 Her mother was even sadder now than ever before and her father was missing. When she asked her mother about it, Mawu had told her he left and wasn't ever coming back. Kim didn't believe her. Daddy loved them, she knew it. Even though she got snapped at a lot because she lets on about her secret of bad vision, she knew deep down that Daddy loved all the cubs so very much.
That's why, since she found out, she sat at the boarders waiting for him to come back. She wanted to see him again, to make sure that everything with their family was OK. Nana and Papa were mad at Daddy, and she knew why. Papa never really liked Daddy to begin with, according to Momma and Kim's little mind couldn't comprehend how anyone could not like Daddy.
Even today, she sat here, on a rock at the boarder of the south side, waiting. Her siblings were getting worried about her because she didn't want to do a lot. The Gasht refused to play away from the boarders because she didn't want to miss her Daddy, she was always fighting to stay awake and was usually hauled off by the scruff of her neck from one of her older family members despite her protests. Nana had told her that it wasn't healthy; obsessing over her Daddy coming back. But she'd always been a daddy's girl. Her chest hurt so bad as the days passed and there was no sign of him, no news from the hunters she questioned. And now she was staring out depressed, only seeing a blur of colors as tears formed in her lilac eyes.

 "Kim? What are you doing out here by yourself?" Kupa's voice was filled with love and concern for his sister. The huge bright red male had stepped up once their father left and taken to try and fill the role for his sisters and mother. His big heart just tore to see any of the females he loved in so much pain.
He came to sit at her side, close so she could see him, and began to lick her ears and neck. "Kim...he isn't coming back. I don't know why he left us, but I know he is long gone." He tried to sooth her tears, nuzzling her sweetly, "But you girls have me. I will always be here to take care of you. Forever and ever. I promise."

Kupa had always been sweet to her; had always been that way to everyone. Kim'acha truly believed any female would be lucky to have her brother as a mate or at least a father. He'd be a good father. Quietly she leaned into his affections, ears still flattened, not feeling all that much better by them; though they helped. Nothing would heal the wounds Vestip had inflicted on her small heart.
"I know he's not coming back," she whispered, voice tight with pain and sadness. Their pride hated deserters, Vestip wouldn't be allowed back in, anyway. Those soft lilac eyes closed at the thought and she took a deep breath before letting it out in a huge puff of air.
Nothing was right anymore. Mommy was even more depressed, Grandpa was furious at the male that left and Kim'acha really had no one to turn to. Not to talk about her secret. No one would understand about it.
"I want to find him, Kupa... one day.. I want to find him and.... see if he loved us." Her request, she thought, was simple enough. A simple inquiry.

Kupa mewed softly as he continued to groom his sister, his own lilac eyes watching her worriedly. He didn't know why their father had left either, he would never admit it but it tore at him too. How could he learn to be a good mate and father if there was no one to teach him? But those thoughts could wait, one of his sisters needed him now.
He placed one big paw around her, pulling her to his chest as he had seen another male do to a crying female and nuzzled her sweetly. "I will help you if I can Kimmy. Please don't be sad, I will always take care of you sissy."
It tore his heart to pieces anytime he saw his mother or sister cry, reach tear like a knife into his tender heart.

Ears lowering, Kim nodded to his words and sighed heavily. She knew she was hurting him with how depressed she was, but she couldn't seem to help it. Her daddy was her hero and now he was gone. Kim didn't like it; she didn't feel comfortable or complete. Maybe her relative, Aekea, would clear things up for her when she talked to her.
Trying to lighten her head, she squinted up at her bigger brother and gave a small smile. "Daddy and I shared a secret...." She said slowly, biting down on the inside of her cheek. She wanted to talk to someone else about this issue. Someone needed to know.

Kupa tilted his head as he studied his sister. All of his sisters where dear to him, after all they were the dominant females in his life. "What is it Kimmy? You know I would do anything for you.." And it was true, there was nothing the big male wouldn't try to do for his sisters.
He nipped lightly at her ears, trying to distract her from her tears, though he knew it would take more than just a bit of play to mend his sisters heart, but it was all he could do for now.

She gave a small laugh to his efforts, wanting desperately to be cheered up by them. Clearing her throat, she nipped his nose once before sighing. "...Me... and daddy can't... see to well. Daddy only in one eye... but... me in both." There. She'd said the huge secret that could knock her down in rank. Gods, she didn't want that. Her rank made her mother happy, she knew that. "You... you can't tell anyone..."

Kupa's ears flicked back as he frowned faintly, that was something very serious, something that could affect his sister's whole life. He nuzzled her lovingly as he put a protective paw on her back pulling her to his larger body. "I won't tell anyone Kimmy, ever. I will protect you and watch over you. That is what brother's are suppose to do." He nuzzled her tenderly purring, "I will help you."

When her brother agreed to keep her secret, relief flooded over the young female and she curled into the other, nuzzling against his chin and then gave a tiny purr. At least someone else knew about her eyes. It was hard not having anyone to talk too about her problems. "It's hard... to keep like I can see things in front of the older members... I don't want to make momma sad by being put in her rank..."

"Honestly Kimmy, I don't understand rank. I mean I understand that you girls are better than we boys. You are all smarter. But momma fusses over me and I am just a boy..." It confused him a lot that he was special because of his coat color. He was just a boy, his sisters were the special ones.
He knew he was different than all the others. The other males he had met had all been smaller then his sisters, yet Kupa towered over all of them, bidding far to be larger than his mother and even their grandmother.

The yellow lioness didn't know anything about it, either. Ranks were so confusing to her, but she knew she was a high rank, and her momma's chance at redeeming herself. Maybe she needed to have a talk with their grandmother about what was expected over her and her rank. Shifting away from her brother, she tried to calm herself down and push things from her head; not worrying. ".......I ......wish I could be completely OK... So I won't.. have to lie to everyone. The Queens... if they find out..."

Kupa nuzzled her lovingly, his ears perking forward, " You are ok sissy, you just need help." He licked her ears again, " And I will help you. I can stay with you and they will think that my kills are yours." He nodded not seeing that there were huge gapping flaws in that plan, but he was so eager to help her and try to make everything better.

Soothed a bit, she pressed into her brother again and laid down more comfortably. Kim'acha was getting so sleepy because of her worrying and the secret she had to keep. With a sigh, she closed her eyes and thumped her tail before speaking again. "Kupa... can... we sleep here instead of the den? Or nap..." She didn't want to be alone. And Kupa was quickly becoming her best friend since he knew her secret.

Kupa gave a loud,rumbling purr as he curled around his Kimmy, "Sure sissy, I will keep watch." He had already decided that nothing would hurt his sister while -he- was on the job. Licking her ears again he smiled, "You rest now, it will be ok. I promise we will figure it out together."
Laying his head on her back, Kupa sighed contently, letting his lavender eyes gaze at their surroundings. He didn't know what the future would bring, he wasn't even aware that in the coming months he would be taken away from his sisters and mothers, but all he knew right now is that he had to protect the females he loved.
"Sleep tight Kimmy, I got ya."
