The cool morning touched his paws with dew, the green grasses glittering with it. Heph patrolled as he did every morning, but this particular lap around his territory, he was not alone. Leto kept pace slightly behind him, the white, red splattered male silent and almost brooding. The alpha didn't mind the silence, and left his charge to his own thoughts.
Leaving the river, they set out at a brisk pace along the northern border, Heph's eyes roving over the distant mountain, its great bulk sitting like a white-tipped elder watching calmly over the land. The mountain always gave him a sense of peace whenever he laid eyes on it, and today was no different. Taking a deep breath of wonderfully cool air, the alpha let out a howl of joy, startling Leto."Christ, old man. What's gotten into you?" the young male asked, shaking his head and unable to hide the smile that touched his maw. His thoughts were suddenly banished, and he let them go. Better to enjoy the morning than brood it away. "Absolutely nothing, Leto. Just enjoying the day," Hephaestus said, looking back at Leto over one shoulder, his jaws parted in a grin. "Come on, let's finish this up and get back to-"
The big male stopped, so suddenly Leto barely dodged to the side to avoid colliding with him. His nose to the wind, the alpha growled softly, his instincts kicking in. There was a strange wolf in his lands, and at the moment, it didn't matter if they were friendly or not. They didn't belong here.
"So this morning isn't going to be boring after all . . . " he murmured, turning in the direction of the smell. They resumed their brisk pace, but this time, it was to head off an intruder.

Elayi trodded through the wet grasslands, feeling a bit on edge. She'd never been here before. She couldn't pick up on ay scent marking, but they might have been bore down by the rainstorm the night before. She shivered, thinking about how the lightning had scared her off of a kill. It's sent her running back to her make-shift den like a scared puppy. She'd followed a rabbit into this field, eager to fill her neglected belly. Just thinking about that fat rabbit made it growl. But no, she ignored it. She'd have her kill soon enough. At that moment, Elayi's ears perked up, her tail straight, and her leg's crouched. The rabbit was right there, thinking that it had hidden from her in the tightly-woven green plants. Still dripping with water. She licked her lips. The rabbit was so oblivious, she thought as she got nearer and nearer to it. Just close enough to sprint and then pounce. The dark femme wolf let a loud growl through her throat. The rabbit was hers! She would eat again! Feel the blood rush into her belly! Elayi stopped. That scent. Her head snapped in the direction of it. Two wolves. Male wolves. She had been wrong. There was a pack here. She'd been too preoccupied with the rabbit to notice them before they were this close. The rabbit was long gone. There went breakfast.

The scent of terrified prey animal hit his senses like a boulder, and he realized his hunger as his belly rumbled like a small thunderstorm. But the sight of the brown femme, the intruder, set his hackles to raising and he stopped before her in a stiff-legged stance, his tail and head high. His instincts as alpha had a growl in his throat, but his calm, friendly nature made him swallow it down.
"Morning . . . What brings you here, friend?" he asked lightly, his gaze friendly and welcoming, but he remained wary, watching and sniffing.

"I...there was a rabbit and I haven't eaten in a while and...the scent markings were...I didn't know..." Elayi was rambling, shifting from paw to paw nervously. His voice was calm, but his stance was wary. They were much, much bigger than her. The one that had been talking to her, the alpha (she was guessing) was huge. The other white wolf was a bit smaller, but still bigger than her. He had a scarf around his neck that had a funny smell. They were a pack, and probably had more wolves at their disposal. Elayi didn't know how many. But she would have to either run, or try and hold her own if they decided that they didnt like her. Oh, bother. She didnt mean any harm! That stupid rabbit had gotten her into this...

Heph eyed her up and down, and yes, she looked a bit like she needed a good meal. He glanced in the direction the rabbit had taken, at the grasses parted by its frantic passage.
"Do you have a home?" he questioned, head cocked to one side. The alpha felt the presence of Leto beside him, saw that the male was also sizing her up, finding her less than a threat as well."

"No," She answered simply. Even though she wanted to settle down as she was reaching her prime as a femme...it was hard to stay in one place as a loner. The white wolf, with the red stains, was sizing her up. He really didn't need to. Yes, she was good in a fight usually. But not when she was half-starved, and when the two opposing wolves were an Alpha and a very large Gamma. Elayi could be hot-headed if you got her angry, but she wasn't that stupid to take on these two. She meant no harm anyways.

The big male pondered the situation, the sound of her hungry belly pulling at his heart strings. She seemed stable, and friendly. There was no malice in her eyes, just a look of hunger and chagrin at being caught where she wasn't supposed to be. He glanced at Leto, and the white wolf nodded slightly.
"My name is Hephaestus. This is Leto. If you have no home, then you can stay here, join the pack. You won't go hungry again."

Elayi looked back up at the two wolves. Hephaestus...Leto...strange names, but her's wasn't exactly normal either. "Really?" Her ears perked, her tail stood up. They were just going to accept her? Just like that? "Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!" She rambled, jumping around and springing this way and that. Maybe these wolves weren't so scary after all... You belong...finally. She bounded toward the two wolves at full speed, forgetting herself. She was too happy and excited to actually realize that she was about to crash into both of them.

Hephaestus proved quicker than Leto and the female collided with the white wolf, sending the alpha into a roaring fit of laughter. "First Tawa catches you, now this femme. You're losing your touch, Leto."
Growling, the white wolf stuck his tongue out at his alpha and extracted himself from the tangle of limbs, annoyed at his suddenly dirty fur. Dirt! Always with the dirt! "Quiet, old man. I still run faster then you," he murmured, licking the dirt spots from his pristine white fur.
"So, little one. What is your name?" the alpha questioned, tail wagging.

Her name? Her name...oh yes! That thing! "Elayi...and I'm not that little! I'm three years old," She huffed, watching Leto intently. He was licking his fur almost obsessively. "I'm sorry, I was just so excited," She apologized, bowing her head a bit. This wolf was a bit strange, she concluded, fur isn't that important...is it? The brown femme, sat down on her haunches, tail wagging and tongue lolling out of her mouth. This was so exciting!

Hephaestus laughed again at her apology. "Pay him no mind, he'll get over it," he said with a grin, ignoring Leto's scathing glare. Then he turned to the wolfess and dipped his head a bit, but he still stood tall, tail held high. The posture of an alpha came natural to him. He was a wolf that bowed to no one.
"Welcome to Acropolis, Elayi."
