So my band's gotten the entire opener (29 pages) on the field (visualy) within a week and a half. What about your band? How far into to your show are you?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 12, 2009 12:30 pm

We have about half of our show on the field (playing and marching), parts one and two. We have five parts of the show total, but it's about half for the length. We have all the music pretty much down, so we'll probably be working on more new drill soon. We're a bit behind where we were last year, though...last year we had 2/3 of the show on the field already. We'll definitely have all of the show on the field by our first competition, though.

we have the opener ready but puttin both marching and the guard together makes things difficult cause then you have to think of not hitting the woodwinds and killing them with the pole!!!

Yeah, it stinks. We have nothing done. We can play our opener, closer and chorale, but we are barely even marking time while playing. We haven't set frill or anything.

My school can play and march the first two parts of our show. We have three parts total in the song and have actually drilled the beginning of part three. So far though, we've only focused on memorizing the first two parts of the song. Not everyone can play and march the show at the same time, but half of the band can play every other part while marching the show.

-Can do all marching for pregame
-Memorized two out of the four songs for pregame
-Can march all of pregame with playing the two songs
-Learned the Liza Jane dance for marching
-Memorized Liza Jane
-Can march, dance, and play Liza Jane
-Learned all the marching for four outta five songs for our show
-Memorized the first four (really three; two are combined) for our show
-Learned our dance visual for Cloudburst and Mandala
And this was all done in less than a month. And I gotta admit we're doing good cause this stuff is really hard. Much more harder than last year's show (to what the veteran's said; I'm a rookie).

Great job to our marching band! I love you all.

We just got two of our three songs onto the field, they are decent. Today was the last day of camp.

We still have to do pregame and parade, but neither of those are til the week after the start of school.

Just finishing up music, we sound really incredible. We dropped 20 people so we are gonna go into 1A to PWN. Umm we are gonna be focusing on advanced marching basics for the froshmansss.
starting drill first day of school.

We are finally working on drill! We now have our 8 set opener set and are working on putting music with it.

I'm proud of myself! I can marktime and play at the same time!

Verbals. They help. A lot.

We beasted it up last night at band camp.

It was the second day of camp, and our goal was to learn the first five pages of drill yesterday.
We couldn't learn the first page because they copied chart 1A (which only applies to the dancers, not to the instrumentalists) instead of 1, but we did manage to learn charts 2 through 6 in like, 36 minutes -- which, when you have 350 people on the field and 100 of them have never seen a drill chart before, is seriously beast.

And that's why
we are the Brantley band, there's no one we'd rather be~.

We finished our drill in a week and three days. So we had two days left of band camp to clean. This is the best our band has done in a very long time.

Btw, anyone a competition band from PA? :]

I'm from PA, but we don't usually compete. D:
It's hard to compare, because our band focuses more on symmetry rather than actual sets. It's pretty hard to keep 230+ kids moving. XD
Our show is 11 pages long, and we finished it today after 5 days or so, although extremely roughed out.
I couldn't imagine anything past 20 pages or so. How do you guys do it?! XD
