The place where all research and development happens. A large area is reserved for a plethora of screens that have the capability to become one complete monitor. Test tubes, beakers, and other glass items and utensils are not in short supply here. There are also many small refrigerators that are used to store mixtures and solutions, both complete and incomplete.
Wearing goggles is MANDATORY!

Beep.... beep... beep... beep... beep... SMASH! "SHUT UP!" The normally quiet lab erupted into sounds of smashing glass and plastic as Shin destroyed what was a small computer. The computer was analyzing a skin sample of a odd specimen he had found while searching through the break room refrigerator. While it was tough to capture the beast, he managed to subdue it with some salt and catchup. Shin readjusted his goggles and started to reexamine the sample when he was yet again interrupted by another beeping. He pulled a base-ball bat out of his lab-jacket and was about to smash the machine until he realized what the machine went to. "Oh my! The specimen is ready for examination and trial run!" He said excitedly as he waltzed over to the incubation tank that contained a lab-bred demon. He looked up at the demon, bubbles floated up past his body to their untimely death up at the surface of the greenish-yellow liquid. "Tch, Hibiki-taichou would be cross if I were to release him now...." Shin said as he grabbed as his chin thoughtfully while looking towards a picture of his taichou sitting on his desk beside a box of worms. "But.... I could do all of the trivial work now, and save her some time! Yes, so in that case it will be perfectly fine if I were to open this incubation tube!" Shin hopped over to the keypad beside the tank; wires protruded from the back up the glass to the machine keeping the demon alive, and the tank closed. He entered a twenty-digit pass-code to start the activation sequence, which zapped life into just before it drains away the fluid. ZAP! There was a bright flash that made Shin shield his eyes while life was zapped into the demon. Just as he would open his eyes, the liquid would begin draining out the bottom into a collection tank hidden down below. Shin giggled happily as he watched the last bit of liquid seep below the grated floor. PSSHHHHH! Air escaped out of the tank as the pressure equalized with the surround room, and finally, at last. The glass lifted up and away, leaving the demon strapped into place. Shin walked right up to the specimen, examining him inch by inch. "Amazing, he looks just like a human... and even a shinigami for that matter." Shin skipped back over to his lab-desk and picked up a notepad and pen, well, if he could find the pen.

The demons chest expanded and retracted slowly as life was given to him. Once the fluid drained below his face, his eyes opened slightly; just enough to show a hint of the color red that they were. He continued to stare toward the floor of the lab as Shin examined him, remaining motionless until Shin had walked off to get the paper and pen before opening his eyes further and lifting his head a bit. Curious red eyes followed Shin as he looked for the pen.

"Found you!" Shin yelled in a victorious tone as he snatched up his pen and darted back to the demon. "Oh hello there! I see that you're awake!" He said excitedly as he started to scribble down some notes in hand writing so bad, it would make one wonder how Miko could read it. "Well, now that I can see that you are indeed alive, lets see if you can stand." Shin first unstrapped the demon's legs, than his arms, and lastly, his torso. THUD! "I guess... you need to learn how to stand like the rest of us." The small scientist stated with a chuckle. "That is no problem though, it will give me time to observe your learning capability."

Laying in a crumpled pile on the floor, Kokuro continued to watch Shin, though he was able to hear him, it sounded more as just noise to the demon for the time being. A finger twitched and he looked to it quickly, any movement catching his attention, as he started to concentrate, trying to get it to move again, soon succeeding in making the finger twitch several more times on command. Kokuro began to work on the rest of the hand.

"Sit up, sit up!" Shin said in excitement as he dropped his notepad and got down on the floor next to the demon. He sat him up, carefully of course, and started to look him over in ways that would bother anyone else; such as forcing his mouth open to look at his teeth, shining a bright light in his eyes to check if they developed correctly, and pretty much every other part of the body that could be checked over. "I really can't believe this! A perfect specimen on our first try." Shin sighed as he jotted down some notes. "We will need to name you... though I will leave that part up to taichou." He looked back over to the demon and held his hand out. "Can you... grab my hand? You do this." Shin reached over and grabbed the demon's hand to show him what to do. "Now.. your turn."

After Shin had sat him up, he kept working at controlling his hands and arms while Shin went back to looking him over. Kokuro looked over to the notepad as Shin wrote before looking to the held out hand, then watched as he was shown what to do. Looking up at Shin for a moment and back to the hand, the demons head tilted to one side slowly as an arm slid forward a short ways and stopped, he looked at Shin once more.

"Go on, it's alright." Shin said, urging him on with a smile. "After you do this, I will teach you how to walk, eat... all of that stuff!" The little scientist was starting to sound even more excited before. "And when we are done with all of that, I will help you learn how to speak and write!"

Kokuro still couldn't make out what was being said to him, but the tone of Shin's voice, even excited, was already helping him make out a few of the smaller words, even if he didn't know how their meaning. He shakily raised the arm that was slid forward and had it linger for a few moments, his eyes on Shin's hand as though he was concentrating before laying his hand over the other. Once again he looked to Shin, this time for his approval.

Shin nodded to Kokuro. "It's fine, go on." Shin almost felt as if he was training a puppy, a big puppy. He really didn't know why he was trying so hard, typically he would have caged up the experiment and started to test some drugs on them to see the affects, but this time, he wasn't going to do that.

He squeezed as hard as he could, it not being that much to start out, repeating the movement several more times while his grip got stronger. Rubbing Shin's hand a bit with his thumb, Kokuro was now curious about his sense of touch as he rubbed the skin of his own arm before going back to Shin's hand, making a quiet noise as though he was happy with himself thus far.

"Oh yeah, you're just learning about the senses..." Shin said realizing what the demon was doing. Shin took off his goggles and tossed them off to the side, for once breaking that rule. "Here... touch." he said while ripping a page out of his notepad and holding the piece of paper out to him. Shin also realized that he has never tasted anything before. That caused him to jump up and dash over to his desk, throwing various objects off to the side until he found a piece of chocolate, one of the few things that was not made with lab chemicals, and rushed back over to the demon. "Here, taste this!" He said, breaking off a piece and holding it out to him

Grabbing the paper he rubbed it between two fingers, then both hands, causing it to make a crinkling noise. By the time Shin returned with the chocolate, the piece of paper was turned into a ball. Kokuro looked at the chocolate that was being handed to him and looked at Shin, confused what to do with it though he took it anyway. It started to melt between his fingers, causing him to squish and smear it in a line down his hand.

Shin laughed as he watched the demon melt the chocolate. "No no, you're suppose to eat it." Shin broke off a piece and put it into his mouth. "See?" Shin broke off another piece and held it out towards him. "You need to eat it."

Kokuro watched as Shin stuck the chocolate into his mouth and took the second piece from him, placing it in his own mouth. As it melted he was able to taste it, causing him to make a quiet and pleasant squeak. The chocolate ended up sticking to the roof of his mouth before it melted completely. Kokuro looked at the paper ball and picked it up once again, the movement of his arms already getting smoother. Bringing the paper to his mouth he went to try eating it, too.
