Alastar put a sign on his door that said:
Meet behind hut.
He was eager to begin his first day at Hogwarts. He walked around back and looked at his agenda for the day. They were going over winged horses.

Ryu walked to the hut by the edge of the forest where Care of Magical Creatures was being held. The new teacher had put a sign up that said to meet in the back so he walked around the hut and gasped at what he saw. There, standing next to a large, newly constructed stable, was his grandfather. When his grandfather said it would be a suprise what he was doing this year, he was right. Ryu walked up and put his books down next to a tree. He also got out his Monster Book of Monsters, and his Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

Persephone walked down the long path to the hut where the Care of Magical Creatures lived. Marduke grumbled. When they reached the hut, the sign told them to go around back. They saw a little Slytherin kid standing near a rock with two different Care of Magical Creatures books. Persephone and Marduke looked at each other and set their bags down. The professor was an older man, but he looked nice, Sephie thought.

Bounding cheerfully around the hut, Ginger couldn't keep her grin to herself. She loved this subject, and it didn't matter who taught it, it would always remain one of her favourites, along with Transfiguration and Charms. Care Of Magical Creatures required, however, none of the spell and wandwork either of her other loved subjects did, but it included animals, and that was as good as it got, according to her.
She saw her two house mates as well as Persephone standing there, and looked curiously at the professor.

Alastar leaned on his walking stick as other kids arrived. He nodded at Ryu when he came and smiled. "Is everyone here?" he started, "Good, good. First off, allow me introduce myself. Alastar Archadia, Order of Merlin; Third Class, former member of the Wizengamot, and retired alchemist." he said as he looked around the class. "I thought we should start with something small; Winged horses." he gestured to large, recently constructed stable behind him. "Can anyone tell me how many different species of winged horses are there?"

As the other students came in, he noticed a couple from his House. He listened to his grandfather and thought to himself. One, two. . . How many are there?

Emylee quickly walks to the back of the hut. She was hoping she wasn't late.

Persephone raised her hand.
"Sir, i don't know exactly how many, but i know of four for sure--Abraxan, Aethonan, Granian, and Thestrals."
Sephie glanced at the wooden stable, wondering which kind of winged horse he had in there. She knew there were Thestrals at Hogwarts...and now that her parents are dead and she had watched them die, she would be able to see them...

"Incorrect, Ms. Marduke, and please raise your hand to speak in my class. But, Ms. Persephone, you were correct; 5 points to Gryffindor. There are exactly 4 breeds of winged horse, with the exception of one more; can anyone tell me what it is? How about you, Ryu." he looked at his grandson.

Ryu had raised his hand at the question and replied, "A hippogriff?"

"Correct. Can anyone tell me the difference between a Griffin and a Hippogriff?"

Trista walked shyly to the back of the hut, just in time to hear his question. She glanced around and noticed Sephie and Marduke along with the other girls she had met at breakfast.
Trista raised her hand slowly towards the professor, then lowered it as he looked her way. "The difference, sir, between the two lies within the mixing of animal combinations. A hippogriff is a mix between horse and a griffin itself. A griffin is the mix between lion and eagle."
Trista looked nervously at the teacher as he registered her answer, feeling quite embarrassed that she showed up so late to class and had rushed to answer his question as she entered.

Delila rounded the corner as the professor has started speaking and she hurried to a spot where she had a clear view of both teacher and stable. Care of Magical Creatures was her favourite class, and there was no way she was going to miss it, not for any reason. The only that dissapointed her was that she arrived to late to answer any of the questions. Oh well, she would be able to join in on the next round.

"I am sorry to say that you are only half correct. A griffin is a mix between an eagle and a lion, but a hippogriff is a mix between an eagle and a horse. The real answer I was looking for was that a hippogriff's feather colors differ from black to white, and a griffin's feather colors differed from red to yellow. Also the hippogrif's hind legs and tail are that of a horse, and a griffin's are that of a lion. HINT, HINT, HINT." he said indicating that they would need this information soon. "Now, can anyone tell me the differences between an Abraxan, an Aethonon, and a Granian-Ms. Marduke, kindly don't eat in my class unless you have some to share with rest of us." he said without bothering to look in her direction, but continued to limp around the class with his walking stick.

Trista blushed slightly, rather embarrassed to be corrected in front of the class about her answer. She recovered soon though, she was partially right. She realized that she was in fact here to learn, she didn't need to know everything already, so she shrugged the thoughts off and glanced towards Marduke as the professor scolded her. Hm, I could go for an apple right now Trista thought to herself.
