It had been a long, hot day, and with people still somewhat bummed after the slightly traumatic Hatching, there was work nevertheless to be done. For those with demanding dragons and flighty baby blue firelizards, such as A'dan, the day had still been exhausting enough for three men. Dinner was, however, always a reprieve, for all that Sigranth had needed to be washed and oiled after practice, and then he'd had to oil and wash the much smaller Seabird, and now, with the sleepy, hungry little blue creeling piteously wrapped around his forearm and the great dozey bronze Sigranth grumbling lazily, A'dan was feeling a bit harried and exhausted as he strode into the dining hall. Tiny claws were dug into his skin, and sitting down heavily once he'd retrieved a plate of meatrolls, A'dan snorted in amusement, looking down with quiet fascination at the pitiful little blue creature as he tore off a piece. "Hush, you," A'dan mumbled with a chuckle as he offered the bit of meat to the greedy little jaws. Tiny orangey eyes had changed to a more normal green as the hatchling chomped gleefully down.
I imagine, said Sigranth in the back of A'dan's head, amused, that you look like a wherry.
Perhaps, replief A'dan with a chuckle out loud, but he's quiet, now... He watched, slightly mistily, as Seabird savaged another bit of meat, chuckling a bit.

You are thinking that this isn't so bad, aren't you?
Long and slender fingers tore into the bread roll with reverence. Between the splits came tendrils of steam, followed by an aroma most pleasing. There had been word of sabotage within the kitchen but, as N'ron observed, someone still had some pride. Pealing off a sheaf of the roll that would fit easily into his mouth, he delicately pushed the food past his lips. It was a little more dry than he could have hoped for, but certainly not unpleasant. He'd definitely dined on worse.
I am thinking that it is... acceptable.
He almost never spoke aloud to his dragon, even when in complete privacy. It was appropriate now that there were miles of stone separating each other at least. Like any seasoned rider, his actions were not affected by the conversation going on in his mind.
And you are still ill content.
It isn't horrible, Erevuth admonished, although not without a mental huff, but
It isn't Benden, and you feel as if we have downgraded.
Silence.
My dearest, it has always been your nature to sulk. We have been over this many times before. You acclimate seamlessly, make no mistake, but I know your disappointment. And I do not expect you to settle within a mere sevenday, not at all, but I know that in time you will learn to accept it.
Maybe it will be easier for me once you do. The tone in his head was tart, but not without some smugness. N'ron's lips twisted into a wry smirk of amusement, his blue eyes twinkling as he seemed to pour over his roasted wherry meat.
I will return to you soon. Was his cool reply, and the man began on the more meaty portion of his plate. He became a little more aware of his surroundings, especially when he reminded himself that a meal was a time for conversation. His eyes caught on a sliver of blue nearby, ears catching the tail end of a chuckle. There was a rider nearby who seemed very pleased by the actions of his firelizard as it sated the hunger all flits were notorious for.
"One would think that you starve the little beast," He addressed the other male easily, placing his chin upon his hand musingly, "How old is he?"

"Hm?" A'dan's head rose when he'd realized he was being spoken to, his attention snapped from the greedy little gut currently crooning and rubbing its little head against his forearm. "Oh! Seabird. He's only a day or two old." One hand quite occupied, the other busily plucked off another bit of meatroll to feed the voracious little creature, whom he'd propped up on the edge of the table. "So he imagines his belly is empty when I've fed him only an hour ago, and when it's been more than that, his innards nearly cave in, to hear him squawk." Matter-of-factly, the rider shook his head, sighing a bit. "I had forgotten how needy younglings are, since Sigranth's long past that stage." He gave a small chuckle, shaking his head as the overenthusiastic flit nipped at his fingertips. "I am quite sure you recall that as well." Still, it was not as if, given the chance, A'dan would not relive those days. "With formation drills earlier, the little creature thinks he's been starved for a Turn."
Poor A'dan, though -- his own stomach was rumblingly empty and in his hurry to appease the little blue beast digging tiny baby claws into his arm, he'd not had a moment to spare toward getting his own plate. Wistfully, he eyed the dinners that'd been set out with a sigh. "I rather know the poor creature's feeling. If he isn't full enough soon to settle down, I may eat him for dinner." Still, the words were gentle, amused.

