The skies were bright blue without a single cloud in sight. Morning colors of gold and yellow began to fade to orange and pink, as the afternoon approached. The sun moved far overhead, and bathed every painter and living being in its warmth. A purple form could be seen from miles away, as it circled the skies high overhead and inbetween Sandpainter Canyon and Scrub Forest. She liked to stay close to home, with it's lush nature. Her wings were spread out wide to full length, as she swooped down toward the ground and pulled up at the last moment, being shot back into the sky. Selenium felt she'd flown enough for a while, and landed in Scrub Forest with a big smile plastered to her maw. She stetched her wings and sat lazily underneath the shade of a tree. Her eyes searched the area and watched as Dire Owls nested or chased after prey.

Sysyphus hovered gently in the air a hundred feet above the scrub forrest perching himself on a morning up draft. He got a great view of the morning sun from this position and wanted to keep his place. He saws something purple flash past him. For a couple of seconds he was perplexed and wondered to himself whether or not he'd seen this strange anomaly. He's hear of seeming bright lights in the sky but never bright purple blurs. Something on the ground caught his eye, something purple. He soon realized that his paranormal experience was in fact disappointingly normal. It was a purple avidracus sanndpainter who flew past him. He decided to observe his not so paranormal experience from his perch in the sky.

Selenium heard rustling in the branches above her head and peered up to see a dire owl roosting on the branch. It seemed content and relaxed where it was and hadn't noticed the smiling, purple dragon staring at it. Selenium turned her head and glanced up at the sky. She got the feeling of being watched. Squinting her eyes, she caught the unmistakable outline of a common painter. Black, and he had some blue. He looked like a giant bird that high above her, but if she hadn't noticed the webbed wings, she woud've taken him for nothing more than a bird. It seemed he was watching her like a scientist would an experiment. Selenium shook the feeling away and rolled over onto her back. She allowed the sun to warm her belly and chuckled, all the while she kept at least one eye on the painter. He looked all right, and didn't seem malicious or mean from what she could tell. Selenium waved one of her wings toward his direction in a greeting manner.

He saw her wave and a big grin fluttered across his face. He plunged downward to meet this new painter. He realized that he plunged a little too zelously and he needed to slow down. He flared his wings awkwardly in a desprate attempt to save his fall. He almost had come to an appropriate speed to make a somewhat graceful landing. He tried to land and as his foot touched down his claw got caught on a small rock which sent him into an awkward summersault. He landed face first into a pile of sandy dirt. He staggered up, sneezed, and tried to shake the dirt from his body. He felt embarrassed and clumsy. A great way to make an impression, he thought to himself. He looked at the purple painter and realized she was a female, if he's face had been visible under all the dirt his black cheeks would have turned a shade of maroon.

Selenium watched him with awe. He looked so energetic as he dove down through the air. Sitting up, she curled her tail around the front of her feet and fluffed the feathers of her wings. All the while, she watched him with a small smile. "Oh no, watch out . . ." Selenium's eyes went wide, as she stood up to point the rock out, but it was too late though, as he rolled into a somersault and face planted into the dirt. She hurried over to him, but kept a couple of feet in between. "Yikes, that was a bad landing," she shut her mouth there for a moment. Selenium didn't want to embarass him any more than he must've been. Pointing out the obvious wasn't helping much either. Instead, she decided to help him up. "Do you need some help?" she asked holding out a hand to him. "Are you all right?"

"No no I'm fine. I'm good. Never been better," hissed between a embarrassed grimace. He let out another sneeze and wondered how much durt he must have inhaled in the fall. "Thanks for your concern, I assure you I'm not usually this uncoordinated," he said between another sneeze. She seemed to be aware of his general discomfort with the situation. If he had landed they way he intended to it, he would have looked impressive and attractive. Now that his pride was hurt he felt like he could burst into his normal and successful flirtatious image. He was very young and had a smaller more delicate build too, which didn't give him an edge on being readily accepted. Over time he'd developed these subtle strategies to seem more appealing to his fellow paitners. "At least I'm sure you got some amusement out of that," he said with a small wink as color came back into his expression. He could makes himself out to be the adorable fool, he thought to himself. She was very pretty and there was no reason to ruin his chances by wandering off to wallow in his lost ego.

