And the battlefield is...

Ice field
The temperature of the stadium suddenly dropped several degrees (just enough so breath was visual and winter-wear is needed) as the stadium floor shifted for the upcoming battle. The floor was made of extremely slick ice, which would make manuverablity, even simply standing, difficult. Crystal-like pillars reached skyward from the frozen water, reflecting the florescent lights to all sides of the battle-field.

Once again Raina entered the stadium, Ayirwen at her side, bundled up in her thick winter parka and ski pants. "Brr... I don't know how you stand this kind of weather... it's too cold!" she muttered to her dewgong who just looked at her and seemed to laugh as her trainer's teeth chattered. Once she had reached the podium Raina pressed the button for field selection with a gloved hand and waited as the randomizer made it's decision.

When it stopped on the ice field she couldn't help but laugh. "We're having good luck lately Ayirwen, get out there and show them what you've got." she called and watched as her prized dewgong slid out onto the field and began sliding all over the place while she waited. It had been a long time since she'd been near ice.

The ice field was a nice change, in comparison with the hot fire field the pair previously fought in. With her casual sweater, Alessa didn’t suffer much from the cold. In a good mood, she waved to the other trainer, smiling, and released her Murkrow who flew directly above the battlefield. Sure, she was cold, but the woman appreciated the artistic display of lights.

Damn, ice. Beth recognized that weakness instantly. Silently, she glided between two clear ice pillars, so close of each other it might be hard for the Dewgong to go between them. Unlike her trainer, the crow didn’t show any sympathy.

Raina waved to the other trainer when she appeared and then looked down at Ayirwen. "Hey, time to get serious!" she called which brought the dewgong to a halt and turning to face her opponent. "Let's start off with aurora beam!" she called.

Hearing the first command sent Ayirwen sliding around to a good vantage point and then taking aim quickly before her opponent could escape. A rainbow hued beam of light was unleashed from the dewgong's horn and heading directly towards the flying murkrow.

Of course, that Dewgong had to start with a long-ranged attack. Alessa saw that despite Beth’s attempt to dodge, there wasn’t enough room to completely avoid the Aurora Beam. She pondered, though, how to take advantage of that particular setting. Two crystal-clear pillars, so close to each other… perhaps it could amplify sound-based attacks (having failed most of her science classes, the woman had no way to know if it was such a genius idea). Pointing at the water type, she shouted: “You should really use Screech right now, Beth!”

The bird shook off the leftover snowflakes formed on her pale wings. Why, for once, this trainer could get good ideas. Higher in the air but still between the pillars, Beth let out a horrible noise that was reverberated between the icy formations. The screech was so high a few cracks appeared at various locations on the field. Alessa had to block her ears with chilly hands.

Raina moved quickly to cover her ears as the screech reverberated across the stadium. But Ayirwen had no way to defend against the attack and shook her head angrily at the shrill noise. She waited for Raina to give her another command, trusting in her trainer's ability to choose the right attack completely.

Thinking fast Raina came up with a brilliant idea "Use Blizzard!" she called to her dewgong. If this worked out right they would do damage and make it harder for the murkrow to see Ayirwen on the field.

Okay, it’s done, now what? Alessa couldn’t come up with another idea. As she removed her hands from her ears, she recognized she had to resort to the usual strategy. More vapor came out of her mouth as she spoke: “Alright, now, Thunder Wave on that Dewgong, and try not to miss!”

Huge snowflakes were hindering both her flight and vision, and left a horrible chilly sensation in her back. However, of all the stimuli, it was Alessa’s words that made her want to headdesk the most. “Try? Don’t miss? Honey, you keep saying that like I didn’t want to hit in the first place. Use your brain. Retarded trainer” replied the annoyed Murkrow as she released electric waves into the air, hoping the Blizzard would be a nice conductor. Would it paralyze her opponent?

Raina cringed as the murkrow used an electric attack, if it hit Ayirwen they were done for. Luckily Ayirwen saw it coming and deflected the thunder wave with her horn. She shook her whole body to get rid of the tingly sensation left behind and countered immediately with ice beam.

Raina shook her head as Ayirwen reacted without a command. "Hey... you're supposed to wait you know?" she called out to her dewgong and her face flushed with embarrassment.

Luckily, this time, the crow had predicted the move. All she had to do was hiding behind one of these precious pillars. Beth knew their utility would be found before the end of the battle. Feeling the snow melting slowly on her feathers and the water slowly dripping from her wings, she emitted another electric current. Maybe the water will work better than the snow, and hit her opponent without fail.

A bit late, Alessa spoke again. “You can do it! Keep using Thunder Wave until it works, that’s the spirit!” she ordered her Pokémon as if she hadn’t already used her move. She didn’t mind Raina’s reaction, because her Pokémon taking the initiative was pretty much the usual thing.

It was a little too late when Raina realized what the murkrow was up too and she didn't have a chance to warn Ayirwen before she was hit by the electric current, luckily she had gotten up onto one of the platforms before it hit, and became paralyzed. Shaking her head she called out to her now statuesque dewgong "It's alright Ayirwen, just hang tight for a few minutes."

Ayirwen rolled her eyes, the only part of her body that she could move, at Raina's comment. Hang tight... like she could do anything else? Still, she didn't try to fight the tingling sensation that coursed through her body, she would be free again soon enough.

Seeing the success of her attack made Beth cackle madly. She landed near the Dewgong and stared at her with bright green eyes, still laughing evilly. “So nice of you! Stay still a bit longer. I can only end this faster with your help. Oh, but it is still going to take a while. You’ll only feel a p***k. Or two. Or… more.”

“Great!” congratulated Alessa, “And now, it’s Payback time!”
The human pointed at the aquatic mammal with much enthusiasm. She was certain she still had a chance of winning, despite her Murkrow having been hurt by powerful ice attacks. The sight of the last snowflakes shrinking and melting on her Pokémon’s dark feather was very encouraging.

Beth intended to use this attack from the start. Still standing near Ayirwen, she concentrated all her rage her hate on her beak, and pecked the Dewgong’s tail with the dark energy.

Ayirwen managed a glare towards her opponent as she waited for the paralysis to wear off. If only she could move she'd send that bird into next week! As the bird began her attack Ayirwen tried her hardest to slap her tail and send the bird flying across the arena but she was still tingly all over and all she could feel was a pain that seemed like it was not really affecting her, just a dull throbbing sensation.

Raina looked on with frustration showing on her face. She hated status effects... especially paralysis and sleep. Burn, Poison... those were fine, at least she could retaliate. She muttered under her breath as her beloved dewgong was pecked and neither could do a thing about it.

Alessa was foolish enough to have faith in her Murkrow, so instead of changing the tactic or telling her vocally what to do, she showed an approving thumb. Everything’s going well for now.

“Hah, did you just try to move, or was it my imagination?” mocked the crow, “Well, anyway, that one, for your information, was for that aurora beam. Two of the things I hate most: bright lights, and cold. That hurt a lot, you know. Of course, that was the point, I’m not denying that. Here is mine.”
That being said, she hopped near her right fin and pecked it cruelly as a Payback. “This one is for the Blizzard. The next one… well, the next one will be for the missed attack. That was lame. You should really learn to aim better, and faster.”Beth felt really chatty today. Forcing the enemy to listen helped a lot.
