With the sunrise came a cloudless day, chilly at first but rapidly warming up to fit the description of the end of summer. It was also unique to the last five days, when rain had pelted the top of the earth and rose the river's water level to almost dangerous levels. The wind had kicked up, sending leaves swirling, twisting through the spattering raindrops. For five days it seems as if the world was coming down upon them, and then, with one sunrise, it was over. Now the birds chirped in the battered trees, clinging to the still wet branches, trying not to fall off the slick bark. The meadow's bruised summer flowers opened their petals gratefully to the sun, but there were holes in the white carpet where the weaker had let go to be swept away. The river, which had sounded so angry and vengeful at night was back to its welcoming, placid self, its swollen banks lapping at the willow branches and hung sulkily over the water, and trailed in its currents. The mist that was there, blurring the lines of the world and funneling the light into visible beams was quickly burning off, and it seemed summer was finally back for one last push before fall came and claimed the land.
Belano rose to the sound of birds, and blinked a couple times, unnerved. He poked his head outside the den, and the sunlight momentarily blinded him. He shook his head quickly and stared at the changed world around him, smile working its way across his maw. He jumped quietly as he felt a ball of fluff move next to his back leg, and he whispered "Shhh." to Lilaband before scooting over to let him peek out.
Lilaband heard a scuffling, and raised his head, tilting it to one side. Someone was leaving....and it was quiet. He didn't know much about this rain, but his mother and father had said that they weren't allowed to go outside when there was rain because as a pup, Lilaband could get sick. He accepted this, but now, with his father leaving, he figured it was finally safe to go back outside. He enjoyed the outdoors, even if he couldn't see much more than blurry outlines of things called trees and the river But his eyesight was improving every day, as had his speech. Even now, as he pushed his way past his father, he growled "Watch out father! And earned a cuff on the head and a "Shhh!" He struggled free and blinked as brightness overcame his sensitive eyes.

Vivian was trying to sneak away from her family to see what else was around the area. If she could find some food on her own then she wouldn't have to depend on her family. The little vixen also wanted to see if there were any nice spots around the area.

Belano inhaled deeply, sifting through the myriad of smells that came to him, when he recognized one that did not belong out in the cool summer morning alone. He rose quickly, twisting his head from side to side, but not wanting to call out in case he woke the others still dozing in the cozy den. He rose, turning to Lilaband and saying "Stay here." before walking out of the den in search of his wayward daughter.
Lilaband huffed as his father left. Why was Vivian allowed to wander about and he was supposed to stay here? Just because he was the second youngest? Well, forget it! He took a shaky step outside, and lifted his head like his father did, though he had no idea why he did so. He took another step, and promptly fell down the slight incline to the mushy earth below.

Vivian's ears perked up. They were on to her. She tried not to giggle, but she found it a bit amusing that they would come after her. The little fox lightly ran towards the pond before climbing up a tree to use as a diving board into the pond. She wondered if he would be this desperate to get her back.

Lantana was still getting use to her new body and senses, so young and fresh in the world now her small kit body was fragile and soft. It had taken a while but now she knew the smell and sound of her family. Her father and mother, and her brothers and sisters. They all smelt different and familiar at the same time, the same yet not.
Being confined to the den for the last few days while listening to the loud sound of what her Parents deemed rain, Lantana hoped that soon she could again wander outside and learn to be brave! Yes, she was quite timid and worried about tons of things. As others walked around she liked to stick close to daddy and ask questions in stead.
The sound of someone leaving woke the kit up much faster than she really wanted to, and lifting her purple nose sniffed the air mewling tiredly. "Papa?" Ears flickered "Ma?"
Standing on wobbly feet, opening blurry and almost blind eyes, Lantana wibbled and flopped. Yes, it would take time before getting the hang of this 'walking' business. Every day she got use to it, and every day she had to re-adjust again to get the hang of it. Shuffling up more slowly this time, the small and purple kit took slow and deliberate steps hoping to find her daddy.

Belano looked behind him, hearing a mewling sound from the den. So, another one was up. He sighed, casting a scolding glance at Lilaband, who shrunk down, but smiled mischievously. He sighed, "Well, guess the family is up then. No need to be quiet anymore. Lantana!" he called, facing the den full on "Lantana I'm out here!" He waited patiently, knowing the little kit was on her way. Of all the kits, she was the one to stick by him, a thought her found comforting, and mildly frustrating. When she asked him questions, he felt like a good father, teaching his young. But sometimes the sheer number of questions was astonishing, and left his head aching. He smiled as Lilaband caught up to him, and watched Lantana inch closer.
Lilaband was not looking at his father. He was looking at a blue smudge that wasn't part of the sky scuttle along the earth, and up a tree. "Vivian!" He called, looking back at his father and then at the kit "Vivian!"