N'ron looked like he understood exactly what A'dan was speaking of, issuing a sigh of sympathy. Honestly, he did not think he would be at all content to cater to such a demanding creature if he could help it, which was why he generally steered clear of any commitments to flits. Or any pet, for that matter. Erevuth was more than enough for him, and at least a dragon could be particularly useful. If he ever needed company elsewhere, well, that was what other people were for.
"I do. I do indeed recall. Although it has been a little longer than I care to admit." A small, cool smile, his eyes seeming to warm with idle humor.
"You are bronzerider A'dan, are you not? I admit I did not recognize you right away as my first view of you has been from my place in the formation." He gestured to Seabird with his free hand. "I can't allow you to become famished, now can I? If he'll have me, I could take care of feeding that little tyrant while you help yourself..."

"I am indeed A'dan," he replied with a pleasant, if small, smile and a roll of his shoulders, "and if I recall my people right, you're N'ron? I hope you'll forgive my lack of sociability -- ouch." After a moment, A'dan winced, and gently pried a little toothy maw off his thumb. "I'd be incredibly grateful for the help, if you wouldn't mind... I haven't eaten since morning and my own stomach's nigh on empty." It took him a few moments to pull the ravenous little blue off his arm where the creature had been clinging, and with the little claws grabbing hold of one finger, he chuckled sheepishly as he offered the wriggling, piteously wailing creature to N'ron.
"I thank you from the very pit of my stomach..."

"You are not mistaken, A'dan. I confess I did not expect you to notice me at all, much less my name, so I'm a bit flattered." He gave a small, almost grateful smile to the other. He happened to be a wonderful liar when it came to being humble- of course he'd expected everyone to notice him. He was older, and considered himself much more polished as compared to his fellow wingriders. Only someone full of themselves would be ignorant enough to not spare him a second glance! Which he assumed most bronzeriders were. So maybe he really was a little sincere.
He chuckled along with A'dan, reaching his hand further across the table for the firelizard. By the First Egg, don't let this be a dim mistake on my part...
"Come now, little beast. Behave and I will feed you all you wish..." N'ron coaxed, making to seize the creature with one hand. The other tore free a hunk of his wherry meat so it could be offered as a bribe.

Seabird did not seem amused at the other's attempts to confiscate him, and a distressed little croon escaped him, but when bright red-orange eyes caught sight of what the other hand was doing, the little blue keened, rather dismayed. Carefully, little paws latched onto the older rider's hand, and carefully the young flit clambered across from his owner's hand.
"Hah, he's a little traitor," chuckled A'dan without any real heat in his tone, smiling mildly as the little blue crawled up to inspect the other rider. When the warm little weight had gone from his own hand, he rose carefully. "If you think you've got him," he said, "then I think I'll head to get myself a bite to eat?"

He did his best to keep his hand still as the flit crawled along his hand, absently noting the similarities between the feel of its hide and that of his dragon. "Yes, I've got you..." He cooed in return to the reluctant youngling, mentally bolstering himself by taking into account he hadn't been bitten yet.
"Off with you," He would tell the other rider, blue eyes flickering up to the other with the faintest hint of a smile in them. Really, A'dan better get going. As well-behaved as the flit was now, he didn't intend to babysit all evening. Meanwhile, he offered the sliver of meat to Seabird, bringing the flit a bit closer to his chest.
"He'll be right back." He told the flit in a murmur, hoping that would pacify it some as well.

