Nothing satisfied the youth more than her new and improved body, and Gabrielle could dare say she might soon grow a tad vain if she wasn’t careful with the sin. It was nice to indulge herself every once in a while with her friends the slaves, but with adolescence came the sudden self-consciousness of her image within the pack. Sure, she only knew a few members beyond her family, but all it took was one wolf to ruin it, and her escapades with the slaves would look strange. There was Moghedien, Liriel’s worst enemy within the Reign of Terror, to check up on sometime. Mother always told her she was just an ambitious little sneak . . .
Regardless. Allowing herself a little vanity, Gabrielle prepped herself and cleansed her feathery fur meticulously within the western river, careful to dry and smooth down the more unruly tufts. Good impressions, good impressions . . . She had promised her mother revenge, and the best first step to take would be to get to know the alpha – as much as she detested nearing the goblin king for any reason. The jagged outcropping jutted out before her and, with a small toss of her head, Gabby clambered up to the top; her constant game of rock skipping was paying off with steady limb movements carrying the young wolf up without much fuss.
Before the stone den she adopted a demure pose, lowering her head and tail down as she approached. “Sir?” Gabrielle called from just within the mouth of the cave, bright voice still managing to carry as an echo.

Chernabog emerged from the black stone fortress his ruby eyes glowing with inner fire. He stretched and snarled softly under his mask before looking Gabrielle over closer. His eyes narrowed slightly, he didn't exactly find himself fond of any of Liriels offspring, not yet at least. The great king was still waiting for some sign of their worth the whelp Cassius was an interesting case. Day after day the male had gotten in his way until he allowed him to train with him, but it was more that cassius had the daylights beaten out of him everyday and kept coming back for more.
"What brings you so high little featherhead..." The words were double-edged half endearment with a grin yet half wary and insulting. He couldn't quite put his paw on it but something about the slender female put him on edge. She was pretty enough but he had seen enough great beauties who could rival her with ease. It wasn't in her sweet voice either, or even in her all too innocent eyes...but there was something there...like most feminine secrets they evaded him.

A half-nervous, half-girlish giggle escaped her at the sound of the nickname, followed by much not-so-angelic cursing within Gabrielle; keep professional! "I never much saw you before, sire," she began, warm smile still in place despite the previous belying sound. "And I know my siblings and I haven't been the most welcome things here, but I was hoping we could try to be of some use to you. I know my brother's been trying to train with you, right?" Even if "training" was loosely used. "Well, sire . . . I was hoping I could help the pack by becoming a lady."

"You are welcome, as offspring of your mother, her temperament and accomplishments are most pleasing. You wish to become a lady, that is a seat which requires a unique set of skills Gabrielle. Court ladies are unique treasures, they must possess wit and charm the ability to gain what they want without surrendering anything of themselves...and most importantly the ability to strike when they are denied what they want...strike at the appropriate targets. Have you been honing your skills young one?" He paused for a moment and glanced down at the obsidian den his eyes narrowing.
"Honing them on the slaves?" His tone was questioning, curious, had he seen her speaking with the slaves? Or was he simple asking her a question plucked from the air? His eyes remained intently focused on hers small rays on sunlight briefly glinting off metallic fangs and brightening bloodred fur. The clouds shifted briefly and the darkness made the figures against his fur seem to writhe and shift their fanged mouths moving as if more hungry then the beast who's body they shared.

"Ah, y-yes, sir." Somehow, it surprised Gabrielle that the alpha had been watching her at all, let alone when with her friends - slaves, she had to remind herself. "Mostly on Adrieal, sir, since I think Lord Clooney is more possessive about the other one one called Kerai for his own personal reasons," she went on to say with more confidence. "He whines and moans about it, but at least I'm toughening him up, right? I heard he fainted once he got into the pack for the first time and saw you." Supposedly, this was meant to be a compliment, and Gabby giggled softly at the image of the pale-faced slave growing white all over and flopping to the floor with a most dramatic sigh at the sight of their blood-painted alpha.

"Adrieal...you should keep an eye on that one...we wouldn't want any escape attempts, they might end in tragedy." As Selene's life shall once I find the hole she's buried herself in. Chernabog nodded softly at her his ruby eyes still trained on her intently.
"Indeed, he fell into quite the dead faint...Lord Clooney deserves to be possessive, he has skill in handling the slaves and brooks no disobedience. He possess all the traits appropriate for a great Lord or Lady and returned triumphant from his last assignment."

To this, Gabrielle could only nod several times. She was not too aware of the details the lords and ladies were given for their missions, and she knew better than to pry . . . at least in that regard. "I'll keep two eyes on him, sir, he shan't be so much as sleeping without me knowing where he is," the teen promised with much enthusiasm. Jailbait! Why hadn't she called the slave that? It was far too appropriate and cute-sounding. Noting to self, start showing authoratative behavior and reign the guy in. Adrieal was beginning to show attitude anyway, and that was a big no-no.
"You said ladies are unique treasures, like that silver girl called Mog, right?" Gabby went on to ask after a small pause. "I think I can prove just as useful, sir, if you just give me a chance."

