ok. So there are these two girls who are juniors (my age) and just made it into the top band at our school. They HATE each other putting them together is like putting gasoline and oil together and then lighting it. Both of them last year fought hard over 1st chair (in the lower band) and think they are 10 times better than the other girl. The one who was seated lower always criticizes (in a really really annoying way because she is NOT that good at all) the other girl who was first, and the girl who was first takes things really really personally and is very easy to offend. this year, they are probably most likely going to be sharing the 4th horn part for the whole year.

Now this is the stupid part. They've already starting fighting over who sits in front of the other girl!!!!! And the few times that the parts divide into chords in their part, its like ww 3 deciding who gets to play the higher part! It is the stupidest fight ever! They're not even that good and they're acting like they're finalists in an audition fighting over getting into CSO!! I just want to yell in their faces NO ONE CARES WHERE THE F*** YOU SIT!!!!!!! JUST LEARN YOUR PARTS, PLAY IT TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY AND STOP COMPLAINING! THE ONLY PEOPLE THE AUDIENCE PAY ATTENTION TO SEATING WISE IS THE PERSON WITH THE SOLO, AND THE PERSON WITH THE LITTLE SECTION LEADER STAR NEXT TO THEIR NAME! AND YOU ARE NEITHER SO JUST CHILL!.

It is high school band/orchestra and they don't even have a shot at solos or section leader until next year, and unless they start practicing that will probably be me (not to be full or myself or mean, but they are not very good) I just want to smack them, tell them that they are not competing over parts in a professional orchestra, and that this is high school band and the only thing they need to do is play their part to the best of their abilities WHICH THEY'RE NOT!

and it doesn't help that the 2 seniors seated above me hate each other too. I'm friends with all of them (not for long though if I blow up at them I've been holding in this rant havn't yelled at them to grow up yet) and I wish they would just work it out between themselves, and stop complaining to me about how much they all hate each other!

I am sure it isn't much help, but I have a similiar problem, but I am stuck in the fighting position. I am the section leader of the flutes, and the other junior {since there are no senior flutes this year} thinks she is all that and a cup of tea. She came to band one day and tried to start some drama in my section. However, much to my relief, my freshman and sophmores stood up for me and the problem was avoided. Hopefully some relief will come to you, and if it gets really out of hand tell your band director.

That crap happens all da time,it's happened to my section too, just in a slightly different way. Except da players are actually very good trumpet players, but one deserves the section leader spot and the other doesnt.

I would slap em silly, jk, I would have a chair test. Consult with da section leader, or a drum major and tell of the situation. Tell da girls straight out that they're attitude NEEDS to pick up,or else consiquenses will hapen. Hopefully that works.

A similar thing is happening to me this year.

I was honor band last year, while this girl, Maddie, was concert band (lowest band at our school). She made honor band this year, and now she thinks she's the bomb (like tick tick.). So today, as we were exiting the band hall, she said, "y'know, if we'd had a chair test, I'd be ahead of you." (We are seated in alphabetical order until a chair test, hopefully this week.) Until then, I'll be squeezing in all the practice I can so I can kick her a** and show her who's boss. (not to sound self-absorbed or anything...)

Anyways, about your sitch-i-ation. I think you should talk to the BD, since, from what I understand, the section leader is not doing anything to help.

I'm sorry to say, I've never seen anything like that happen. But the others are right. Either tell them off yourself, or tell BD.

First of all, it's not a good idea to keep all that pent up; you'll only stress yourself out. If you haven't already, you should talk to the band director. I get the feeling that if you tried to talk to them, they'd only blow up at you, which would result in more yelling and shouting and other stuff you probably don't want to happen. Obviously, the BD though they were good enough to get into the top band, but if they can't get over themselves, then they don't deserve to be in a band class higher than the most basic, in my opinion.

Aww that sucks. I'm the only person in my section (percussion) and everyone in my class ( there's only 18 of us xD) is nice so no worries like that for me.. I'd say you should tell them that its alright to compete but they should not take it personally..

That problem is slowly arising in my drumline.

There's three people in my grade and who are all really good.
A tenor player, a snare player, and myself. A bass player.
Next year it's going to be friggin' cutthroat over who's going to be drum captain.

But maybe they'll both.."accidentally"...break a leg.
Then they can't march...

thanks for the advice, I talked to one of our directors, and she told them to chill out, and hopefully it'll all be good now
