Rom walked slowly outside the weyr, head tilted up and breathing deep. It was a warm, clear day and she had seen her cousin but he had disappeared again. She was worried about him since the hatching incident. Not enough to chase him down though. ‘Rish would relax and in time she would not have to chase him down like a stray calf.

She sigh, running a hand though her very short hair. She had been searched, her cousin, perhaps being a late bloomer was just in the family. She was more mature, calmer, ready for this and able to accept the disappointment if she was not chosen.

Ramaha sat down, eyes half closed and running a hand down her skirts, smoothing them out. She needed time to think.

I want to go out. We do not have Wing Practice until later and I do not feel like staying up at the heights. Down to the lake so I can be admired. Astarteth demanded. The green dragon came down from the heights, refusing to accept no for an answer.

Kallista sighed and emerged from her room. She had actually been going over the different flight patterns in case they were quizzed later. The teen liked to be prepared. Running her fingers through her hair and making sure her clothes were at least somewhat clean, she opened the door to her weyr. Outside was bright but not as humid as normal. Which was nice. Looking around, she saw Astarteth already flying down towards the lake. You go and swim. I shall be there shortly.

Astarteth snorted mentally but said nothing as she landed in the waters, splashing happily. A handful of flits appeared to help scrub her ridges.

As Kallista walked, she noticed a girl sitting down against one of the many boulders that littered near the lake. The girl was in skirts and her eyes were closed. She was obviously resting or sleeping. Common enough in Ista; Kallista made sure that she walked by the girl quietly so as not to disturb her. Just then, Astarteth bugled a welcome to her rider.

I don't understand why you want to stay in your room all the time. It is hot and dark in there. You should be out in the sun where you can get a nice color. And dress better. Daramulath's rider likes when you dress pretty. Astarteth poked at her rider.

Kallista sighed loudly, forgetting the girl. She hopped up onto another rock to watch her beast swim. Just go and have fun, you green lump.

Rom winced at the noise, eyes cracking oven into slivers to see what in shard...ahh. She shook her head, lips twitching in amusement. 'Should have known it be a dragon.'

"Good day," She called pleasantly, shifting to her feet and glanced down at the dragon. "She is a lovely color green, rider." ‘Loud to,’ she added quietly lips pressing slightly together. ‘Really shouldn’t have chosen the spot by the lake. Mmm.’ “Would you have seen my cousin? Tall fellow, coppery curls, tends to trip over his own feet.”

Kallista looked over at the sleeping girl who apparently was not sleeping. Flopped on the rock and taking advantage of the moderate sunlight mixed with clouds, the green rider only hoped that a breeze would pick up soon and make the day perfect. "Hello there. And thank you for the compliment. Don't say it too loud though. Astar already thinks she is Pern's perfect green."

Rolling to get a better look at the girl, she wondered why the stranger was by the lake if she was looking for her cousin. Maybe she wasn't looking too hard. Or she was supposed to meet him here. "No, I have not. With so many at Ista, I make it a habit to remember those I encounter."

She said I was lovely. You should talk to her, Kallista. Astarteth preened.

Hush you. If a wher complimented you, you would want me to speak to it. Kallista teased back. Continuing outloud, the green rider smiled at the girl. "Astarteth says thank you for calling her lovely."

Rom smiled at Kallista closing her eyes again with a small mix grunt sigh sound of annoyance. "If you met him you would remember him," she said dryly. He cousin was loud, energetic, and had such a smile. "If you do see him, tell his cousin was looking for him. I rather not hunt and track him down."

She stood brushing her skirts and choose a rock closer to Kallista. She was not going to hold a conversation by yelling. "Astarteth is even a lovely green." Rom said slightly amused. "I'm Ramaha, a new candidate." Her lips twitched in a wry smile. As if the weyr needed any more candidates.

"If I see said cousin, I will let him know that you are looking for him. But unless he manages to catch us at the feeding pen or when Astarteth is getting cleaned." Kallista responded in an offhanded tone. She did not actively go searching for people. It just wasn't who she was...

You should. If you tried to make friends, then maybe you could find yourself a nice mate. Or at least have someone to talk to besides me. The green dragon padded close to the shore. Her eyes were a light blue-green of happiness as she regarded the two girls. This one may do well on the Sands. I like her.

"Well, Ramaha. You have Astarteth's stamp of approval. Of course, she approves of anyone I speak to... She thinks I need to get out more." Kallista took the time to really look at the girl. Not a bad appearance, sturdy looking. She must work in one of the more physical trades. "She also thinks you will do well on the Sands. So, good luck Candidate."

"Thanks. I've been hoping to find someone who know where his room is so I can corner him there." Rom turned her attention to the green. "Mm, thank you Astarteth. I hope to have good luck, if not I might stay and see about working in the weyr perhaps as a healer for dragons."