Chernabog nodded softly his eyes still trained on her, she was hiding something...deep inside. It irritated him to no ends that he couldn't pin exactly what it was, and of course he had no proof...but he didn't need proof his gut had never been wrong. "You make sure to watch him closely, without getting too close..." He added with a soft warning lilt in his tone.
"Lady Moghedien" He corrected her with a soft growl in his throat. Mog was by far his favorite, though his beloved Beta Kiara was such a close second...he was irritated that Mog hadn't returned but he knew whatever keeping her had to be worthwhile. "You shall have your chance then...if you truly think yourself that capable...I shall call you for an assignment soon. We must wait for things to settle here, spend more time within the court...it is dangerous for us all if we stray and scatter too far. You must always be wary of the self righteous my little featherhead."

Again the young one bobbed her head several times in understanding, though a p***k of annoyance jabbed at her. Gabby was a tad impatient to get started on proving herself, thinking that with her parents and siblings around, as well as the slaves, brooding Lord Clooney, the lightning-dabbled warrior Sparks and her pupil, the ever snarling Valdis, the strange dark shaman, and the raven-carrier brothers were more than enough company to allow one more to leave their ranks and start training. But what did she know, after all?
"Thank you, sir," Gabrielle said, bowing and glad to not have to stare into those slits of ruby for a few moments. They were searching her for something, made the teen self-conscious. Careful, careful . . . He did say to be wary of the self-righteous after all. "I hope that time comes soon."

"Your time will come soon enough, word has traveled of a distant pack, and soon it may be time to expand outward. It will be a challenge to travel so far alone and gather tribute from a pack that may not yet have heard of us. You should train everyday for the journey." He set the goal down for her letting her in on her probable future assignment. Indeed there were packs that were months of traveling away from their own, but he was intent that all near and far should pay tribute to the Reign.
Chernabog let his gaze slowly slip over the young female as he assessed her. If she ate well and trained hard she would be fit enough to travel alone. He wondered idly if he shouldn't arrange for Kiara to give the girl a few lessons. He remembered with a smirk how well she had done with her other charge.

In truth, she hadn't thought about it. Her world had been small until this very moment, whatever her thoughts of acting as a lady might have been. To Gabrielle, other packs were within a day's travel, or as short as it took just to touch Agual Azul's borderline with them; not that anything longer would discourage her by much. Train indeed, just another game for her!
"I'll rise to the challenge, sir," she replied with another low nod, for that was all she could say in spite of her eagerness to get out of the pack and broaden her horizons, and began to step backwards with her head low - hoping to God that she would not trip up now on a rock or some other random obstruction she couldn't see. It'd mean finding someone who would officially take her in, but the choice picks weren't exactly . . . safe. Then again, Gabrielle with an inward sigh, shouldn't I be used to that by now?

"We shall see, it is not enough that you boast of your prowess, soon you must prove it. I'm sure you'll rise to the occasion though, you positively glow with ambition." His eyes narrowed on her retreating form and he remained still watching her with curiosity. All of Liriels children were of interest to him, for he had found their mother such a prize. Gabrielle though, her strange relationship with the slaves made him wonder.
He tucked the thoughts away for another place and time, there were larger matters to concern himself with. Information needed to be gathered and despite the packs success thus far he knew they would need more warriors eventually. Someday the court would be challenged, and when that challenge came Chernabog was eager to ensure that their opposition was utterly crushed.

At the compliment she flashed a warm grin and briefly lifted her head up. Whatever her own inner conflicts about war-painted alpha, a compliment was paid with a smile; it could save a life, smiling, Gabrielle thought. How, though? Well, good question. She sincerely hoped in spite of the optimistic view that the question would never have to be answered. "I promise I'll be ready!" the teen affirmed as she once more ducked her head, feeling sunlight hit her tail as she inched backwards slowly, carefully. Only when her whole body was no longer in shadow did she lower herself into a bow too majestic to be natural (too much practice, too much practice!) before - with a quick yip of "Thank you again, sir!" - Gabrielle skipped off onto the rocks below. Literally.
Being in the alpha's presence had made her feel lobotomized in a sense, inevitably leaning into answers that would put her in a good light, but if it meant it would be worth it in the end, well, she would have to put up with it.

"You are welcome little feather head...for now" His voice was a soft whisper filled with menace. He shook himself off and leapt down to head to his usual training grounds with a smirk. Maybe he would break one of her brothers bones today, just to see how the young male handled the pain.
He had to admit grudgingly that no matter how badly he had beaten that whelp black and blue and bloody Cassius kept coming back for more. He was trying to decide if the male was truly brave and stubborn, or just brain damaged. With a snort he laughed and headed off in higher spirits.
