A role-play between Impy Kun [Shade Flereous] and epicZILLA [Lee Katan].

Location: A mall in Vargash
Time: 12:30pm
Weather: Cloudy - looks like it might rain.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 6:49 pm

Shade looked up at the sign that read 'The Belt' above the doorway of a clothing store. His mother had sent him to the mall on this particular not-quite-rainy-day with only one order: go find some clothes that didn't consist of a sweater and a pair of jeans.

The impling sighed a bit and scratched the back of his head - he hated shopping for clothes. Hell, he sucked at choosing them too, which might've been part of why he didn't like buying them. The other part of it might've been because he was close to beating the last boss on his Persona 3 game...but that information was probably best kept to himself. It wasn't exactly a valid excuse either.

Upon stepping into the store, the teenager immediately felt, well, lost. Not lost in the sense that he didn't know where he was going, but lost meaning he didn't know what he was looking for. He found the men's section easily enough, but he had no idea of what to do from there. None of the stuff looked like it would even fit him anyway! It was all too big!

'Don't tell me I'll have to go to the kid's section...' It was times like these that he /REALLY/ hated being short. He sighed and wandered over to another section that appeared to have smaller sized clothes - maybe he'd be able to find /SOMETHING/ there?

This was so relaxing... even if she wasn't supposed to be here. Lee had been sorting through racks of clothes from nearly every shop at the mall today; mostly just looking, but she couldn't stop herself from buying one or two accessories with the little bit of money she'd brought with her in the move. She'd left while Faolan was at work and while Ellandra seemed a bit distracted. Sure, she wasn't supposed to leave Farstep without being accompanied by one of them, but what harm could it do? But now... she was out of cash. Three-hundred dollars were gone in mere hours. And what did she have to show for it? A bracelet, a belt, and two pairs of shoes. She sighed, thinking she'd certainly have to look into getting an odd job soon. Living away from her parents was a lot more difficult than she'd imagined it would be.

Digging into her purse, she managed to find a bill hidden in a pocket, and her face brightened a bit at the sight. Another hundred perhaps? Pulling it out, her face pouted once more after un-crumpling the money. A twenty?! What on earth was she supposed to buy with this? Sighing, she wandered around the mall, looking for a shop that might sell something she'd like for twenty dollars. The Belt? She'd never seen this place... Might as well take a look.

It only took a few seconds to find her section -- she felt good knowing she could just barely fit into girls' sized skirts still. Those donuts didn't do too much to her figure apparently. Lee cocked her head as she noticed a boy searching aimlessly in the same section as her. He looked a little young to be shopping alone. But there didn't seem to be a parent figure anywhere in sight. Looking lost, looking young, and looking a little discouraged. Fitting the pieces together, Lee assumed his parents had misplaced him. Poor fella.

"H-hey, did you come here with your mom? Where'd she go?"

Shade scratched at his ear as he stared at the clothes hung before him. He had plenty of money with him - apparently, his mother had been saving up for this for a while - but he didn't know what he should look at. What exactly did his mother want him to get anyway? Hoodies and jeans were obviously off the list, but...other than that, he had no idea.

Long ears twitched as the impling heard a girl's voice speaking behind him. At first, he thought that she must've been talking to someone else...until he noticed that there was no one else around, save perhaps the employees in the store. 'Is she...talking to me?!' Well, this had to be the most embarrassing thing that had happened to him all month. God, he hated being so small!

"Um...n-no, I'm...I'm here by m-myself..." he said quietly before turning to look at the girl. She looked to be about the same age he was, if he was guessing correctly. His tail flicked back and forth, quite aware now that he probably looked like he was about 10. "I'm...not as y-young as I look..." He scratched at an ear again, looking sheepish.

'Note to self: next time you go shopping for clothes, make sure you bring Verdant or Dorian along.'

Lee blinked a few times before it registered clearly. He wasn't a child. He was here on his own. She was embarrassing him. Lee's hands flew up to her mouth, and she partially hid her face so he couldn't see her blush. She was just as embarrassed as he was, it seemed. She'd, once again, assumed wrong. That's what she got for thinking she was helping someone. "I-I'm sorry! I just--!" She just what? Thought he looked like a ten-year-old? No need to further insult the poor boy. "You just look kinda... lost." There. That wasn't as mean, was it? Her arms fell and dangled at her sides pathetically. She should just give up, shouldn't she?

Looking him over a moment, she cocked an eyebrow unintentionally. How old was he, then? How was it possible that she was taller than someone nearly her age? She'd always been shorter than everyone else, especially boys. Shaking her head when she realized the look on her face, she halfheartedly smiled at him, not wanting the boy to think she was trying to size him up. Be nice to him now, be a good girl. And pretend that little mix up didn't just happen. "So, um... you're shopping here, right? You really like these sorta clothes?" Holding up an black and gray stripped long sleeved shirt with a small graphic design in the top corner, she looked at the boy inquisitively. Perhaps it was the clothes he was currently wearing, but this didn't seem like the kind of store a boy like him would be shopping at. In fact, he didn't look like the shopping type at all.