Selenium smiled and giggled, "Well as long as you're sure you're all right darlin'," she drawled on the last word and fluttered her wings. He was even more amazing up close. She thought she could see the blue before, but now it was just eye turning. Somehow it reminded her of rain, the ocean, and even lightning oddly. "I'm sure you're not uncoordinated, or else why would you fly?" Selenium blushed slightly, cacthing his wink. "Amusement? Hmm I wouldn't say there's much, but there was some," she admitted as it seemed he didn't mind. That says something about him, she thought. He holds his pride high and doesn't let anything hurt it. "So what's brings a big boy like you out to a small place like this?" Selenium asked with a small gleam in her eye.

"You know the usual. I was mostly looking for stones to added to the inlays on the inside of my, umm, cave," he knew all too well that his home didn't really constitute as a cave, "the really bright and reflective stones are best seen when the morning light just hits them. You can see the sparkle from the sky." He tried to shake more dust from his face. He was rather shocked that she seemed to be responding even though he'd made a fool of himself. He was hoping he wouldn't have to keep up his image and revert to just being himself. She seemed intrigued enough with him as is. He found her extremely alluring with her beautiful colors. He wondered if she like him, with his lankiness, small stature and all. "You know of any streams or pools of water where I might be able to wash off and look presentable?" he asked gently.

"Oh, sounds interesting. I wonder, do the stones create a rainbow of colors from the sun in the morning? It must light up your cave beautifully too," she smiled and looked up at the sky, and to the nearest cliff. "If you sit up there, you can see the land for miles. It's just high enough to see anything that sparkles in the morning sun, especially any stones," Selenium pointed with her tail in the direction of the cliff and turned back to him. Now that she'd had some time to see him up close, she found he was smaller than most male common painters. She didn't really mind though. He was creative and had an artistic air about him. It was weird she hadn't noticed this about him before. Usually she was able to catch something like that before hand, but this only interested her more. Selenium nodded in response, "There's a small strip of river that runs through here about a mile away that way," she pointed to the north and ruffled her wings. "It'll be a five minute trip if we fly and fifteen mintue walk, if we well uh walk."

"I'm thinking flying sounds the best," he said with a half smile. "hey listen after I get cleaned up. Would you like to see my cave?" He wished his tail from side to side. "First things first I need to look less like an orange sand monster." He took off into a trot and leapt into the air.

Selenium gave a simple nod in agreement, "Flying is usually the best," she stretched her wings out to full length and gave one giant flap. The wind whipped up some dust, as she joined him in the sky. "I'd love to see your cave," she said simply and giggled. "An orange sand monster huh, well I think the orange blends well with your colors," she said half serious, half jokingly. Selenium made sure her speed wasn't too fast, so she could fly by his side. Peering ahead, she could see the glimmer of the water off in the distance.

"Well orange and blue are complimentary," he said with a wink. He also saw the water. Was quite excited to see it, finally time for a wash. "You like to swim at all? I'm glad you'd like to see my home. I don't usually have visitors. It would be nice to have it not empty for once."

Selenium smiled and pulled her wings in a fraction. "Like to, I love to! The feel of the water sliding across my skin is phenomenal!" she pulled up into the sky several feet above him and circled back down to join him again. "Really? I thought you would've had plenty over to your home, it sounds so wonderful," she let her tail sway lazily in the air. The flight felt refreshing, as her feathers cut through the wind. It gave her a sense of calm and relaxing days, as she once knew.

His heart skipped when she mentioned how she liked water. He began to land, slowly loosing altitude. "Why do you think I'd have a lot of visitors?" he asked more surprised than anything else, "That's a big complement, you saying that I have a lot of friends over. It really means a lot me." He touched down gently at the river bank. In a smooth and fluid motion he dove into the river. He felt the dirt slide off of his skin. Resurfacing he asked, "Selenium, jump in!"

"Well you said you inlayed the walls of your home with stones, and I assumed that the sparkles would attract many to you. I know I'd be attracted," Selenium touched down gently to the ground, then blushed at how that sounded. She watched him dive in and noticed how graceful the move was. "Plus, you're a very interesting painter. Who wouldn't want to be your friend?" she asked with a smile, then dove in. She shot toward the bottom like a jet in the sky, before swimming back to the surface. Her head poked out of the water to look at him with a grin. "This is wonderful, I haven't had a good swim in a long time. Now that the dirts off of you, your colors are very vibrant. Beautiful," Selenium said truthfully. She wasn't afraid to say what she thought.
