Hey members of the GPL! I'm starting this League up again for another season, though I still have to process all the data from last's year's league and make minor adjustments/clarifications on rules and how the points are to be gained. This shouldn't take that long though. Finished that. Just prizes remain.
That being said, recruitment is going to be open for a while... to something like... June 25th. It should give you more than enough time to spread the word, find and dust off those DS's, get a team of people and pokemon you feel good playing alongside, and anything else you might have to do to plan for this tournament.
I'm also looking to trying to have some kind of mini tournament halfway in for all those people who found and wanted to be a part of this league, but they missed the deadline. If possible, I would like to see something that's completely different or featuring battles you don't get to have normally (say like an Ubers tournament or even something emulating one of the facilities from the battle frontier), but any kind of rules/play would work just fine. The only catch is... I'm not going to manage this other tournament. I would be more than happy to help give the person space on the front page and get all that set up so they can run everything smoothly, but if I was to try running two tournaments at the same time... I would quickly burn out. So I would like to try to get some more faces to try making a kind of tournament which could offer new experiences and battles.

It's about that time again. So far for the last 3 years we've held a Pokemon tournament where both trainers and teams are tested to see which team of players are the best of the crop. With the addition of the 2nd Gen remakes, I'm hoping to see a good turnout of new faces and old veterans alike. -------------------------------------------------------- The rules of the Wifi league will be as such:
-Anyone and everyone is allowed to join, however...
-...This is a tournament for the game of Pokemon. It is expected you have a copy of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Soul Silver, or Heart Gold and have a working connection to Nintendo Wifi in which to play. Other game simulators such as Shoddy Battle are not to be used unless both sides agree to those conditions.
-Players entering the tournament are required to have a GaiaOnline account, for means of communication and posting in the league thread.
-There will be no toleration for cheating. This means hacking pokemon through the use of an AR device to have higher than normal stats, or to have moves or abilities which are not obtainable by normal means.
-If you are caught cheating, you'll be banned from the league until next season. ----Though it's not required, it's generally a good idea to keep some kinds of record of the battle so you won't be without evidence should a case which someone is accused. Common practices of evidence are battle videos, pictures, and warstories.
-This will be a 7 round tourney. There will be one round each week until all the rounds are completed.
-The results of each round will be determined by the team's members winning 2/3 of their matches. ----In the case of a draw, the points awarded by the match are to be distributed in half. ----If one player fails to communicate with the other by the end of that week's round (and the other side can provide evidence of their communication), then that player's match will be deemed forfeit and the active side will be credited for the win ----Matches won by forfeit do not count towards one's individual wins. ----If both players fail to communicate with eachother, then that match will be deemed a draw. ----In the case of a disconnect and there was no clear winner at the time of the D/C, the match is to be played again with the same pokemon with the same lead pokemon.
-The final results of the league will be determined by the number of rounds won, with the total individual wins as a tie breaker in case of a tie. ----If the tie is not resolved, a final sudden death round will be implemented ----In this case each team captain will have to pick one of their members to face off against the other team's chosen member ----The first player to KO all the other player's pokemon wins ----In the case of a draw, the match is to be played again, with different chosen members ----The team who's player wins the sudden death match the winner of the tie.
-The battles will be Lvl 100, Singles matches using 6 pokemon
-All matches will observe the following clauses... unless both opponents agree to otherwise: -Uber clause -Species Clause -Sleep Clause -Evasion Clause -1HKO Clause -Self KO Clause -Luck Item Clause
Not sure of what these clauses are or what they mean? Read about them in the following post.
Sorry about the delay on the prizes, but I still have to figure out the prize distributions for this season. Prizes will be handed out to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams as follows... unless donations are made to increase the prize pot. wink 1st Prize: 2nd Prize: 3rd Prize:
(Current estimates are based on pledged totals of donations)
--------------------------------------- Rules and Guidelines of Wifi League Teams:
-Anyone may submit a team before the deadline for recruitment. Once the deadline is passed, the roster will be set and cannot be changed except under extenuating circumstances.
-Each team must consist of 3 players and may have 1 sub. Team names are entirely optional... but they add to the fun. Just keep them appropriate, m'kay? 3nodding
-If you want to join the league, but don't have an idea of who to join or don't want to make one yourself, I can keep a list of available players for people to contact and team up with. I need you to either PM me about it or post it in this thread so I can add you as soon as I can. ---If the league starts and there still are leftover players on the list, I'll distribute the remaining into individual teams
-There will be about a good month's worth of recruiting time to put together a team of players, the deadline being June 25, 2010 at 11:59PM PST. Match ups will be generated the following day regardless of the number of participating teams.
-Team captains may sub for a player only once a round, and are expected to do so before each Thursday of the week (cause lets be fair, waiting for a match and then subbing at the last minute is unfair to both the opponent player as well as the sub).
-If a player has been subbed, they are expected to notify their opponent as soon as possible, otherwise their match will be forfeit.
-Players are expected to report their matches to their team captains as well as either to me or in the League thread. ---------------------------------------
... however, this is just a warning of whats to come. In the next following days, I plan to open a thread on gaia in which to host this (and quite possibly bring in a wide variety of players that way, as well as recruits for the guild).
Like last season, I hope to singlehandedly try to pull this off, but I would be much happier (and pleased), if I could get some people to help me pull this off. This could mean advertising in your signature as you go on your daily tasks or to even to help moderate teams or make graphics.
See some spot or rule that needs to be added or specified? Please, by all means point it out and I'll fix it right away. biggrin

Sombra Fogata Darn, if only I played my Platinum longer. I don't have a single 100. It sounds like you haven't tried battling online yet, but the nice thing is you don't really need to have level 100 pokemon to play thanks to an auto leveling feature for Wifi play. All you really have to think about preparing for is stratagy, pokemon, and stats if you're really into that... meaning you could have a newly hatched lvl 1 bidoof and still be able to battle with it at lvl 100. biggrin This way, everyone can play or participate. 3nodding

I thought the item clause only prevented the use of specific game-turning items like focus band or quick claw. sweatdrop Perhaps I should straighten that out.