Shade blinked as well when the girl gave him a surprised expression - he hadn't been expecting her to become embarrassed as well. Normally, people either left after learning his age or made some crack about it. She seemed genuinely apologetic though. "It's okay. It h-happens all the time." Well, maybe not /ALL/ the time, but it happened often enough. It embarrassed him, but he'd stopped being insulted by the mistakes made about his age a long time ago.

Lost; yeah, that was a good way of putting it. It was pretty damn accurate, actually. "You could...say that..." He blinked again as he saw the look she was giving him and managed to give her a timid smile - he wasn't exactly a social butterfly at school and he was even worse during his free time. Still, this girl seemed nice enough from what he was seeing.

"Well...I..." He shrugged a bit, unsure of how to answer the question. "Not...really, I guess." Though he wasn't really enthusiastic about shopping for clothing in the first place. "My...Mom just wanted me to get some new stuff. I...really d-don't know what to look for though." The skin beneath his fur flushed red, looking a little embarrassed again - he was a gamer and clothes were not in his department of expertise.

'Then again, lots of tech people can still dress themselves well enough...' Maybe he just had some weird impairment that prevented him from matching clothes nicely. That would certainly explain a lot if he did.

Okay, good, no harm done. Well, he was taking it well enough, anyway. Man, what an awkward way to meet someone. And he seemed pretty uncomfortable. Either that or just shy. Thinking back, this was similar to how she'd met Ellandra. Perhaps guessing people's ages wasn't one of her strong points. But this boy was easy enough to talk to, simply because he wasn't an adult.

So he was lost. At least she'd managed to get that right. Though, even that bit was still slightly off, even if she didn't realize it until he mentioned he didn't know much about clothes. Well, that was something she could help with. "Well..." Lee rummaged through a rack of clothes next to her, trying to find something that would look good on him. She'd loved dressing up Lauss, and knew enough about what boys were supposed to wear to please their mothers. Pulling out a green pin-striped button up shirt in one hand and a plain turquoise t-shirt in the other, she held them up for him to compare. "Is she trying to get you to look nice--" She motioned toward the pinstripes. "... Or just better?" She did the same with the tee. She needed to know what they were dealing with if she was going to be of any help. From what she remembered, not many mothers bothered with their sons' clothing unless it was a formal occasion, but looking at him, she could understand why his mom would want to help out a bit even with everyday clothes.

To make up for insulting him, she'd put together an outfit that even his mommy could be proud of.

Shade definitely hadn't been expecting the girl to start helping him with his clothes - for a moment, he wasn't sure of what to say. 'Help would make this a lot easier though...' Any outfit he put together himself would probably look hideous. "Just...better. She said to get something...that wasn't a sweater and jeans." His mother had never been much for keeping up appearance - really, she didn't have a care about that. However, Luna /WAS/ tired of seeing her son wear the same things all the time and it was time for a change.

He was definitely going to need to thank this girl when everything was done. "I have...about $80.00, if that helps at all." He wasn't sure if letting her know what his budget was would help, but at least it would let her know that he couldn't spend over that amount. Hopefully, it would be enough for an outfit - he didn't go shopping regularly enough to know what the average price of clothes were. Well, actually, he went shopping, just...not for clothes. It was usually either groceries or some new game, should he manage to scrounge up enough money for the latter.

Better, hm? Something casual would be enough. Picking out clothes for him would be good practice for when she would inevitably need to go shopping with Lauss. Perhaps she should do that before he grew...

Lee went from rack to rack, tugging shirts out and holding them up to pants, comparing, examining, testing... Heh, it almost sounded like a science, had the subject matter not been clothes. Her tutor would have been proud. Eighty dollars? Lee's face dropped a bit, now realizing she'd have to be more money conscious than she normally was. It helped reaffirm that he wouldn't be needing any more than just a good shirt and pants, with, provided there was money left over, some shoes to go with them.

It didn't take her long to find a shirt and pants combo for the boy -- a crimson t-shirt and some gray khakis. Hopefully he wouldn't hate it too much, though she wasn't sure he even had a style he liked. It was simple -- almost too simple perhaps -- but it was on budget. "Try this on. See if it looks okay." Lee held out the outfit with both hands and nodded toward the changing rooms. A small smile spread on her lips knowing she'd sort of, in a small way, helped someone for once. Or, at least she hoped she'd helped.

