For Allende to say that the events of the last Hatching didn't affect her would be like saying the sun was obviously irrelevant to life. She was not, however, running around the Weyr in a eternal state of depression. People and animals died, and sometimes they really meant something to you, but to let a tragedy perpetuate itself with continual moping was just not something the holdergirl from Lemos could tolerate. She would work, instead. Working long hours and studying from those scrolls she had borrowed would keep her awake long into the night, and allow her to fall fast asleep where that last scream couldn't reach her...
Shardit and she would work EXTRA HARD to make sure she never witnessed something like that again!
This evening wasn't all that different from other nights, aside from the fact that she had dining hall duty for an entire shift. All in all, it wasn't a bad shift to have, dinner was over, and barring a few layabouts, riders, and some folks gathered in the back around a game of Faranth knew what, she had little work to do aside from helping to clean up and direct any complainers that showed up to the assistant cook on duty.
Which, fortunately, was not Bianne this evening. That giant thorn in her side was responsible for the overnight and early morning shift, which made all the sense in the world. Bianne would never let anyone do ANYTHING wrong while she was on duty, and everyone knew something had been going on to further the torment of living in this overcrowded Weyr recently. Honestly, Alle wasn't entirely sure what she thought of that, half of her applauded the efforts of someone at least trying something, but she had grown up with a strong set of ethics, and when it came to work... those ethics were set in stone.
Whatever the case, Alle looked about with a practiced eye, looking for anything she might have missed. Nothing at the moment, and that game in the back looked harmless enough to watch until she was needed again, even if it seemed like it might be wrapping up.

The game had indeed wrapped up, and Avery paid those that needed to be paid, as well as taking her earnings. Stones were traded for marks, cards were sorted, and everything was neatly packed away by gloved hands. Working quietly for a moment or two as everyone began to take their leave [some leaving dishes as lazy candidates were wont to do], the curly-haired young woman looked up, studying the kitchen-worker before her.
She'd seen the girl often enough, and well, so tall and with that hair, it was easy to remember her.
"Allende, right?" A warm, slow smile and she continue to put things in a small bag. "You're always here, working." She shook her head, as if exasperated. "It's nice to see, with all these Candidates here, wasting their marks." She ran the games, yes, but she wasn't adverse to hardwork, herself. "You remind me of a friend, K'lan."
Speaking of Kesslan... Avery frowned, obviously not minding chatting away at the poor Candidate. "It must be getting harder for you. What with all the sabotage..."

She had to admit that she was impressed with the exchange of coin, she had little of it herself since the stipend she received as a candidate was mostly just enough to replace things. She could not, however, suppress the slight twist of her features into a frown at the wanton laziness of some individuals. No wonder she always had dishes to pick up after dinner! Even with the rule that candidates and workers cleaned up after themselves, here was evidence that some people just couldn't be helped.
Likewise, she was glaring at the retreating backs of the offenders when Avery addressed her. Turning back, she nodded in confirmation of her name, but wasn't entirely certain of how to reply to the almost compliment when Avery supplied her with a ready thread of conversation...
"Sabotage you say?" Her eyes hardened slightly, and she crossed her arms across her chest angrily. "There should be a nastier word to describe it, and 'harder' barely touches the top of the bucket." She continued, studying the curly-haired girl carefully as she chose her next words. "Truly, I'm happy someone somewhere has taken notice that this crowding cannot last... but I do wish they would make their point in a place other then on the already aching backs of the people who do work."

Avery was quiet a moment, as if mulling something over in her mind, considering, and she nodded slowly, as if in agreement. Finally packed, she began to gather some of the dishes together, helping Allende as she spoke, her tone not loud, nor quiet, without shame.
"You're right about that. The ILA is helping no one by making things worse for everyone." Stacking the dishes, she smiled slightly. "My friend, perhaps you know her, K'lan, she impressed the last green on the sands this past hatching, has been organizing a group supporting the advocation of a new weyr."
A smooth shrug. "Because as you can't fail to notice, we're way too crowded. We didn't want to sign up with the ILA because of their methods. I personally think hard work and diplomacy is the way to get what we want, not burning food and making life difficult."
Chuckling quietly, Avery belted her bag to her hip before picked up the dishes. "Right now we're just getting the word out, you know? That you don't have to resort to underhanded methods to promote change."
