knees to lower your center of gravity" Pay attention if you are so concerned! My knees brush the ground as I move. I can't bend them anymore, and I am still not making it. Besides that, my knees are under so much strain they keep locking themselves and collapsing when I manage to get them to move again.

When I am section leader next year(and I refuse to not be. I'm tired of being treated like I don't belong, and treated like I can't do crap, which I can. I have inproved at least 80% this year.) I will make sure the freshman understand that they have to listen to their uppers. Unfortunately, i will hae to straighten out the sophomores next year, but it is a task I am willing to take. I'm tired of seeing our section be the center of yelling from the bD because the freshman don't march right because they refuse to.

Oh, and there is another freshman trumpet who is never at attention. Nobody tries to correct him anymore. My friend said that he was telling him that we didn't set the way he was, and the freshman's response was "Well, this is how I set." And he is constantly moving, and not playing.

well... we have a 'special' trumpet player (if you know what i mean) so all we try and do is correct his marching. I think he's in step on the field though, but i can't see him there.
And then we have another 'special' in the guard and she's acting like a spoiled brat. She stands on the sideline when we're on the field and practices her basic twirls for about 3 seconds before going and sitting in the shade of the BD stand. And she refuses to learn anything else. scream
and then my section. >.> I don't wanna talk about it.

But last year there were only 4 newbies and 2 were welcomed but now we think the other two are gay for each other because they're always together and always sitting together. They're in the same section so they can do it. And now they think they're so big and bad and good because they're now sophmores. stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed i can't wait for next years group of underclass. >.>