"Mmm, if I do find my cousin I'll introduce you to him. He'll drag you about till your exhausted crumple heap and he still is this bouncing awful cheerful thing,” she said tone turning slightly fond. “I’m sure your green will be quite pleased that you met someone and got out.” She gave a slight snort, kicking off her sandals with a sigh. “How long have you been together?”
PostPosted: Sun Aug 02, 2009 7:32 pm

"We have been bonded for almost two turns now. Though it seems like my entire lifetime. I impressed just after I turned 16 turns. I got lucky and we found each other the first time I stood. Or rather, I stood there dumbly while Astarteth picked me out." Kallista chuckled. Talking about her impression always lightened her mood. She tried not to ramble but it was like a mother talking about her gifted child. The rider just could not help it.

"I do have energy but I doubt I could stand to be dragged anywhere. I run twice a day which keeps me fit," Kallista remarked thoughtfully. She mulled the girl -Ramaha's- comments. "We will need plenty of healers when Thread starts to fall. It is good to learn all you can while you are here."

She is welcome. This one reminds me of you. Except not as dull. Astarteth teased. The green moved closer to shore and settled herself. Between the cool waters and the warm sun, she was in dragon paradise. Look, what is she wearing? You never wear those type of clothes.

"She is wearing a skirt. And I can't wear clothes like that when I take care of you. It's not proper. Astarteth likes your skirts, by the way." Kallista told her companion. When others were around, it seemed rude to hold a conversation with her dragon without including them in.

So the rider was a year younger then she was, which put her and her cousin on equal footing in turns. 'Yet she is a lot more mature and sensible then Brishen ever is.' Yet, it is not surprising.

"Is it not proper? I don't own anything other then skirts," she admitted. "I think you would look nice wearing a leather split skirt. They have worked well for me when I tended to bovines and runners." 'They stain though. But not as badly as cloth when you have to work admist blood, fluids, and s**t.' Rom looked at the dragon. "Can I help you oil her sometime? If permissable?"

"Well, I wouldn't want to be cleaning Astar in a skirt for sure. It would make things...awkward." Kallista laughed merrily. She liked this girl and Astarteth approved. Another friend to tell E'rik and T'ka about! How nice things were going.

"Leather split skirt? You will have to show me sometime. Though I must admit I am comfortable in my short pants or in an old pair rolled up. I never wear anything special when I am scrubbing my green lump down." Kallista remarked offhandedly. Looking over to said green lump, she smiled to herself. It was amazing to look over from time to time as realize that Astar was indeed hers. "Of course you can! It makes the job go faster and if you are a candidate, it will give you a heads up on dragon anatomy and grooming. Plus Astarteth loves admirers."

The green moved herself closer to examine the one her rider had chosen to keep company. The girl had a feel about her. Not that Astarteth completely understood it as she had never done an official search. It is good this one is a candidate. She feels like you. Like she should ride.

Rom smiled at Kallista, eyes crinkling slightly thinking of all the ways a skirt could be awkward. She had learned that well before changing to split skirts that allowed more movement. "I will show you. Later," She paused lips pursed in thought. "Hmm, after dinner perhaps? I can let you try one on if you wish and if I can find my cousin have him adjusted it properly."

"Thank you. I wish to learn as much as I can while I am here." She smiled as the green moved closer. "Shall I meet with you..." she trailed off for Kallista to give her a time.

Kallista looked past Ramaha. Her weyr was not that far away and Astarteth was always up for a good oiling. She thought about this for a moment. Sliding down off the rock, Kallista moved to the shallows and placed a hand on her dragon's cheek. "We can oil her now if you have the time. I can see my weyr from here and move very quickly. Anytime Astarteth can have the chance to get oiled, she normally takes it."

And I will take it now! Oil me and make me all shiny. The green crooned. I will watch this one so she does not leave.

Kallista chuckled. "She said she would keep an eye on you while I get the oil. She doesn't want you to leave."

"I have time and I'm certainly not planning on going anywhere.” Rom smiled up at the green, standing up and walking down. “I think I’ll join Astarteth in the water if the lovely lady wouldn’t mind the company?” While she wasn’t frightened it would be best to get use to the dragon’s size and presence before working on oiling her.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 08, 2009 8:12 pm

She may join me and give me itches. This one appreciates how lovely I am even if you don't. Astarteth snorted at her rider. Moving a little more out of the water and onto the beach, the green studied the girl in front of her with amused eyes. Make sure you bring the sweet smelling oil.

"Bossy. Bossy. Astar says you can get close and even have the honor of scratching her. She prefers her shoulder ridges and between her eyes. Don't let her try to tell you want to do. It won't take but five minutes." Kallista looked her green over and then looked over the candidate. She knew that a dragon would never harm a human, not on purpose. But Astarteth could be mischief in disguise.

Taking off at a brisk trot, she made her way across the Bowl towards her weyr to get said supplies.

Astarteth, in the meanwhile, was continuously staring at the girl. She did not feel the urge to communicate with one who was not her rider. Not after the girl had been told what to do. How hard was it to scratch a shoulder?

Rom kicked of her sandals, bunching up her skirts as she stepped into the water. The green was more impressive in purpose. "Five minutes," she said softly, echoing the rider, reaching a hand up to scratch the green's shoulders. "I'm sure we can keep ourselves amused while your a way."

She applied a bit more pressure. "Did I reach the spot Astarteth?" She questioned, smiling as the green stared.
