So I'm getting an HDTV near the end of the month! FINALLY! after 2 long years of dreaming for one and stuff I'm finally getting one.

OK so I've been able to narrow it down to three models:

Toshiba

Toshiba 32AV502U

LG

LG 32LH20

Sony

Sony KDL-32L5000

Samsung

Samsung LN32B460

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

honestly...on a 32" 720p tv, you're not gonna see that great of a contrasting difference. What i would aim for is the Sony because it has 3 hdmi inputs vs the others only having 2...could hook up a laptop/pc for the extra input

or if you wanted, just save up another 300, and get a 42" 1080p tv

My laptop would do VGA and the VGA port is for my Dreamcast.

I do have a HDMI to DVI cable that I was using for my PS3 and monitor. I was going to use it for my HD tuner that in terms of digital cables on has a DVI port. BUT when I get my 360 it will use the HDMI port.

Also 32" is the max I'm going. Mainly because

1.) That's all that will fit on the stand and surrounding area
2.) Anything bigger will look weird because of how close I'd be to it.

Oh 3 good companies and tvs.. I have a Toshiba myself but I also have a 40 or is it 42"? If your going to be closer then 5 or 6 feet from the TV, you dont want to go into the 40" range anyway.

Looking at all those, I would say either the LG or Sony 3nodding

Edit: The Sony is my prefered pick of the two

were there any panasonics that you might have thought about looking at?
or even phillips?

Is sleep mode really a make or break feature? I've been incredibly happy with my Samsung and I normally recommend those...

Out of the three you have listed, Sony would be the better option, Toshiba has a very hit-and-miss track record, and LG has been taking some questionable steps here lately.

I'd also suggest looking into Sharp.

Yeah I was looking at a Panasonic but the one they had ($499) did not meet my requirements.

It only had 2 HDMI and 1 component/composite.

If there are only 2 HDMI then I need 2 component. If there are 3 HDMI then I can live with 1.

The next Panasonic they had matched this but it was also $100 more ($599).

For me yes. I like to sleep with the TV on and having the option to just tell it to turn off after an hour is really nice. I have quite a few electronics that have this feature. My clock radio/video/picture has it and so does the PSP. I have been VERY adamant about having a sleep feature added to the PS3 for about a year.

When I first started looking at TVs I was all Samsung and wouldn't even look at the other ones. I REALLY WISH the one Samsung I was looking at meet my input requirements but it does not. Like I said I will go in store and take a look at the LN32B460. I just find it REALLY hard to believe that a 20+ year old feature that has been present in every TV I've had since Birth (maybe not the one downstairs back in the old days) is not in a $500+ HDTV in 2009.

EDIT:

IT DOES!

Mr.Samsung confirms it over at Best Buy! So I guess it is in the running! First post updated!

Hard choice, both the Samsung and Sony look good, at this point, I would say the choice would be personal preference more then anything if you limit to the Sony or Samsung.

Does anyone know if the Sony model has a game mode? All the other ones do.

My Dad's does so I'm hoping it's just one of those features that does have it.

I don't know, I am looking, found the tv at Shopper.com (a cnet site) and users give it an avg of 3.5 out of 5. One really bad rating out of all of them is what hurt it the most.

edit: I cant seem to find a site that says yay or nay im afraid.

Okay, out of those four, without a doubt the Samsung... I've had one for a while now and have been incredibly happy with it.

I'm going with the Samsung!

I was at BB today looking at them and HOLY COW it was on sale! It was in the high $400 instead of the mid to high $500. I'm going to get it tonight.

Not going to let this sale get pass me.
