This morning had been a mess. More than the normal mess, of course.

There were small images playing in Uuni's mind now, and she was strangely upset to find the bed empty except for herself. For a long while, she'd stared at the wall. Both her roommates had still been asleep; it had been early.

Dreams were funny, ridiculous things and it was rare if ever that they showed blood. For her, this was probably a bonus, but the fact that last nights had lacked any upset her. Her mouth had tasted dry and full of cotton before she'd filled her belly with food and found her mind wandering over Avery.

Most of her feelings were loathing, but there was also a strange need to see her again. She had to apologize for something, and she didn't know what. But she had to apologize. It was wrong to mislead her, but then, she hadn't. She very much remembered Avery being the instigator, so why did she feel so ********>. She hated dreams.

She was on lunchbreak now, and she wasn't at all hungry. Instead, she wandered off outside. Usually her wandering had one purpose and one purpose alone, but not today.

That was, until she caught sigh of Avery and paused. Great. Exactly who she didn't want to see.

So, why was she walking her way over to a rock to watch her swim? Okay, so maybe it was for the view. Avery did have nice curves, and she could enjoy a little right? But it was the girl's face she found her eyes wandering, and not her a** or chest.

Uuni had about ten minutes of uninterrupted watching, Avery's strong, tan body cutting through the water quite easily. She liked working out, and she loved the contrast of cool water and hot sun. Soon, though, she was walking from the water, not bothering to dry off in her breast-band and bottoms and letting the sun do its job.

Shaking water from her curls, Avery grinned at the view. A gorgeous day like this meant that plenty would be willing to play a game or two at dinner that night. Her grin didn't falter in the slightest as it caught on Uuni, in fact, rather than avoiding the girl, she sauntered over, raising her brows.

"What's wrong with you, love? Such a dark scowl on such a pretty face! For shame."

Had she been scowling? Shaking her head free of thoughts, she relaxed her jaw and the rest of her features followed.

Wait, why was she listening to this girl? Her brows furrowed once more before her expression turned slightly amused as she put her hands back to lean her weight over the center of her palms.

"I was thinking, actually. It's a nice passtime, you should try it." Oh, Uuni, that was mean. And she felt guilty for that, too.

Ugh, what was with the guilt today! The scowl returned in light of her frustration.

Avery's laugh wasn't dampened at all by Uuni's grumpy disposition and she took a seat beside the older woman, letting a hand trail through her dark hair. Hazel eyes closed briefly as she took a deep, slow inhale and she didn't seem at all self-conscious.

"Is it? I prefer to leave my thinking at the tables." A lie, of course. Avery was always, always thinking. "Don't be silly, love, you obviously don't find it very pleasant, whatever it is that you're considering."

A knowing smile and she reached over to pat Uuni's leg. "So leave it and move on. What're you doing out here, anyway? I'd always heard girls like you didn't rise before sundown anyway. Apparently just a myth.

Her eyes wandered after Avery until she sat down and a tickle worked its way down her spine. There was some sort of retort in her mind that she forgot as she moved closer so Avery's fingers slipped deeper to her scalp. Okay, so this she could deal with.

Her eyes opened finally at the pat at her leg. What had Avery been saying? Eh, who really cared?

Leave what and move on? Oh, whatever. Next question.

"Girls like me still have chores to do." The corner of her lips curled a little.

"So, you're not actually mad at me, huh?" She quirked a brow, watching the girl carefully.

"Mad at you?"

What a strange, strange girl. Sure, Avery'd suffered momentary irritation [along with not really wanting Kess and Uuni around each other], but no anger. Grinning, she shook her head, not letting any confusion show on her face as she let her fingers sink in thick hair for a moment longer before drawing away.

"Uuni," A slight crease of her brow as she seemed to try to pinpoint something. "What is that?" It was, mainly, pure curiosity. Avery was a fan of the material, and well, the older candidate smelled good.

As if to further illustrate, the brunette leaned in, taking another breath just behind Uuni's ear. "I like it."

Uuni shook her head. What a stupid question to ask. It was better to drop it. She didn't have a reasoning behind silly fears that she should have cast away long ago.

"Hmm?" she asked, clearly not quite paying attention. The fingers through her hair was making it very difficult to think properly, and she was thankful, sort of, when Avery pulled away.

She grinned when she finally figured out what Avery was pointing at. "Really? Something I picked up because. . . " Because what? There was an end to the sentence she didn't have.

Leaning back as the breath hit behind her ear, she turned her head just enough to catch Avery's lips for just a second. "If you stop teasing, maybe I'll tell you." And maybe the kiss was too sensual. It lacked any of the rough passion of normal; it wasn't meant for Avery at all, in fact.

What was that?

