Void grinned up to the night sky. She dared to swim closer to the surface with the shadows as her only cover, just to glance at the shining orb of the moon. She adored that ring, that shining rainbow of color that wrapped itself around the moon on bright nights like tonight. Just that single glance was enough to satisfy her and the constant thirst for those dark but vibrant colors. At least for now...

Zebulon slips through the water, the light that pierces through the water just barely highlights a few brilliant colors on his scales, otherwise leaving him all but invisible. He pauses, however, when he sees the female up close to the surface. "You shouldn't be so close to the surface, miss, its not safe..."

Void's body jerks slightly, started but trying to calm herself - sudden movements attract too much attention from predictors, even if she blends mostly with the darkness there are still those rogue scales to draw attention. Scanning the surrounding waters, it was until her second glance that she spotted the intruder, and she couldn't help but smile - those colors she loved so much from the sky made him shimmer. Pulling herself from the surface, she swished closer to him, twirling around him once to inspect his form. "You... almost glow... Where did you come from?"

Zebulon holds still while she inspects him, just the light flicker of a fin here and there, the feathers growing out along his tailfin fluffing and preening. He smiles a touch at her question, flicking a fin back towards the way he came.
"My tank is back that way. I like to take nighttime swims since it means I don't stick out quite so much. My name is Zebulon, may I ask yours, miss?"

A faint, almost undetectable blush creeps into her cheeks at his question. "Oh sir, you must excuse me for my rudeness. Of course you may, I am Void. It is a pleasure to met you." She bowed her head, but still kept her eyes up, looking him over. So curious - the night fliers, those that see her as a tasty little snack. But he seemed almost benevolent, friendly. "I've never seen one such as you before. Those feathers belong in the sky; they bring death. Forgive me for asking, but where did you come by them, why are they a part of you?"

He smiles a touch and nods, bowing his head over one of her fins, "The pleasure is all mine, Miss Void. You have beautifully colored scales, they are very fetching on you."
Her question causes him to chuckle lowly and shake his head a little. "I am of the peacock line of beta. We have these feathers as a display to attract mates and show off our beauty. I...prefer to keep to the darkness."

She allows herself a slight chuckle, "I appreciate your sentiment, but am afraid you are only trying to flatter me." She could understand how such flair would attract another beta, even with the latent fear of such things. They shimmered like nothing she had ever seen under the waters before, intriguing her, even if they were intended to function as a trap. To pull her in, just as the moon does at night, bringing her close to potential harm. She did not care there, he was far too interesting and beautiful. "The darkness suites you. As it does myself."

He smiles and shakes his head, looking at her, "Not at all. They are very beautiful and suit you very well." His head tilts a little, "I'm sorry, I'm not...making you nervous am I? I assure you, I am not a cannibal, I would never harm someone without necessity." He swims around her, one of the tailfeathers drifting along her side lightly. "Would you like to see the display?"

She shook her head softly, "I doubt you bare me any harm, thus, your feathers do not make me uncomfortable. I think your presence in general does; I rarely meet anyone outside my family. We are somewhat exclusive, and I often feel trapped, never allowed to venture out." Glancing around she could not help but smile, "Except on nights like tonight, when the darkness is almost overwhelming except for those little sparks of color provided by the moon. Its glorious." A shiver ran across her body as if hit by a static shock, the softness of his feathers startling her. Her smile only broadened at his offer, "I would be most honored to see you in full bloom."

"Ah, I'm very sorry then, my family tends to be a close bunch so I have a tendency to forget personal bubbles of space. My deepest apologies." He swims back just a little to give her more room. Eye rise towards the moon with a soft smile, "That it is. I enjoy coming out on these nights much as you do. I find that I can go unseen, unmolested better."
He nods to her acceptance, instinctively moving towards a patch where the moonlight filters through the water better, hitting the subdued sparkles of color on his scales and lighting him up in a radiance of colorful sparkles. His fins fluff out completely, tail feathers fluffing out as well, striking his pose for her, giving her his profile to best show off his understated brilliance.
"What do you think, Miss Void?"

