Kabusha chuckled softly as she peered around the bushes to spy on one of her cubs. She had never imagined how much joy and laughter the small little bodies would bring into her life. They had also in a way gave birth to her new life.

Stepping from around the corner she made a soft noise alerting her daughter to her presence. Of all her cubs, little Tahki was the most colorful and never failed to make her laugh.

Tahki reminded her a bit of her mother, but more of herself as a cub. Perking her ears, she grinned down at her daughter. "And what are you doing little girl?"

Tahki had been in the middle of pawing a lizards tail (for some reason it had just snapped off?) when she heard her mother. The little cub jumped a bit and hid the tail under her big paws. Turning, slowly, she faced her mother with a large toothy , I don't have a lizards tail under my paws, grin.

"Hey momma~ " Tahki chimed to her mother trying to seem like the perfect little angel. How long had momma been standing there? Had she seen that the Lizards tail detached on its own?

Hopefully she thought the thing under her paws was a warm, or better yet, didn't notice she was trying to hide something. Tahki just grinned.

Kabusha arched a brow amused as she gazed down at her little one. "Mmmhmm what's under your foot baby?" Oh she knew that playful little grin meant. She was worn it herself more than once.

Walking further into the clearing, the dusky blue lioness sat down beside her brightly colored daughter and waited patiently.

Playful scamp Tahki may be, she didn't have the patients needed to out wait her mother and Kabusha knew it wouldn't be long until she gave up whatever she had.

Tahki's eyes widened, drat momma had seen she had something under her paws. And the damn thing was still wiggling too. Tahki could feel it brush her paw every so often. Drat.

Still Tahki grinned her , I don't know what your talking about , grin and tried to play stupid.

This act didn't last long though. Her mother's stare was starting to gain weight and make Tahki feel the need to twitch a bit. Staying still was so hard. Finally after a long moment the cub lifted her paws to reveal the still, semi, twitching lizard tail.

"... It just came off I swear! " She retorted quickly.

Kabusha bit her lower lip to keep from hurting her daughter's feelings, but lord the struggle to not burst into laughter made her ribs ache.

Gods how she loved these mischievous little brats. Clearing her throat, she arched her brow studying her cub then the lizard's tail. "It just came off?" She was careful to keep the amusement from her voice.

"Came off...or you pulled it off sweetling?"

She curled her tail around her haunches as she waited patiently for the answer to her question.

Tahki opened her mouth and then closed it. Not that she didn't expect that kind of reaction but she hadn't a clue how to reply. The truth seemed FAR to far fetched even for her. And she was the queen of bsing stories.

Ah well, give it a shot. Truth never hurt.. nor did fabrications.

"Well... You see it was trying to attack me with its death vision. BUT THEN I pounced its tail. THEN it ran away and the tail detached from its body..." Yeah that sounded.... well part of it was true?

Again Kabusha made that odd choking sound as she looked away from her daughter. Lord how this mischievous little brat reminded her of herself.

Taking a deep breath having composed herself she glanced down at Tahki, laughter making her violet eyes dance. "Death vision? Oh my, how did you ever escape love?"

Stretching out on the dry ground, she reached out a heavy paw, dragging the cub to her. Grimacing at the muck covering her, Kabusha began to groom her clean.

Tahki's smile widened and may have looked a tad smug on her youthful face. Momma believed her, and that was enough to make the cub cocky and messy in her story telling. Though, admittedly, the cubs story telling skills could use some polishing.

"Well," The cubs eyes lite up, "It wasn't easy. I dodged this way," The cub pounced in a way she would dodge, " AND THEN I had to bee line it this way," Tahki moved the way she would in her story, "But then I pounced that lizard , yeah ~ But its tail fell off and it got away..." She looked up at her mom with a bigger grin. At least part of the story was true. Unbelievable to the cub, but true.

This time Kabusha couldn't hold back her laughter, and threw her head back laughing happily. Gods how creative the little girl was, so inventive and mischievous. Finally her laughter subsided, as she reached up to wipe her tears away, still chuckling softly as she licked Tahki's face.

"My sweet, silly little girl...do you honestly think I believe that?"

Her violet eyes danced as she looked down at Tahki, one brow cocking as she regarded her. "Baby, it is one thing to have a creative mind, it is another to out and out lie to someone. Yes this time it was not something important, but if you get into the habit of lying now, then when it -is- important it will be just as easy to lie. Then no one will trust you."

She wasn't trying to scold her, not really, after all most cubs told tales, but she wanted her to understand why it was important to tell the truth.

Was the story really that unbelievable? Tahki's head lowered some a little ashamed she had tried to lie to her mother. Her eyes fell on the lizard tail that still twitched about on the ground like it had a mind of its own.

"I-I told some of the truth ? " She looked up at her mom , ears lowered still in shame. "The lizards tail really did fall off when I pounced it."

That was the most unbelievable part of the story to the young cub. How had a lizards tail just fallen off?

Sensing her daughter's distress, Kabu purred softly reaching out one large paw to pull Tahki to her. Lowering her head, she nuzzled a stubborn patch of fur before grooming her gently. She knew that the little girl wasn't lying to be secretive, just that she had a wild imagination and it should be nurtured.

"Their tails do fall off, it happened when I tried to catch lizards as a cub too. And it was a wonderful story baby, you should never be ashamed of being able to tell such wonderful tales. Why you would make a wonderful tale-spinner for the pride!"

She beamed down at the brightly colored cub, her violet eyes dancing with pride that he daughter was so smart.

Tahki frowned a bit as her mother started cleaning her. She hated bath time, but she loved her mother. Tahki swallowed her verbal complaints and just let her mother groom her. Bleh.

Her ears perked a bit. She could be a story weaver? Was she that good? Tahki blinked.

"R-Really? " She smiled some. All of a sudden the bath wasn't so bad. She could be a tale spinner! Oh gosh she'd need to practice though.

"Momma, I can tell your story to all the cubs," Tahki chimed, "Tell them how you taught me things and.. umm bathed me and got us food. Your the best mom~ "

Kabusha chuckled softly as she nuzzled her playfully daughter. She was already so proud of how smart she was and knew that her pride in her children would only grow as they got older and began to fill their roles in life.

"yes indeed baby, you could be one of the great story tellers. But you must remember that the best stories always have a bit of the truth to them."

Nuzzling her once more, Kabusha got her feet with a soft purr.

"Come though, it is getting late, we need to be returning to the den."

Tahki blushed a bit at that. She hadn't meant the lie but it was true, she'd just lied to her mother in story format. Ears lowered a bit but she was glad that her mother wasn't angry at her for it.

Home right now sounded like a great idea, Tahki smiled up at her mom and purred.

"Okay momma," Tahki got up and rubbed her head to her mothers arm. "Lets go home."

Lizard hunting could wait for another day.
