The Rider Name: W'in (formerly Weylin) Age: 19 Sex: Male Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: N/A Rank: Jr. Weyrling Physical Description: At a first glance, W'in could easily be mistaken for a girl, particularly since so many of Ista’s females seem to masquerade as boys. Short and slim, he has wider hips than most boys his age, as well as a narrow waist, trim stomach, and long legs. His shoulders are narrow and slightly sloped, his fingers long and delicate. He wears his strawberry-blonde hair short in an effort to avoid the gender confusion, but it seems to be unavoidable. His delicate features don’t help either: full lips, large honey-brown eyes, and a distinctly pixie-ish heart-shaped face. All in all, he’s very pretty, but not at all masculine. He could be some boy’s dreamgirl, except for the (perhaps not entirely) obvious lack of female parts. And W'in resents this with every fiber of his being.
Personality: Contrary to (or perhaps because of) his feminine good looks, W'in is an extremely masculine young man. Or at least, he tries to be. In truth, he comes off as more defensive than masculine, but he throws himself into every attempt he makes at masculinity. Nobody could possibly ever accuse W'in of being a simpering girly man, and if they tried, they’d likely be taken down by a short, furious blonde torpedo. Though he is aware that violence among Weyrlings, and in the Weyr in general, is disallowed, if he’s goaded well enough, he will snap in spite of his best efforts. And he fights dirty. This boy has been a scrapper from the start, and he’s more likely to look for a fight than he is to try and find the good in someone. Needless to say, he’s bad with newcomers to the Weyr, as they generally make the mistake of either mistaking him for a girl or mistaking him for gay. He does not take kindly to either, and he will hold grudges for as long as he sharding well pleases. That said, W'in is not an unfriendly person. He does tend to come off as somewhat unapproachable when he enters a room, mostly because he tends to put on a strong, commanding air to avoid gender-confusion. He’s the sort to immediately get a group of people paying attention to him solely on force of personality, but he’s ambivalent toward that power. He is a poor planner and prefers to let the ‘real’ responsibility go to those with a natural flair for leadership. Quick to take control, he’s just as quick to relinquish it as soon as someone with better ideas or qualifications comes around. He will lead if he needs to, but he’d much prefer to be below the head honcho, where he can help without having to constantly make split-second decisions. A diligent, hard worker, he responds quickly to authority’s orders and will never refuse a task unless it’s truly ridiculous.
Personal relationships are different for W'in. He’s hard to get to know because of how unapproachable he comes off as, and he has such a low tolerance for idiots that he’ll write people off his list the second they do something even remotely stupid. But he is a generally good-natured boy when the pressure’s off. During one-on-one time with his close friends, he is a joker and a bit of a clown. Cheerful and polite, if slightly patronizing and chauvinistic, toward girls, he isn’t particularly good at attracting female attention—likely because of his appearance. He hates this. He is extremely fond of children, and adores his job in the crèche. He is an amazing storyteller when you can get him to loosen up, and can often be found sitting cross-legged amidst a pile of children, telling tales about Hatchings and Thread.
Other/Talents: W'in is strong for his size and puts a lot of time and effort into maintaining that strength. He has an impeccable sense of direction.

History W'in has led a fairly uneventful life. He was born Weylin, to a female Greenrider and…someone (nobody ever bothered to tell him) and was passed off to a Lower Caverns weaverwoman. Courtesy of the all-so-typical situation, he tended to spend all his time in the crèche. And, like most little weyrbrats, he spent a lot of time underfoot and attempting to cause ruckuses. That all changed when, at seven, he acquired a sudden streak of authority. That was the year his friend Kaskel was promoted into honorary crèche staff and given minor authority over the other children. Weylin happily followed Kaskel, always ready to help his friend. Any help that was needed, Weylin was eager to supply, and anything Kaskel told him, he’d do.
When Weylin was ten and old enough to help instead of simply follow orders, he used his newfound authority gleefully and maybe a little bit overbearingly for a while. But shortly, he realized that once he had managed to get everyone organized in one place, he was really at a loss for what to do next and found himself turning to others for help. As time passed, he grew more into the easy authority, though as other boys grew and turned into men and Weylin seemed to end up looking more like girls than most girls his age, he tended to become resentful and was briefly an object for teasing. When it turned out that the girly little boy was a grumpy little creature who would put trundlebugs in beds and spiderclaws in boots (but somehow always had an alibi that meant he couldn’t have done so), most of the teasing eased up.
Like all weyrbrats, when Weylin came of age he was allowed to Stand at Hatchings, but no dragon ever seemed particularly interested in the boy. That was all right; Weylin was ready and willing to go back to his work. Still happy to work in the creche (and also willing to find possible leaders looking for someone to organize things for them or help them execute their plans), he would show up for clutches when it was necessary, show up for lessons if he had to, and then simply do whatever he was told. He did that right up to the moment he Impressed Toronth and became W'in.
Now...he does what his dragon tells him, instead.

