This is a private RP thread between Shiromaru and Prolixity. Please do not post unless you are Shiro, Prolixity or one of their mules.
The Japanese-style gardens were expansive and lush and well-kept, and Shiromaru tended to wander through them at his leisure. Etain, too, loved the gardens, and often was flittering about trying to reach branches a foot or two above her head. The demon watched her, indulgently, keeping a hand nearby in case Etain started to falter in the air.

Efios wandered up from the waterside into the garden, hooves clopping irregularly over stone and earth and pathway, the steady tap of the butt of his staff on the ground accompanying the sound. It was a lovely garden, and he had no idea who it might belong to - he had seen no signs or fences that indicated "keep out," and it was an extensive, well-kept place - perhaps a public garden? But it seemed too tucked away for that.
It was beautiful, nonetheless, and his curiosity kept him going, meandering around corners and over bridges. Perhaps the owner of this lovely, peaceful place wouldn't mind his solitary intrusion.

The bright color of red and the sound of hooves made Shiro look up, and he slipped Etain onto his shoulders as he wandered off towards the sound. "Hello...?"

Efi looked up from his study of a small bloom near the edge of the path to see a long-haired man and a young winged girl regarding him curiously. He dipped a quick bow, and replied, "Hello. I hope I'm not intruding - are you the owners of this beautiful garden?"

Shiromaru smiled brightly, sweeping a hand towards a set of benches over by a water fountain. "I am. I'm Shiromaru."
The little sylph on his shoulders ducked shyly, trying to hide completely behind her father's head, but it didn't work too well, and a set of silver eyes peered up from over Shiromaru's hair. "And this is Etain," Shiro added, glancing upwards.

Efi bowed a little more deeply. "I am Efios, of the Zephyr clan," he intorduced himself. "I hope you don't mind," he added, with a less formal tone in his voice. "I just wandered in."
He gave the shy little girl a bright and gentle smile, meeting the silver eyes with blue. "Hi," he said directly to her. "I don't bite, I promise."

"It's not a problem at all!" Shiro informed Efios quickly. "I love having company over, even unexpected guests. You're free to come over anytime."
"Papa," Etain whispered, wide-eyed as she tugged at one of Shiro's pointed ears. "The horsie talks."
Shiromaru choked slightly, then shot Efios a grin before sitting down. "Sweedling, that's not a horsie. Say hello to Efios now."
Etain looked up at Efios again, looked up a bit more. "Hello, Mister Efios..."

"I appreciate that," Efi nodded. "I love gardens, but I only have space for a few flowerpots of my own. It's a small apartment." He sat down, flicking his long mane out of the way with the ease of long practice, and resting his staff against the arm of the bench.
"A pleasure, Lady Etain," he answered gravely. "I am a Yuniko, not quitea horsie," he smiled.

"Yuniko. Yuuuniko," Etain breathed, sounding the word out and feeling it in her mouth. "Yuniko. Mister Efios Yuniko." The sylph beamed, her shyness starting to melt away, and she hopped down off of Shiro's shoulders, fluttering down to the ground under the demon's watchful eye. Once she was settled, she made her way over to Efios, looking up at him somberly.

Efi leaned over a little and rested his elbows on his knees so he'd be closer to the child's eye level. "Absolutely correct - you must be a very smart person," he said seriously. He flicked a quick smile at Shiro, silently checking with him; Efi was still mostly a stranger, if a friendly one, and he wanted to be sure that neither of them felt uncomfortable around him.

Shiromaru nodded slightly to Efios, offering a faint smile in return.
Etain blushed and ducked her head, shifting a bit so she could taptaptap a toe against the ground. She couldn't quite meet Efios' eyes, but she did spot his tail and slipped over to it, reaching out slowly towards it.
"Etain! What do you say?"
"Could I see your tail, Mister Efios Yuniko?" Etain asked shyly.

Efi smiled and lifted his tailtip so that Etain could handle the silky tuft on the end. "You don't have to call me mister," he said. "Just Efios is fine." She was a sweet child, and he had already decided he quite liked her. It had been some time since he had seen the younger cousins in his family, and he'd missed it.

Etain nodded solemnly, then flopped straight on the ground at Efios' feet and started to pet the soft fur of the yuniko's tail. At the feel of it, her face lit up and she beamed up at him. "Soft!"

"I brush it a lot," Efi nodded, smiling. "I like to be soft. It takes a while, but it's worth it." He wriggled his tail a bit in her grasp, playfully tickling her palms with the soft fur.

Giggling happily, Etain started to braid Efios' tailfur, her tiny, clumsy fingers working very slowly and carefully. "Could I brush it sometime?" she asked after a moment, looking up at Efios with wide eyes.