Avery blinked, pausing after that sudden, casual kiss. One that spoke of emotion and trust, rather than sexual attraction. Shards, it was nearly loving. Despite what others may have thought, the beastcrafter was never cruel, nor did she like to embarrass others.

Tone light, playful, she kissed that spot behind Uuni's ear, pulling away again. "Hey now, you might make me think you don't loathe me." Sliding from the rock, she padded over to her clothing, tugging a pair of well-tailored, form-fitting trousers and a bold, deep red top.

"It's nice." The scent, she reasserted.

While Avery was busy being surprised, Uuni was busy tackling a very similar emotion: confusion. That was not how the kiss should have been. At all.

It left her aggravated, as though this were her fault as much as Avery's. Luckily, that small phrase from the girl was enough to reassert her previous, more normal mental processes.

"As if," she answered with a laugh. "You'd have to do a lot more than compliment how I smell before I started getting fond." Actually, if she wanted to sit down and run her fingers through Uuni's hair all lunch, she might gain a few points.

And because she was now confused, and upset over the fact that things weren't making sense, she added, "You know what you remind me of? The moon. It's always shining when you're trying to sleep, and never quite bright enough when you go for a walk so you trip and end up on your face." And she really hated the moon.

There. That would clear it all right up.

"Mmn, and yet, you find her beautiful and she pulls at you in a way you cannot hope to comprehend."

Avery seemed unphased by Uuni's attempt at an insult [perhaps it was that strange kiss, keeping her a bit out of touch with reality, or the good weather] and pulled on a pair of knee-high boots as well as a pair of leather gloves as she parried the older woman's comments.

"I could definitely do a lot more than just compliment you." A slow smile and the bet-taker reached out with a gloved hand to Uuni. "Walk with me."

Her? The moon had a gender now?

"Hah, maybe you're something else. Hot, pretty, sexy, but beautiful isn't it." Her tone was not sharp; if anything it was a bemused sort of purr.

And the moon wasn't beautiful. Maybe it pulled at her, but it was in a way that scared her. There was nothing poetic about that. It was simply sickening.

At the sight of the girl extending her hand, however, Uuni froze. Her eyes lingered on the girl's gloved fingers for a while before she turned them up to meet her gaze. She wanted to take her hand, and so she took the step forwards and laced their fingers; it was unsure and like a child.

But again, it felt absolutely wrong. "Stop," Uuni said for a moment, the aggravation clear in her voice. She took the girl's glove off and then replaced their hands once more. It had been a long time since she felt so uncomfortable, and even the fact that there was bare skin instead of emotionless cloth wasn't helping.

She felt like screaming. One part of her wanted to yell and b***h and throw witty, half-tried insults at the girl before dragging her off into a dark room. The other? It wanted to curl up next to her in some bed and whisper soft nothings. Both sides were telling her that everything about this situation was wrong. The nicer side was telling her to fix it, and so it won.

"Do you always ask for the hands of people you barely know?" Her gut shifted as she asked the question. It would be better to leave now.

Calmly, as if there was nothing odd occurring, Avery removed her other glove as well, tucking the two into her belt as if she customarily kept them there.

"No, I suppose I'm not." Beautiful, that was. It was true, something about her exotic features stopped her from being considered typically beautiful. Of course, some would find her that way, perhaps when she was older and had grown fully into herself. Now, though, she was a whole mix of things that weren't gorgeous. A strange sort of smile and she led Uuni closer to the water's edge.

When Uuni finally spoke again, she raised an amused eyebrow, shooting the girl a grin.

"No, but you, you I can read like a book, so you don't count."

Guilt was her new word of the day. She wanted to go backwards and shower Avery in compliments. About how she actually was beautiful, but she'd been teasing. Yet, even if she had, it wouldn't be true. She was good looking, but everything was off. Kind of like this whole situation.

And those words. They sounded right, but there was something particularly odd about this situation.

"Did you slip drugs into my drink?" Was Avery some sort of creepy, stalker girl?

It was starting to feel like it. The way she found she and Kess at the dinner, how'd she'd been trying to toy with her mind after. And now, all of these things that Uuni was half-falling for but just didn't seem to be done correctly.

"You did, didn't you? Look. I don't have that kind of interest in Kess. She's all yours. ********, you're crazy."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:06 pm

"... What?"

Avery was brought up short, glancing over at Uuni and slowly dropping the girl's hand and giving her a confused, almost hurt look. It was quickly masked by a weird smile and she stepped back and away from the older girl.

"Kessy and I aren't like that, and... Why would I slip you fellis? Why would I need--" Cutting herself off, Avery just shook her head, turning and walking away, back toward the weyr.

She didn't know what, exactly, was Uuni's problem, but she was going to get to the bottom of it.