The Dragon Name: Toronth Colour: Blue Font Colour: blue Physical Description: He's stocky for a blue, but generally well put together, and takes great pride in his strength. He does have to sacrifice a bit of speed for it, but he seems to think strength and stamina have the upper hand in the end. He also seems to be of the firm opinion that His should also be in excellent physical condition and isn't above nagging to get his way.
Personality: Blue Toronth has a stubborn streak several dragonlengths wide and Faranth help the poor soul he Impresses to. Toronth is here to make a man out of you and come hell or high water, that's what the blue is going to do.
Nagging isn't the only thing Toronth will resort to. When he's irritated with his rider, he'll be the first to throw him under the bus. After all, a little joke never really got anyone hurt. If he sees fit, Toronth will even get his own rider in trouble. Dragon knows best, after all, and if his rider stops listening, the blue will be sure to get his rider's attention back where it's supposed to be. They have a job to do, and that's fighting Thread. He doesn't see time for breaks or vacations and will protest heavily whenever his rider suggest a break, though there are times when his rider will need to insist or risk being over-worked by slave-driver Toronth.
This isn't to say Toronth is without a sense of humor. In fact, the blue quite enjoys a good practical joke and he's certainly not anti-social. Toronth simply sees the time and place for everything. Priorities are important to him! While he tries to listen to his rider, sometimes he simply can't listen to the nonsense...and sometimes, he just doesn't understand! Slang and idioms often fly right over his head. If his rider told him they were hungry enough to eat a runner, Toronth would be simply astonished a human was capable of such a feat. (And quickly admonish him for thinking about eating a runner, for shame!)
Flights are not high on Toronth's list of Things to Do. Of course, every good male knows how to treat a lady, he just doesn't see the need to rise on a regular basis. Of course, even he can't fight the call of nature, but if given the opportunity, he'd probably decline. He prefers the company of greens as opposed to actually flying them.
Why W'in? Well, it should be quite clear; Toronth certainly thought so! Weylin needs Toronth to make a man out of him! He'd never Impress to someone that didn't have the makings of a good man, Weylin's patience and hard-working attitude really suit Toronth's own slave-driving personality. The fact that Weylin is already trying that hard to be a manly man is just the icing on the cake! With Toronth at his side, people will stop mistaking Weylin for a girl in no time. (In the mean time, Weylin should brace himself for a good butt-kicking.)

The Gypsy Vanner Egg Wingsecond Kem Gypsy Vanner Egg The Gypsy Vanner Egg is nearest the wayward Clydesdale, standing proudly as though it was ignoring its sibling. The egg is also patchy, like the American Paint Egg, though it is larger, closer to average sized. Its patches, however, are black, and much more cleanly cut than the American Paint Egg, giving it a much more distinguished look. Blue Toronth to W'in
The Gypsy Vanner
The Gypsy Vanner (USA), also known as a Gypsy Cob (USA and UK), Coloured Cob (UK), Irish Cob, or "Tinker Horse", is a breed of horse which is usually of Tobiano coloring and has many draft horse characteristics. There is no exact known history of the Gypsy Cob. It is believed that the Gypsy Cobs are descended from a combination of Shires, Clydesdales, Friesians, and Dales Ponies with their origins in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The build is powerful and compact, with a short neck and back. The Gypsy Cob is fairly large, the typical horse measuring between 14 and 17 hands. There is no height limit in the registry. The cannon circumference can range from 8" to 12". The chest is broad with well sprung ribs, the hips are heavy, they have short backs, strong shoulders, and the withers are rounded. The hair should be straight and silky, kinky hair is a fault. Their legs should have heavy bone set on large hooves, their hind legs should not be too straight. Gypsy Cobs must also have excellent endurance, and be able to go long distances without tiring.
Toronado
In The Mask of Zorro, when Diego returns to his home after being imprisoned for twenty years he finds that everything, including the original Toronado is gone. (The novelization states that Toronado probably stayed in the area for as long as possible for love of his master before wandering away.) His successor, Alejandro Murrieta, finds himself his own horse which he names Toronado after the first horse. (The novelization suggests that it may be the son of the earlier Toronado.) It is an intelligent animal but was at first poorly disciplined and seemed to deliberately make life difficult for his would-be master. For example, when preparing to jump from a building onto his horse's back, Alejandro said "I'm warning you. I'll get another horse! Come here estorm.... estupido!" Toronado walked up for his master and then walked a few steps forward so his master fell on the streets when he jumped. In The Legend of Zorro, Toronado alters from obeying to disobeying Alejandro at various times, and it is early on shown that it has trouble understanding the English language.

