I was staring up at my bookshelf a few minutes ago, and couldn't help thinking of all the things my precious books mean to me. I got into this topic with my mom - how books are so meaningful in my life, how no matter what the topic, you can always learn something from them whether it be what it's like to walk in someone else's shoes, historical things, school type things, interesting new ways of thinking, or a quote that helps you get through a tough time in the future. How every square inch of book on my bookshelf is its own little world, completly, or not so completly, separate from my own and all the knowledge that each of those worlds contain.

books mean a lot to me.
not only are they wonderful distractions from my own problems in life and not only do they serve as entertainment when i'm bored or serve as learning possibilities, but they are always there. i mean, they're liek friends. friends that are always there for you, friends that, if well acquainted with (or read), you can always count on [when read again].
i don't know. they mean so much to me that it's really hard to sit down and talk about it. i reallly have to think about it to execute a proper explanation.

Books are an escape from life. Entertainment in a different world where we can forget our own lives and live the adventures of someone else. But yet they also remind us of ourselves through the characters and what they go through.

"books are the best of friends. The entertain, they inform, and they don't talk back" lol. =) Love that quote. Books are more than that though. They are an escape when you're feeling trapped. They are your comfort when you feel alone. They never leave you, never argue with you, they are always there no matter how many times you read them or toss them aside, no matter how many pages you accidentally rip. They can't go anywhere and the words are always the same, a constant in a world that keeps changing.

Depends on the book...
Text Book - Means that I'm either studying for finals or I'm trying to get a grasp on a specific aspect of life that I don't quite understand.
Reference Book - Well... it's for references... obviously.
Philosophical Text - Is nice when I want to ponder the atrocities and simplicities of the world. Essentially when I'm looking to expand the horizontal dimensions of my mind.
Novels - An escape from reality of sorts, and sometimes a good place to expand the vertical depths of the philosophies I've learned. Generally speaking, they're for entertainment and something I like to get emotionally invested in.
Overall, books can mean a variety of things to me. It depends on what I'm looking to get out of the book I'm interested in. If I'm going through a stupor, then I'm probably looking for some sort of emotional upper, so I'll find a fictional story that the hero/heroine conquers serious adversities. Mainly, I look to books to expand my mental existence.