"I'll return," A'dan reassured the other with a warm, appreciative smile of thanks as he met that bright blue gaze with his own steady, mellow grey one, and inclining his head in thanks, left hastily, striding away to retrieve himself some dinner. Though he was ill inclined to eat much that was produced by the Istan cooks, a rider had to fill his belly with something, right?
Meanwhile, little Seabird wriggled daintily along the unfamiliar arm, nosing at it and generally making himself a very tiny nuisance with little claws and awkward wings he had not yet quite mastered. He chirped curiously, tilting his head as he looked up at N'ron. This was not his owner, he thought. And yet the unfamiliar hand had what looked suspiciously like food.
His forked tail twitched, side to side, in uncertainty, before he raised himself up on hind legs, reaching out with grabby little claws to take hold of the meat just in time to topple back against his babysitter, stuffing the bit of wherry into his little maw greedily, while making urgent little grabs after another and creeling pitifully.

The man would grunt as the weight of the miniature dragon hit him, more startled than hurt. An arm curled an absent loop on the table as if he could coral the animal with merely that. The other hand set about picking up another hunk of meat, careful about how large it was. The very last thing he needed was for the youngling to choke because it tried to bite off more than it could chew.
Perhaps you should come and feed me. Everuth's voice broke into his mind snottily.
Jealous, my dear?
Hardly!
"You have quite the appetite," He'd murmur to Seabird, more than willing to tear off more food as he ate it. "And very little table manners. Much more charming than some humans I know, however..." One finger would aim to scratch at the crown of Seabird's head.

Cuddling into the curve of the other's arm, the little blue kept reaching out after the bits of meat happily, stuffing his little face. Seabird chirred contentedly, tailtip flicking back and forth with delight, and as the gentle finger stroked his little blue head, like a pleased cat the little creature nuzzled up against the scratching. Pretty blues and greens filtered into the flit's hungry red-orange gaze, and after a moment, like a little flit bracelet, thin forepaws wrapped around the rider's wrist. The tiny blue could get used to this treatment, he rather thought, vocalizing a sweet little croon. At least until his keeper returned with food, he would be pleased enough with N'ron -- while the other fed him, anyway. His little belly poked out already, oiled smooth, warm against the rider's forearm.

N'ron found that he didn't mind the situation too horribly. His long fingers stroked over the slick azure skin of the flit's back, offering a little bit of a scratch from time to time. He was well aware that he was probably spoiling the thing somewhat but, hey, it wasn't his beast. He wouldn't be having to deal with any bad manners it might gain as a consequence. The man simply did what he could to charm the beast, cooing quietly as he offered the youngling more treats between his pets.
His eyes wandered about the rest of the cavern in the meantime, looking for A'dan. Just where had that boy gotten off to? His ears were piqued, too, and as he waited he would allow the surrounding conversations to filter through him.

A few moments later, as if he had materialized from thin air, A'dan appeared, carrying a heavy-laden plate that carried several thick slices of roasted wherry, and a couple of rolls, as well as a pair of the redfruits he so adored. "I'm sorry that took so long," commented the blond with a sheepish grin as he deposited the plate on the table, "but Seabird does seem to have taken well to you. And I brought you a bit of extra to make up for my greedy little gut devouring your dinner."
Indeed, the little blue was quite contented, and had relaxed, enjoying the treats with a sweet little thrum in his chest.

"That's quite alright. I know how difficult it is these days to find anything that has been untouched by some wrath of the stoves. I do wonder what they're fueling them with here, that it would kick up so much heat as to char nearly everything. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. A little crispness never hurt anyone." He set his cheek in one hand, observing the other man with a rather easygoing expression. His gaze would flicker down to the plate the man brought along, then down to Seabird.
"Oh, he's quite well-behaved. It was a pleasure." N'ron would give the flit another kind little scritch along his spine before he finally reached to take a drink from his mug. "Is he your only one?"

"I half-wonder if they don't simply let a horde of overenthusiastic flits with firestone cook our dinners," said A'dan drolly, stretching his legs out beneath the table as he began to pluck at the choice bits of meat, his stomach giving a dismayed rumble. "It's not over-bothersome, but a bit irritating just the same." Taking a bite, he chewed thoughtfully, gazing back at N'ron, rather unshaken.
"Ordinarily, he's a little terror," A'dan mused, as Seabird gave a little yawn, and the little flit eyed him with sleepy, lidded blue eyes. "At least when he's hungry. Aye, he's my only one. A gift, he was. I'd never expected one of my own.
