So, whilst on holiday, and in an internet-deprived daze, my thoughts occasionally wander towards both the guild and steampunk. Specifically, the long awaited Guild Event - which, to my shame, never happened.
However, all this will be changing shortly! For I happened 'pon an idea, which has slowly grown...
The Great Anachronism Airship Air-Race!
It'll be fun, honest....
I'll go into this is more detail later, but what you need to know is thus:
- The 'event' will be a combination of a race (using the 'Roll Dice' post action) and role-play, as you describe you (or your crew's) progress throughout one Day of the race.
- each 'Day', post whatever nonsense you like whilst rolling 2 six-sided dice. This will be how far you move in the day.
- then edit this post accordingly.
- once each crew (or the majority) have posted, a new day begins, and the process repeats.
But wait, there's more!
- If a double is rolled, Something Happens!
I haven't quite decided what these 'somethings' will be; but they'll be along the lines these:
1,1 : Winds blow you off course, until you are rescued by the ship closest behind you.
2,2 : Calamity occurs! Your ship has been damaged, and you must miss a turn to make repairs.
3,3 : Kraken Attack! You must fend off the ravenous beast, but manage to advance 6 in the process.
etc. [unsure on the others]
~
Before the race begins, you must first assemble your crew!
You can either chose to play by yourself (in which case you may, if you wish, make up background crew-members).
Or - if you have plenty of friends, or are not sure that you alone will be able to post often enough - you may chose to form a crew of any number, and work as one. [Nominating a Captain, of course]
Then, you chose you merry vessel. A small, light craft? A formidable galleon? A rusty cargo freighter? Describe it in as much detail as you can manage, for it shall be the airship you race across the skies in.
[NB: For game purposes, all vessels are the same (e.g. equally fast), but when exactly your vessel is should affect your role-playing descriptions and such.
~
And there will be prizes!
What kind of race would this be without some sort of shiny incentive? To make it even better, I've decided to give prizes for several different things.
- Overall Race Winner (whoever has the good fortune to reach with finishing line first)
- Best Roleplaying: Goes to the crew of person displaying admirable role-playing skill as they describe they voyage.
- Best Airship Design: for the most interesting and characterful airship, and its designer.
Maybe more, who knows?

For Example
You make a post, and in said post manage to roll 11 - indicating very good progress.
You then go back, and edit this post, such that it describes your crew making excellent progress, and affording itself a tea-break or two