Vivian yelped as she was spotted before making her way to the end of the branch before jumping into the water. She definitely wasn't a good swimmer, but some small doggy paddles could be seen in the water as she struggled to get to the other side of the river. Eventually she held her breath and went under hoping they wouldn't be able to see her or pick up her scent.

Lantana heard her father and it lifted her spirits! It was harder to see all the blurry figures while in the dim den, but he was outside and she could now find him. Making her way to the entrance, she wobbled out and looked around to see where Belano was. First blur was her brother Lilaband, she knew it was him because he was shouting loudly.
Second she saw a few trees and then the beautiful white outline of her father. Excited and happy, Lantana ran towards him best she could, tripping over her little legs a few times in the process.
Still, she managed to make it there in one piece and pawed at Belano happily. "Papa, morning!" She tried to lick him, and then settled down to take the rest of the scene in. Seemed her sister Vivian was making such a ruckuss, very normal. She worried for her sibling but stayed close to Belano, knowing she was unable to do anything at all. "Whats going on?" She whispered.

Lilaband yelped as Vivan splashed into the water. "DADDY!" He stumbled toward the river, looking for a blue smudge among a vast blue river. His eyes adjusted slowly, and he kept saying Vivian, Vivian!"
Belano looked down and smiled at Lantana, saying "Hello Lantana."He heard a splash and turned quickly, safe kits forgotten for a moment. His eyes grew wide as he saw her flounder a bit, then go underwater. "VIVIAN!" he shouted, sprinting past Lilaband and Lantana, heart hammering, to leap into the water with a large splash. Fear gripped him around the throat as he realized that he was in the river, and for a moment, he was paralyzed, bobbing along on the current. But a flash of blue and yellow brought him back to his senses, and paddling borne from experience quickly brought him over to the kit.

Vivian was nearly exhausted and didn't have much strength to get out on the other side, but she hated to see what her father would do if she returned. She didn't want to get punished for exploring, but yet she didn't want to pass out from exhaustion either. Either way the little kit dragged her body out to the other side of the river before passing out from exhaustion. Either way she would get it and she would rather be unconscious if he were to yell at her for doing so.

Belano splashed to the other side of the river, and looked back down the bank, making sure Lilaband and Lantana were staying away from the water's edge. He looked to the right, and saw Vivian laying, unmoving, near the water. He raced to her, panting heavily, and prodded the pup with his nose. "Vivian?" he whispered, putting his ear close to hear steady breathing. So she was just unconscious. He heaved a sigh of relief, laying next to her. Belano lay there for a moment, letting the adrenaline seep from his body. He sighed, licking Vivian across the ear, saying "Your going to give me a heart attack, you know that?"

Lantana thought her sister was crazy, no wait she KNEW her sister was crazy! Who would jump into the river at their age? Who would anyways? It was insane and she was scared for her life. The kit was sure her father would be able to sort it all out but she didn't like the situation.
Padding towards the bank slightly, though trying to stay just far enough away because she could not see properly, Lantana called out to them waiting to know they were both alright. She looked for Lilaband, too. He had gone quiet after calling for Vivian.

Lilaband was worried and it didn't help that Mother wasn't around to make it better. He looked at Lantana, saying "What was she thinking? She knows she can't swim very good!" He sat down, a little bit angry at his sister for doing something so foolish.
Eventually, Belano rose, picking up the silent kit in his teeth. He padded silently to the river's edge, taking a breath and starting to lower himself into the water. He Held on to Vivian as best he could, keeping her head above the water by raising his own high. After a few tense minutes, he made it across, though he was twenty yards downstream form the other two kits

Alaxandara was sleeping but quickly woke up after the warmth of the family left her, Eureka was sleeping heavily to. The two woke up and went outside together, Alax blinked up to the sun still a little groggy, it was bright for her enhanced eyesight. Then she saw Belano with Vivian. Worried sick she stared at Eureka as in don't move and rushed in to the water. She met Belano half way and took the kit in her mouth swimming the rest of the way quickly, she had no idea what happened.
Eureka went to sit by the other kits, "what happened?" he asked confused about what on earth could be happening. Every thing was going so fast it was confusing. The usual little know-it-all kit was confused.

"I don't know what she was thinking at all, I don't think she was! Good thing Papa was here." Lantana really thought her father was amazing and brave, he saved Vivian from the other side and had even dived into the water for her! Her sister was so selfish making their parents worry so much like that.
Then Alazandara was there and Lantana could just about make out their forms as both parents came back onto the shore. She looked at Eureka and said "Vivian jumped into the water and I dunno...I think she's hurt." The kit could not see to the other side and so didn't know anything really except that they were now back. Wandering over, she mewled sadly and tried to see if everyone was ok.