The Impression soutou Not long after Redhath had claimed his did the American Paint Egg begin to shake. Perhaps the egg was small, but its efforts certainly weren't! Each movement was precise, not the least bit out down. The dragon inside was not frenzied at all, not like its siblings. It was in no hurry, no hurry at all. It bumped into the Kiger Mustang once and stopped its moving for a few moments.
While the American Paint Egg ceased, the other patchy egg began to move. Slightly larger, the Gypsy Vanner Egg moved with much more intention, its movements just as precise as its sibling. And then, with no great show at all, a dark blue broke the shell, struggling for only a moment before he was completely free of the egg. It was then the light patches became obvious; the young dragon was completely breath taking.
He did not make his way towards the candidates and instead, approached the American Paint Egg, slowly weaving his away around eggs. His sibling had resumed methodical movement and the blue sat and waited. And waited. And waited and then, only then, did a nose poke through. And a foot. And another foot. And with one finally smash, a patchy green, much like himself, stepped forth. The pair regarded each other thoughtfully and the blue gave his sister a nudge.
With what could only be called a look of exasperation, she started to move towards the girls, her brother following closely behind. Woe be the soul that tried to move in on his sister. giftwrapped Weylin was of the same mind as he watched the new pair, no sympathy spared for the idiot who got himself mauled for standing between the gorgeous Blue and his rider. The new pair made him smile a little bit; that was good proper respect to show a lady, even if they were both dragons.
All right; the mauling wasn't happening to him, only idiots, and this was exciting now. soutou The green was, in no way, like her siblings before her. She was neither violent nor in a hurry. In fact, the splotchy green made a point to give each and every girl a good look. It wasn't a fleeting glance, it was a true study. She wanted to know each one before she made her final decisions. Her brother seemed to be perfectly fine letting the smaller dragon linger. Well, at least the first time. The second time she began to lap the females, the blue started to make it clear he was getting a little impatient.
Quite some time later, she still hasn't found Hers. Determined not to leave her alone, the Gypsy Vanner nudged the Paint gently before looking towards the boys. She sighed, but she allowed the larger blue to lead her along to the males. She was completely uninterested, but at least her brother was not nearly as meticulous. He gave the candidates a once over, puffing himself up a little as he attempted to make himself bigger. He was looking for His, a real man of a man, he must be-
The blue snorted and stared. Why was a girl standing with the boys? Tipping his head to one side, the blue started to approach Weylin, snorting again as though completely affronted by the idea a girl would stand with the-
Wait.
Waaaaait.
That silly-looking creature was.....
Weylinmine, this is absolutely unacceptable. LOOK AT YOU. You... The blue gave a great sigh. Come here. Your Toronth has a lot of work cut out for him. We wait here until she finds Hers.
Toronth sighed again. ...oh...Mine... He didn't look...like Toronth had imagined. For sure. giftwrapped Well, this pair was honestly darling. Weylin couldn't have fathomed something this sweet in a hatching this angry. But shards and shells, they were pretty and seemed sweet-tempered and...
Weylinmine.
Weylin stared blankly at the stocky blue dragonet as it approached him. Had something just spoken to him?
Weylinmine, stop this nonsense and come here. Let me have a better look at you. Look at you, standing behind those boys. Come here.
"...Of course." And for the first time ever, the motormouth Weyrworker-c**-Candidate was at a loss for words and not angry even in the slightest. And he stepped forward to look at the dragon as the dragon looked at him. Unconsciously, he found himself straightening up even as Toronth made a mental noise that was frighteningly like a tut.
...We'll work on it, Toronth said eventually, then shook his head and snorted. Come all the way over here, Mine, and once she Impresses, you will feed me.
And what else could Weylin do but obey?

Speckle The situations under which he came to W'in are highly suspect (and may or may not have involved W'in proving his masculinity by snogging another man). The story is a long one, and W'in is suffering a chronic case of Doesn't Want To Talk About It.
Speckle is...conspicuous when W'in would prefer not to be. Eye-smartingly bright, he has a personality to match. He absolutely adores people and has a knack for fluttering off to investigate people W'lin would rather not meet or interact with. He steals things, usually food, and has a tendency to simply...disappear, leaving W'in scrambling to find him before he manages to cause something horrible. And he loves causing something horrible. He is, however, extremely friendly and adores just about everyone, so long as they're not actively threatening W'in or Toronth, with whom he seems to be getting along quite well.
