"No time like the present," she muttered to herself as she walked towards her mother's den. Feana knew she wanted her mother there for her first pridal ritual; especially one that would allow her to become an adult in the pride's eyes.
This was late because of her five bundles of hyperactive little joy she had the day she found the pride lands. Well, the night anyway. She was forever indebted to Tamu and her mate, Kenya for getting her safely to a place for birth. Her five little ones were growing up so fast. Shaking her head of those thoughts, she called out to her mother in a low voice, not sure if she was there with her mate; Feana's new 'dad'.
Hopefully her perfect sister wouldn't be there. Feana did not want her there. Feana, herself, already shamed her family when she had cubs at such a young age, she didn't need her sister there to rub it in her face. Though, she half wanted her brother to be there and half not. "Mom, c'mon! The tide'll be in soon!" She called out again, growing impatient. Today was her day.

Azriell was asleep, and grumbled softly when calls from her daughter woke her. Blinking her emerald eyes open, her maw stretched open in a yawn, shock flashing through the older female's eyes as she realized the big fluffy mass that was Kaja, her mate, wasn't there. Perhaps he'd left for an early morning stroll? Pushing herself ont her front with a loud shy, she suddenly remembered why she'd woken up - and exactly what day it was. Her maw stretched into a smile.
"I'm coming - be patient, Feana," came the lioness' warm voice, slighting chiding but full of happiness that her daughter was finally to become an adult. It was a shame - a great shame, really - that she hadn't been able to wait this long to have children. But Azi wiped that thought from her mind, not wanting to spoil Feana's special day. She padded out, smiling as she nuzzled her daughter's head fondly. "C'mon, then."

Of course her mother wasn't awake yet. The only time her mother seemed to be on time was when her perfect sister was involved. Her mood had slipped a little bit as she waited for her mother to emerge, hoping to not see Azi's mate. Feana refused to take anyone else as her dad. It was just how she was, wasn't very comfortable with mother's new mate. Though, she hadn't met him yet.
Still her mother's voice was warm. So, when Azi beckoned, Feana followed. It's what she did best, in a way; besides annoying her mother to death. What with her pregnancy before this, her wild children and all. Feana hadn't brought up the fact she was flirting with another male. And the gray and pink lioness wouldn't tell her mother any time soon. Or so she hoped.
"Mornin' to you, sleepy head," despite wanting to say something snarky, Feana kept to simple and teasing. "How's your perfect daughter doing?" Ok, that came off as mean.

Azriell continued towards the beach at a steady pace, slowing to begin with so her daughter could catch up, then continuing with a reasonable pace. The tide would be coming soon, as Feana had said - they'd have to be somewhat quick. Feana's words originally 'caused Azi's smile to widen, before it faded completely at the comment that followed. She continued walking, but an icy silence crept over the pair, Azi turning to face Feana.
"Feana, there is no reason to be so mean about your sister. I do not have a favourite - you're just as special to me as Jesenya." She paused, glancing forwards to check she was heading the right way, before continuing, "Just because you misbehave more, and hence require more scolding, doesn't mean I love you any less."
It wasn't like she was trying to come off as mean or spiteful, orignally, anyway. Hanging her head, Feana looked to the opposite side and frowned, not able to face even a side long glance from her mother. So she felt her mother played favorites. She knew her mother wasn't very proud of her because of all her misbehaving; having cubs at a young age and what not, but it wasn't as if she had planned for any of that. It just... happened.
Looking towards the ocean when they neared, she cleared her throat, ignoring her mother's words the best she could. "So how far out do I go again?" Feana's voice was wavering into sadness, but she was fighting it. Today wasn't a sad day; or wasn't supposed to be.

Azriell continued, quite aware of the awkward silence creeping over the pair. As they approached the ocean, she sensed the apprehension radiating from her daughter. Sighing softly, she reached over, nuzzling Feana's cheek softly, running her tongue down it in a fond gesture. "As far as you feel comfortable. Remember, though, the water has to cover you completely. Then you swim back to me."
Well, she could do that That was the easy part, walking and swimming. It was the whole 'hey, you've got to nearly drown yourself' part that she was nervous about. Looking to her mother, she moved to nuzzle close, a purr escaping. Really, this is what she wanted. Affection from her mother, attention. Nice words occasionally wouldn't hurt, either. But, it took two to go that direction. They seemed to be constantly at war with another, and for stupid reasons, too.
Maybe after today things would change. She'd be a real adult. Pulling away, Feana licked her muzzle and started for the water. It was cold against her paws, causing her ears to pin back and her tail to flick, though it didn't stop her. She walked until she was uncomfortable. The water was touching her chin, her paws were hardly on the floor anymore, and her breathing was becoming labored.
Still, she had to do this. She waited, trying to bury her paws in the sand so the water would cover her from the incoming tide. How much longer?

Azriell purred in response to her daughter's, licking the top of her head like she did when Feana was only a cub, before nuzzling her cheek once more and nudging her towards the ocean, in a way as if to reassure her it would all be fine. She watched as her daughter reluctantly approached the water, smiling widely as Feana picked her position, standing strong and waiting.
"Just a little longer, Feana," Azi called, loudly to be heard over the water.
Feana, however, wasn't so sure. The water was rising, already to her nose, and the instinct to bolt kicked in. Steeling her nerves, she tried to calm her mind as the ocean's waters slowly rose over her head. She counted to three before she turned around under the water and kicked frantically to get back to her mother.
Once she broke the surface, Feana took gasping, coughing breaths and heaved with every kick of her feet. Finally, her paws were on land again and she walked the rest of the way, shivering, dripping wet. Maybe they should have done this on a much warmer day. "G-gods... it's cold!"

The water rose, and rose, and suddenly her daughter disappeared. Smile breaking out over her face, Azi took a leap forwards, calling out at the top of her lungs, "Feana, that's it! You can come back now!" And she was, her daughter's familiar face bursting from the water, kicking frantically back towards her. Rushing to the shoreline to meet her, Azi wrapped her large paws around her daughter, pulling her into a hug and nuzzling Feana softly.
"Told you you could," she mumbled, running her tongue up the length of Feana's nose, "I'm so proud of you, Feana."
]Feana whined and moved into her mother again, basking in the warmth the other lioness offered as she sniffled and shuddered. The tongue on her nose made her sneeze a bit, but she was proud and happy. Her chest puffed out at Azi's words and the gray lioness couldn't have asked for anything more than this. She didn't want Kenya here, or her children.
This is what was needed for Feana and Azi to straighten out their relationship. Next, she had to straighten out her relationship with her sibling. "C-can we go back now?"

Azi smiled warmly, purring her reply, "Of course. You deserve a good, hearty meal." She nuzzled her daughter, guiding her carefully back in the direction of the dens, keeping a careful eye on her. She didn't want her getting ill from the cold.
