Making this thread cause I have to go to work soon... and I hate it ^_^ I work at Marshalls by the way.

Discuss;
-Having Jobs
-Wear you work
-Stupid, stupid customers.
-Working 5 Friday nights in a row, like you have no social life [Sorry.. just some venting razz ]

Please don't say stupid things like, "I don't need to work. My parents buy me everything."

[Hmm...well, I can't go into too much detail about my place of work. Someone might recognize me and scream that I was "disclosing trade secrets." rolleyes xd <---highly unlikely. xd Anyway, I work indirectly for a ******** HUGE and well-known department store company. If it weren't for Wal-Mart, this company might be considered a monopoly. But anyway...at least we don't have to wear dumb uniforms or look at customers. Mwaha. mrgreen My co-workers can be as pink-haired, pierced up, goth-looking as they wanna be. biggrin

...Ugh...customers...I don't have to look at them..but I do have to listen to them. Stupid as ********. I hope I never sound that stupid, insensitive, rude, sarcastic, etc., when I call tech support or customer service. I can barely stand it.

...BUT, there are some nice, sweet people who call, and they make my day. Especially the funny ones. biggrin

Yay for venting. I always work Fridays, but I get off early enough to still be able to make an evening out of it. And Saturdays. And I'm off Sunday--that's my in-case-of-a-hangover day; my emergency day I can use for all sorts of stuff (as long as they aren't banking related). Don't hate. It took me a long time to mold my work schedule into something I like. lol ]

I don't have a job, and have never had to get one. As long as my grades in school are good, I don't have to worry about anything.

I'm trying to get one, though.

[I never had to worry much about working either...but I chose to get a job when I was 16 and have been working since. Sometimes it's a fun experience because you get to meet new people and make new friends; plus the "earning your own money" thing is pretty damn great. I could never go back to letting my parents pay for everything. I'd never feel like anything was mine, you know; like I got it on my own. That's important to me.]

I wish, I could work to help out my family.
I don't know where they would hire a fifteen year old...but I need to start looking.
Do you guys think it would help if I did volunteer work first?

[It would help you to understand what's expected of you at a job. I did volunteer work (was forced to) before I got a job. Back then I didn't think it helped, but now that I look back, sure, it helped. As an added bonus, not only does volunteer work help you learn the value and sometimes stress of hard work, but it also shows your parents, who sometimes would rather you let them support you forever, that you are responsible enough to go out away from home and school and use your time productively in an effort to serve or help others. (It shows future employers that too. 3nodding ) I think there are a handful of jobs out there that 15 year olds can get, but they come with a lot of restrictions (no handling liquor; gotta clock out before a certain time; can't do certain other things; and those pesky work permits in some states). Try applying first at the places you'd love to work; seek out places where you see other kids working. 3nodding ]

[To everyone who works in retail: How was your Day-After-Thanksgiving?
I had to work, (granted, I work behind the scenes), and it was relatively slow. It was no crazier than usual, and I only had one ignorant....no, make that ig'nant lady who disgraces the human race. I think I made out well. Mom works all up in "the scene" on the other hand, and she says it was crazy inside the store, especially at 6am. Hundreds of people waiting in "food stamp lines." Mwaha~! xd

...Ahem...I doubt any of you youngsters know what I mean when I say "food stamp line" though... sweatdrop ]

i, too, have one of those jobs that i can't really give specifics. let's just say a bunch of rich folks (usually spoiled, but not all of them) want stuff, and we get it, if it's available at all.

this usually means, since the company says that we can do anything, that our customers give us requests for stuff you just can't get - example?

that whole xbox 360 thing. people couldn't get them online or through the stores the day of, so they called us, like we had a stockpile of them in the utility closet or something.

dumb-asses.

@ Passion_Dragon: i didn't work the day after, but i'm afraid to go back in on Sunday. i just know there will be at least 85 calls for something we can't get, which means about 115 customer complaints (believe me, it does come out equal, at least the way they see it).

and i totally get the 'food stamp line' lol!

[Damn, I couldn't imagine doing that. That's like a personal shopper. I wouldn't be able to take it...unless of course, I would benefit by being able to get those things for myself too.

Ouch...I feel you as far as dreading the calls the next day you work. I get that all the time. We just changed the rules for our customers and the s**t's about to hit the fan in December. gonk

LOL I didn't think any of these youngin's got it. lol Eep! A kindred spirit~!! biggrin ]

hee hee! yeah, i'm sure a lot of them don't... i sorta feel old, but in a good way xd

that's almost exactly what i do - except we do more, like tickets, dinner reservations (which sucks almost as much as tickets), and we do this worldwide, so we get the calls from everywhere.
people seem to really think that we actually have tickets on our desks or something, or that we can just build them a table at a restaurant that's full. i won't even get into the worst call (not easily fulfilled, total attitude from the customer about it), but if you want, i can PM you the weirdest one! let's just say it involved being passed out in the restroom, and a flight to Las Vegas...