Silent for a moment, she gazes up on him in awe of his brilliance. The moonlight fitting him perfectly; the sun would only shine to brightly, making him far too colorful for her tastes. But this, it was like gazing at a dream she, or some god granting her a wish she had never even thought to ask. He was completely stunning. "Oh sir, Mister Zebulon, words are falling aloof at me. I cannot describe it, other than that you have left me in wonder, and not just by your beauty." It was true, though his shimmering fins were of high appeal, his personal life had also peaked her interest. So few other fish had she met, and none with a close family network like her's. Well, obviously not completely like her's. Her parents cared for her and her siblings, but she always felt trapped and caged in the dark recesses of the cave they shared together. But he seemed so open and unreserved, a gracing her with a passing touch as if it were something casual. She yearned to know more, how he could possibly be so open. "What are they like, your family?"

He gives her a beatific smile and nods, letting his fins and feather return to their normal state and swimming towards her again, once more forgetting her 'personal bubble' and circling her. His fins and feathers brush against her once more, feathers light and soft whereas fins are more slick and slinky. "Thank you Miss Void, you are quite kind."
He seems to remember her being nervous and slides back a few paces, chuckling at her question. "My father is a very nice beta, very sweet man, you would like him alot. My mother has been known to have a temper but is on the whole very calm and strong. Very strong. She comes from the Krueger line, so I guess we should all be glad that she's only got a bit of a temper. Let's see....I have three siblings, two brothers and a sister. Maerlyn lives with me, he's a bit vain and pre-occupied with his markings, but if you can get him to calm down, he's very intelligent and a good converser. He's a peahen, which sounds impossible but it isn't. Shyam lives with father, he's another peacock like myself, I haven't seen him much, nor our sister. But such is the way when family lives elsewhere. What about your family?"

Shivers ran over her body as he swished past her with those simple grazing touches. She tried to convince herself it was just that she was not used to these kind of touches, but a small bit of herself knew the truth - it was partly because this male was the one doing. She closed her eyes as he drew away, taking the time to center herself again. "My parents are very much in love, they live for each other. And us, their children, of course, but sometimes I do not believe they truly see us. They do not leave our cave, preferring to stay together for fear the world will rip them apart. My mother was to inherit an entire tank system, she was like a princess to them, but she fell for my father, and they rejected her for it - just because he was a foreigner. She was banished to that cave, and they threatened that if they ever saw her again they would kill her, or him for that matter. So they stay there, and keep us there as well. My siblings have mostly left, sneaking off to see what exists outside our home, but I could never abandon them. I always found it curious that Mother told me I could choose my mate, and they would never resent me for whoever I chose, but then I am never allowed to leave..." Void dropped her head, drawing back from the other. "I apologize again, I did not intend to imbue you with my entire life story, or a genealogy lesson."

His head tilts as he watches her, this exotic and beautiful beta, trapped by her family and longing for freedom while tied to her family so closely. When she finishes speaking, he remains silent for a long moment, regarding her with an inscrutable look.
After a few minutes of this scrutiny, Zebulon moves in closer to her, one of his front fins fluttering up to touch the underside of her jaw, trying to tilt her head to look at him. His voice is soft yet deep, "Do you want to be saved, Princess? Are you waiting for a white knight to sweep you off your fins and carry you into the sunset?" His formal endearment is exactly that, an endearment that he uses just for her.

Void's pulse quickens as her mind fully dawns on what he is implying in such elegant questions. She tries to repress the smile for fear that she may have it all wrong, but she is merely mortal, and cannot restrain the slight pull at her lips. "Why sir, I am no princess, not of any proper land, and I could only ever dream one would try and whisk me away into the night. I never dared to wish that one would come." Her eyes fell, her head dropping, attempting to shield her vulnerability. So few times in her life had she met strangers, and never one like him. Finally her eyes fluttered back up to him, holding more resolve, "But not a white night, as I live for the darkness. My soul craves it, the deep shadows of color." She left one lingering question, her visage failing to conceal the hopefulness in her heart. "Will you be my savior? Will you grasp my body and mind as we steal away into the twilight... together?"
