Personality : Discordant Harmonies, commonly Discord - and sparingly, Heretic - is a simple woman by nature and active choice. Nonetheless, she has more than her fair share of trouble. This is because Discord's sole pursuit in life is for knowledge. Any and all kinds, on the widest variety of subjects one could come up with, Dis will inquire about it earnestly. This leads her to an open-mindedness second to none, but also makes her constantly question whether or not she is being taken advantage of and/or lied to. This paranoia, more often than not, leads her to push away people even as they are drawn in.
This paranoia and natural caginess leads Discord away from emotions that might be easier displayed for others: not only does she not wear her heart upon her sleeve, she strains to lock it deep within the proverbial box and bury it far away as did the dragons of old. Easy happiness and laughter are things that one doesn't often see on her face. Instead, seriousness and calm are her second natures - no matter what may be brewing inwardly.
The lapses in her suspicious conduct reveal that Dis is also a kind woman, even empathic, when she cares to care. Listening skills and patience make Discord good with others, even if she herself would rather be left alone. When she is captivated by a subject, Dis reveals a near-boundless tenacity and loyalty toward that person; she is more protective of people she deems interesting, from defending them in conflicts to going out of her way to fulfill their desires. In spite of herself, she finds people interesting... so long as they have some substance.

History :
Discord's family has a long history of "striving to make it better". From their home situation, to their working lives, to their overall social standing - where the Harmonics stand is never just enough. Discord has no love for this ambitious social climbing, always content to live in the moment and keep a wary eye on the future: just live, be comfortable; good things come to those who wait. Her parents, seeing this lack of over-reach as laziness, strain to force her to better herself in as many ways as possible - even if she does not agree to this varied, and often harmful, ways. A Harmonic is never happy with their lot, since there is always room for more. Discord, living her life in the moment, is the exception to this rule. And as she grows up, she proves herself "exceptional" one time too often...
"After these incidents... We just can't have you at home anymore."
Her eyes watched their lips move without meaning. Her parents. Discord had long ago forgotten their faces, their names.
"It's just that... That we don't want anything to happen to you. This is a very, ah... opinionated community, and we don't want people to start talking-"
"They've already started talking, James."
"Oh. Yes... Well."
Her cheeks burned, eyes beginning to slide slowly out of focus...
"You're just spending too much time with that girl, lately, Discord. And her mannerisms are questionable, so people are beginning to - Dee, she's doing it again-!"
Her father didn't miss a beat. No sooner were the words out of his mouth that he smacked his daughter; a harsh tap across one cheek. It was enough for Discord's head to jar itself to the side, ruining her attempts at ignoring the man and woman in front of her. A light tap, comparably.
"Say something, Discord!"
"Quiet, Dee. You know she won't. Never does." The glare he gave her mother was enough to make Discord see a little bit of red. She reached back into herself, slowly, pulling on whatever core was there to keep her lips together, her teeth from parting, her feet firmly rooted to the ground. "Now look. I don't know what you and that girl have been doing, but the long and short is that we just can't have it. She's got a future ahead of her, and promise, you know who her family is. I won't have you bringing them down on us."
I won't have you ruining us. The words hung unspoken between them, dripping down on their collective heads with the weight. Discord could feel more than see the eyes of her father's sons staring up at her, safe behind his back - safe from her. Her father, her brothers, her mother... Eight eyes secure in their solidarity. And glaring at the only threat to their happiness, only an arm's length away. Discord felt the canyon between herself and them - their family... their little unit - deepen by a few fathoms.
"You'll be fine at Jaradin." Because she was so much of a freak here, right? "You just need to... get away for a while." Get out. She was getting good at these unspoken cues.
"The coach is here, Discord..." Her mother was near tears, and something in Dis' heart panged at the sound of it. But it didn't take a genius to see that she, and her oh-so-heartbroken tears, were doing nothing to stop this. As she stepped away... they all slipped endlessly into the chasm.
