The bright sunlight filtered down through the leaves, making bright patterns on the large cub's red fur. Kupa giggled softly as he rolled onto his back to paw at the beams of light. Unlike his sisters , who were getting lessons already in roles they would fill as adults, the bright little male was left to play with leaves and be silly.
Flopping on his side, he thudded a heavy paw down onto a flower letting his little mind wander. He knew he was something special, his mother had told him so. He was larger than all his sisters, that wasn't good, but apparently his bright coat was...though he had no idea why.
Huffing, he let the thoughts roll away, they were too heavy for such a pretty day. Wiggling around onto his back to squirm in the dust, he suddenly blinked hearing paws hitting the ground. Someone was coming!

Kohaku, on the other hand, was chasing a bug. He had been told that his family was all in the Tarka clan. Though, he didn't care who was or wasn't in his family. At least not yet. He was the only son, having 3 sisters wasn't easy. 2 of which were already grown up. No matter, he was starting to learn about the pride as he went and watched. Though, for now, all he cared about was playing with this bug that seemed to be able to fly.
It was so pretty, yet he didn't want to hurt it, but just catch it. It's brightly colored wings seemed like powder, though he had no clue what it was called. As it flew every time he tried to pounce on it, he'd let out a giggle. His dark purple fur made his orange stand out much more then it would if he orange with dark purple markings.
Kohaku also didn't find himself very special. In fact, he felt very ordinary and out of place in his family. He was told that males never live with females and when he was old enough he'd be living with the other males. Kohaku couldn't wait for that. He was too interested into the bug that he didn't see the red, white, black, and yellow male not far away.

A huge smile broke over Kupa's face as he lept to his feet. Oh this was great! He hadn't meet anyone outside of his family and while he would like to meet some other little girl cubs, cause they couldn't all be like his sisters, he was just as delighted to meet another little boy. He all but galloped towards Kohaku, skidding to a stop a few feet away.
He noticed, almost as an off thought, how much smaller the other male was but it was quickly forgotten in his excitement. "Hi! I am Kupa, what's your name?"
His manner was certainly very friendly and open, his smile almost infectious. His tail wagged the air behind him, almost like a canine in his happiness. Here was his chance to make a new friend! A friend that was like him, not a girl but still a friend!

Kohaku was smaller then the now male in front of him. He beamed at him as he lashed his tail twice before making it hold still. "I'm Kohaku. It means fish" He said trying to remember what exactly it meant.... Though His mother told him it was a fish name. Kohaku was small, even for a male of this pride, but not that much smaller.
Kohaku didn't know anything but friendly manners. He had yet to meet anyone rude. His older sister kind of shrugged him off and never really said a word to him, but he thought that was because she didn't know how to deal with little kids. No matter, that wasn't important to him. "What are you doing here? Do you life in this clan?" He asked. He knew if he did, he was most likely related to him.

Kupa blinked at him, his name had a meaning? It was just a name, something momma called him when she wanted him. He frowned trying to think if momma had ever said that his name had meaning but couldn't recall.
His attention was drawn back to the little male in front of him by his questions. "I was playing of course. Momma and the girls are being big and strong protectors. She is teaching them about what they are gonna be when they get big. So I was playing with that leaf but it got away and then I saw you and thought I could play with you!"
He crouched down, his back end and tail wiggling in the air as he prepared to pounce on the other boy.

"My mom said that we don't have to do that until we are older. See, me and you will be sent to another part of the land with all the other boys." He told the other with a nod. "but she said that was far off." He smiled at the other with a nod. He couldn't wait! Though, he knew that could change when he got there. He'd miss his mother and his sisters. He wasn't sure if they'd miss him though. Did it matter? He shrugged and didn't think about it.
"My your big." He said looking at the other now realizing he was bigger then him. "My mom says that all males are smaller then females in this place, but you might be the same size as them!" he said giggling.

Kupa eyed him oddly at his words. How stupid. Momma would never send him away, her and the girls needed him since their daddy didn't care. Nana needed him too. He was their protector and loved them with all his little heart. Maybe this little male's mother just didn't love him like momma loved Kupa...
"I am bigger than all of my sisters."
He shrugged since this was just a fact of life for him. It made him the perfect playmate for his sister's willing to be the brute force for their brains.

From what Kohaku knew, it was the other way around. The females were his protectors, and the pride thrived on them alone. He'd get to be lazy and not do much at all when he was older. At the moment, he thought that a fine deal. He wasn't much of a fighter anyways. Being very small that was, and being not as strong as he thought he should be. Then again, he was still a cub. He laughed. "I'm smaller then my sisters." He said with a nod.
He didn't care though. To him, he was suppose to be small. Or that's what his mother had told him. "But momma says I'm suppose to be small." He told the other "She says all females are bigger then the males." Though clearly wasn't the case with this male in front of him.

Kupa's smile came more easily this time as he looked at the smaller male. Well he -was- smaller, so maybe he wasn't as brave as Kupa. "My brothers are all smaller too, I am just the odd one. " He didn't mind being different though.
"Momma says I was born bigger because I have a big heart and would need a big body to go with it. I think momma is kinda silly."
His lavender eyes wandered around now, getting distracted by all the things moving about in the bushes, by the light through the tress, even by the wind stirring the leaves on the ground.
"Maybe I will see you again someday?"

Kohaku didn't really know what odd meant. It was another word to add to his list to ask someone, he didn't want to ask Kupa, for he didn't want to look stupid. He shrugged as if it didn't matter who was odd or not. Whatever it meant. "I have a big heart....." He thought anyways... He wasn't sure. "Momma just says I'm suppose to be small like this"
"Are you leaving?" He asked stupidly... He wasn't sure what the other was talking about seeing him again some day.... THEY did live in the same clan, so it was only natural they'd see each other again... Plus they'd be moving to another clan once they were older... Just for boys.

Kupa smiled at the purple little male. "I am sure you have a big heart too. We have too so we can love and take care of our mommas and sisters. " He purred softly thinking about his family. "Nana says that females are the strength of the pride, but we males are the heart."
His lilac eyes were gentle as he looked back at his new little friend. "Yeah I have to go, momma needs me right now. But I will see you again Kohaku! We will be friends!"

They had just met, He didn't know why the other had to leave. He let a frown hit his face. Oh well, he didn't understand alot of things. His mother also told him that his sister and she would take care of him. Since males weren't as strong as females in this pride. He continued to have a sad frown upon his face but waved a paw to the other. It was as if they had just started to get to know each other, and the other was now having to leave. How lame was that.