Shade found himself following the girl as she looked through the clothing - it seemed like she was good at this. Then again, didn't most girls like shopping for clothes? He didn't really get the appeal of it, but hey, he wasn't a girl, so maybe that was normal.

The boy blinked down at the shirt and pair of pants that he was handed and nodded, scurrying towards the dressing room the girl was pointing at. It only took him a few minutes to change out of his regular clothes and into the ones the girl had chosen for him. He stepped out of the change room once he was dressed and looked to where the girl was standing. It looked alright to him, but he'd wear almost anything that wasn't pink.

"How...is it?" This was turning into those rare shopping trips he went on with his mother...only he was with a girl he'd met only a few minutes ago rather than his mother.

The boy shifted a bit - his tail was being squashed down in the khakis, since the pants didn't have a hole cut in them already for his tail. If he ended up buying them, he'd have to fix that when he got home. It was times like these that having the extra limb was a pain - literally!

Lee tilted her head, looking the boy up and down, assessing the combination of the two. "It looks pretty good..." But... something was off. Her eyes trailed down to his current shoes. That must have been it. Lee motioned her head for the impling to follow her as she reached a stand covered with shoes in the back of the store. "We should prolly look at these, too." Yes, plain sneakers could easily ruin any outfit -- after all, shoes were the most important accessory! Or, was that haircuts...

Eying the wall, Lee felt the need to ask his opinion, though she wasn't entirely sure he'd have one. "Are there any in particular you like?" She couldn't help but look at the pair of white, boring tennis shoes at the top, praying he wouldn't ask to see those.

Lee remembered the budget, and hoped that this all wouldn't add up to too much. Shoes tended to be a bit more expensive than the rest of the outfit, and they'd have to look for a cheaper pair. Of all the times to have moved away from home...
PostPosted: Mon Jul 27, 2009 9:54 pm

Shade hurried along after the girl, trying to adjust the pants over his tail as the two of them made their way over to the shoe displays. He looked over the different styles that were up on the rack and scratched the back of his head as the girl asked for his opinion on them.

The impling swallowed a bit, taking a few moment to think it over before trying to reply - he just hoped that he'd be able to choose a pair that actually MATCHED the clothes that the girl had chosen. "I...the black slip-ons look good...I think..." Had his tail not been up against his leg right now, it probably would've been swishing back and forth nervously.

A thought suddenly struck him as he stood there with the girl - she was helping him pick out clothes, and yet he didn't even know what her name was! Now that he thought about it, he probably came off as rude for not introducing himself. "Um...I'm Shade by the way. What's...your name? If you don't mind me asking..."

Lee let out an audible sigh of relief. At least he had some idea of good fashion sense. Lifting them to examine the shoes closer, she nodded to the boy, finding that they were, indeed, a pair that would go well. "Pretty nice. They look comfortable." That wasn't usually a good thing, but these happened to be the rare pair that were comfortable and stylish. Lee cocked her head as she handed the shoes over to the impling. At least now he could feel he actually participated in the shopping. She had to admit, it was surprising to see he'd been able to match them so well. She couldn't help but wonder if he really liked the shoes or if it was just a lucky guess. "Wanna try them on? While you're still wearing everything..."

Mind? Nope, why would she mind? "I'm Lee." Ah, dang, she'd forgotten to say "Miss". Being at Farstep was really getting to her. So informal. But hey, that was okay for shopping at the mall -- in fact, it would probably be a little weird when Shade likely had no clue who her family was.

Even when Lee was comfortable, it seemed she wasn't much of a talker.

Shade couldn't help but feel relieved himself as the girl said that the shoes looked alright. He nodded and took the slip-ons as they were handed to him and sat down on a bench that was sitting next to the shoe display. He was please to find that his choice actually fit quite well; they were very comfortable! He stood up so that the girl could get a better look at him - it looked alright from where he was standing, but he wanted to make sure.

"It's nice to meet you, Lee..." The impling boy gave her a small smile. "And, I, um...really appreciate the help..." He could only imagine how many hours he'd have spent in here if she hadn't helped him - it made the whole process so much easier! He'd have to find a way to thank her somehow...

Lee nodded with approval as Shade showed off the shoes; well, they weren't the best match from the choices given, but they still looked pretty good, and they sure did look comfortable, which might entice the impling to wear them more often. Anything to replace those silly sneakers...

With a half laugh of embarrassment, the girl simply nodded to Shade, a little grateful herself for his acknowledgment. There were very few times that she would choose to help someone out when it took more effort than just handing them extra change. It was a nice feeling, though, knowing she'd done some good, even if it was slightly time consuming. "Ya know, shopping isn't all that hard if you do it a lot... and have the money to practice." Lee pulled on the ends of her hair as her eyes wandered, falling on the dressing room Shade had been in. He'd have to put those clothes back on, wouldn't he? A shame. He looked so nice now.
