Quietly, carefully, Alyssum followed the trio of black banded buzzers* as they flew forward, the yellow part of their bodies making them easy to spot against the bright blue of the summer sky. She had begun the chase when she discovered the little creatures bathing in the center of flowers; while she had observed this behavior before, the insects had usually taken off too quickly to be found again. Now, however, there were three of them. She'd finally get to see exactly where they went afterwards!
They left the edge of her forest home and headed south west, towards the open plain. At first, the lack of trees was slightly disconcerting, as it always was when the chocolate mare started somewhere new. All too soon, however, the adventurous mare became distracted as the flitting insects led her directly into the largest field of flowers she had ever seen. This trip... was certainly worth it!* buzzer = bee, in case it isn't totally clear

Pecan was being sneaky about this. He has snuck away from his doting mother and had found some peace and quiet time. And there was a place in which he found pleasure in hiding. It was a beautiful place, full of flowers and butterflies-things he really loved. He truly loved flowers. He loved butterflies.
He would never admit that to his huge family though. They would laugh at him. Call him stupid and pansy. He hated that thought. He lowered his head, on the opposing edge of the lovely glen, nosing some pretty blue flowers. He liked blue flowers. It was an unusual color. He liked it. He sniffed, his ears flat against his skull in his glee.
He loved flowers-damn it!

Alyssum took her time in exploring the field, allowing her eyes to fall on different colors at their whim. Soft pinks and vibrant oranges, cheerful yellow and royal purple... even the purity of white could be appreciated. This earthly rainbow dotted the prevalent green, and she nickered softly as she saw some faint blue blossoms in the distance. Of course, she took notice of the stallion who was also enjoying their beauty, noting some faint floral colors of his own. Pink and cream to complement the gray and brown that made up the rest of him. Something like tiny pink blooms coming from a strange soil.
Trotting over, she gave a friendly shout as the breeze kicked up her cream mane, "Are you enjoying the flowers too?"'

Pecan lifted his head upon hearing a lovely sound-and considering it was a pretty mare, he lifted his ears and blinked. He for one, was not hoping to see anyone out here while he enjoyed his flower time-but... he wasn't so sad that she had caught him at least. "Erm..."
He lifted his grey head and bucked a bit in his embarrassment. "Well yes... I was." He said, a small smile crawling across his muzzle. He looked down at his hoof, which was tapping the ground in a manner much like digging. "I can't help but come out here for some quiet time..." He admitted with a small sheepish grin.

Why did he look uneasy? She hadn't come off as unfriendly, at least she didn't think she had, but the way he pawed at the earth made the chocolate mare think he was upset. However, when he spoke, he showed no signs of this - a bit of shyness, perhaps, but not any kind of sadness or anger. And he was smiling. That was always a good sign.
Alyssum tilted her head, purple eyes resting steadily on the stallion. "It's not so quiet here, is it? There's the plants rustling and the buzzers flying about, at least."
Then, after a moment of thinking, she added, "Oh, and I'm making noise, of course. But I can be quiet, if you want me to."

Pecan nodded. It was very quiet and serene and even the normal hustle and bustle of bugs and such was calming.. Nothing like how hectic it was around his mother and sisters. "I suppose... but it is different-the sounds of bugs and plants are good ones. They don't argue and fight or make fun of your mane color."
He took a few steps towards her, his ears erect. "No-I like that noise-erm-your voice. It's nice. Like a butterfly or a pixie's whispering wings going by!" He said, his tail swinging side to side as he smiled. "Or like baby birds when they are calling for their parents to feed them... that sweet little 'peep peep' sound. It's like that..!" He added.

Alyssum listened to the stallion's words with confusion. Argue? Fight? Made fun of? "Do you use the flowers to escape from bullies? And why would they make fun of your hair? I don't see anything wrong with it..."
The mare stared at him when he described her voice. She knew butterflies, but what was a pixie? Whisper? Psh, she might not yell but she'd never been accused of being soft before. As for baby birds... well, she definitely didn't 'peep,' and she hadn't needed her parents to fend for her in a long while. She huffed, redirecting her view to the blue flowers as she waited for his answer. Maybe it would explain his perceptions.

((OMg I am sorry. I was waiting for you to PM with a tag and never thought to check. *fail*))
Pecan gaze down at their hooves and at the beauty that surrounded them. He lifted his pale head and gave a small head nod. "Eih, I've been teased because of the pinks in my mane... it's a girly color... I suppose..." He said, giving a shrug of his bulky shoulders. He noticed she didn't say anything about his interpretations of her voice and he sort of gave a shuffle.
He wasn't very good at talking to mares.
"Erm... but yeah. I like your voice... it's nice." He said, a small smile on his face as he shuffled his hooves amongst the flowers. "Would you mind staying with me for a bit here and keep me company?"

[OOC: I thought I had PMed you, split. I'm sorry! I'll make double sure I do this time. <3]
"Girly color," Alyssum repeated, turning her purple gaze up to examine the mane in question. She had never thought to associate color with gender, name always being more important to her than what another Soquili looked like. Yet, even now, the soft color didn't make her think of feminine things. Flowers, sure, but also sunsets and bits of quartz she had seen in her time exploring caves. She snorted, her cream mane flying as she shook her head, "I don't think it's girly. No more than the rest of you, anyway. It fits you."
Oh. That's what he had meant. The mare accepted the now-obvious compliment with her usual amount of care, "I've always kinda liked my voice too. Which is good, because it's the only one I've got."
At his question, she nodded again. Why not?

He was pretty excited that she accepted his offer and could not help but break a smile, his pale eyes showing his gratitude. He gave his head a small toss before starting to walk carefully through the flowers as to not tromp on them and ruin them. "Well thank you, I am glad someone likes it other than me!" He said, looking at the flowers with a sort of fascination.
He lifted his head as a butterfly flew past and his eyes lit up! "A pixie!" He exclaimed. For some reason all his life he had called them pixies and not butterflies. He watched it fly around for a moment before he took a few steps in haste to follow it!

The chocolate mare snorted, following her companion's carefully laid path, "Doesn't matter if anyone likes it other than you. So long as you're happy with it."
Her head snapped up at the word 'pixie,' just in time to see the stallion that had asked for her company running off! At first she didn't see the being he was chasing, but then it became clear, a yellow, floating creature made of flower petals. Was this what he was comparing her too? He was still way off, but she was always eager to investigate something new! "Hey... wait for me!"
