The subtle sound of hooves crunching on the forest floor could be heard in the early morning hours. It was Jiyuu's turn to run patrol for a bit, and he was currently exploring around the perimeter of the territory that his family kept, looking out for any hints of danger. So far he hadn't seen anything, but in the orange glow of the sunrise he had caught a glimpse of some small unfamiliar footprints on the forest floor. Curious as to what manner of creature could have made these, the winged stallion was following the trail, still careful to keep a lookout in the mean time.

A Norora scurried silently through the unfamiliar patch of forest, looking for a decent bite to eat. Being fairly young still and not very patient at that, it often took the little reptile two or three times before he could successfully catch himself a meal.
Pausing behind some bushes, the Norora peeked through to spot a small furry nibbling on some fruit. His pupils dilated in pleased anticipation. Mm... Food... Creeping just the slightest bit closer, he waited for the opportune moment before pouncing on his prey.
Success! Small furry caught securely in his jaws, the reptile began the delicious process of rendering flesh from bone. It wasn't until the Kirin was practically atop of him that he noticed the much larger creature's approach.

Jiyuu watched the creature feed with some interest. Whatever it was, it was obviously carnivorous. In a small way it sort of reminded him of an overgrown lizard, but not quite. As soon as it noticed him however, it held onto it's prey with it's hands and turned to face him with a hiss, as if to say 'Mine! Stay back!'. The stallion however ignored the warning hiss and drew a bit closer, his curiosity getting the better of him. "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you," he said with an amused smile. "Or take your food for that matter."

The small saurian narrowed his eyes at the other suspiciously, but, his hunger getting the better of him, decided to take another bite of food. When it seemed as if the larger creature wasn't going to intervene, he continued on with his meal as before, casting an odd glance at the other occassionally.
After he had finished off the furry, he set down the remainders on the ground and stood to his full height to assess the other. Wanting to observe the large creature from every angle, he ran around it a couple of times, looking at it from every which direction. Finally satisfied with whatever conclusion he had come to, the Norora stopped circling the Airin and began licking his claws clean instead.

Whatever it was, it certainly was an amusing little creature. And quite fast at that. Watching as the reptile darted around him, Jiyuu couldn't help but noticed how similar the creature looked to himself. Color-wise anyway. The thought struck him that the reptile would make for an interesting companion. "Say, how would you like to come with me, little fella?"
The Norora looked back up at him with a calculating gaze before giving a tiny nod. It couldn't hurt having something so big around when there were other predators much larger than himself in the woods.
"Excellent!" Jiyuu replied cheerily. "Well then, you'll be needing a name. Hmm... How about... Bouken?"
He tossed the name over momentarily in his mind before giving a pleased trill. It had a nice ring to it.
"Alright then, Bouken, you can help me finish my patrol before we return home to the family," he said, wings ruffling contently on his back. "I'm certain you have a much better nose for predators than I do." With that the two set off to search out the rest of the territory.
