Zii was going to start off to watch the guards do their morning rounds. She was starting to get more and more sad at the fact she wasn't being trained yet. Everyone else was-even the riley red Azar was. She was starting to even get a little jealous. She would never admit to that though-of course. She flicked her white tail around as she walked, close to the ground and trying her best to not be seen by anyone on patrol.

Her golden eyes gazed around as she came closer and closer to the area in which she would soon grow to love. The border. As she neared, her white form went from creeping to bounding, her golden eyes wild and excited. She didn't see anyone, so she was brave enough to go to the very edge of the borders to sniff the well born path of the guards.

She lowered her head and took a deep sniff to see if she could smell any vicious rouges.

She lifted her head with a sigh, at smelling nothing unusual. She sat down, her white tail curling around her equally white paws. She sat primely, the child of the Regents and the cub of the Simo. She stared off into the distance, not daring to ever step over the border even.

Kichomo'damu was HOME. And he'd been trusted to help keep his home safe. Kich felt being made a Guard was a great honor. It wasn't as much fighting as the Soldiers...but Kich didn't mind that at all. He would have rather stayed out of fights that he hadn't chosen. Bad enough he had an insatiable need to meet a challenge when it was posed to him. But...being a Guard fit him better, fit his skills better. His mother had trained him to be as quick and agile as he was strong. And quick and agile was exactly what a Guard was supposed to be.
And alert. A patch of white among the pale tan of the sands caught Kich's attention. As he drew closer, the patch grew into a young lioness...her build showing she was likely one of those born to the pride. And she was just...sitting there. Watching. Curious, and a little worried for the safety of the little one, he approached and made himself known.
"The borders aren't safe for cubs. Not alone. Where's your teacher?"

Zii did not hear the adult coming upon her. She was busy deep in thought. Lately she had been observing some unusual behavior among her fellow Firekin. She hadn't talked to Rowtag in a while and couldn't help but feel a bit sad by it. She had spoken with the elusive Azar'bjian again since their last little spout and was not to pleased with him still. He was still cruel about her coloring.

She startled when the strangers words felled her ears. She lifted her head and turned to look, surprise and fear on her face. Was he a rouge? She guess not, by the red in his fur and the direction he came and his scent. Then what was he doing out here?!

And then it hit her-he must be a guard. She had been caught. Wouldn't Jua be disappointed in her. She stood up, her head lowering slightly. "I was-I was..." She stammered. "I was just watching the guards for a while. I am trying to learn as much as I can from them while they work... cause my Mentor has been to busy to teach me."

Kich blinked. Her mentor was too busy? He tried not to snort. A teacher should never be too busy for their student. "You're growing to be a Guard, yes? Well, you won't learn well just by watching." There was more to it. How to recognize scents, how to spot trouble yards away...How long had her teacher been 'too busy'? "How long has it been since your last lesson, youngling?" Despite his best efforts, a little of his irritation colored his voice. Hopefully, the juvenile wouldn't think it was aimed at her.

Zii looked up at him and made a face to show she was thinking. She then lowered her head. "I don't really think I have had a full session. Just-small little things and stuff...' She said with a shrug, her white tail curling around her back and around like a snake. "I guess... yeah... not much at all...' She said, looking dow n at her paws.

"He is really busy..." she said softly, trying to sound as though she wasn't disappointed.

Great. And had no one noticed the poor young one? Well then...He sighed. "Would you still like to learn, youngling?" Oh....what was he getting himself into? He was no good with kids. No good at all. At least...he didn't think he was. After all, he'd never really DEALT with cubs before. But...the little one couldn't go untrained. That would be...foolish! Especially when she so obviously wanted to learn how to serve her home.

Zii gave him a small smile, her golden eyes brimming with glee. "Yes-of course. I would love too, if you would.... I mean-you don't have too... but... that would be wonderful!" She said, giving a lovely little jump in the sand, spreading little wisps of dust about. She wiggled quietly. waiting for his response.

Oh to be taught how to be a guard. How her mother would be proud, oh how her Father would bless the gods. To be a good guard was her dream, so she could protect her family. That and she had a little bit of a competitive thing going on with her sister Azar, but that was just friendly chlidhood cub stuff. She'd have to outgrow that soon.

Kich couldn't help but chuckle, a deep sound that came from from his chest then his throat. "I do not mind. Why waste such an obvious desire to learn? To serve your home?" He carefully pat her on the head. He was still far larger than her, which is why he would start with things that didn't require sparring or some such. "My name is Kichomo'damu. And, we can start now...or tomorrow. Which would you prefer, little one?

Zii wriggled and squiggled and acted in a such a way to show how excited and enthusiastic. Her golden eyes shined as she pressed herself against his legs, smiling widely. "Oh thank you thank you! I am so excited! My name is Zii'moto!" She said, looking widely up at him with a beaming grin.

"We can start now. I mean, if you want to!" She said, looking a bit shy for a moment before looking back up. "It' doesn't matter Kichomo!"

He had to admit...her enthusiasm was a bit infectious. In a way, the young one reminded him of his ever-enthusiastic mother. "Well then, Zii'moto...let us begin now. But we'll have to start from the very beginning, to make sure we don't miss a thing, hm?" Gods...he was going to have to talk more. What had he gotten himself into? "What is the duty of a Guard?"

Zii tucked her paws under her and lifted her chin to look as proud as she could. She wanted to make a good impression on her 'new' mentor and would do anything to keep her appearance as so. Her white ears pressed against her head as she began to recite all she could remember.

"A guard is to walk the borders and make sure no rouges enter the lands without proper guidance, to makes sure that there are no unusual scents along the lines and to keep them fresh so there is no excuse for any strangers entering our lands!" She said, her golden eyes squeezed shut in a proud smile.

"And guards are sort of like soldiers in a way too. Cause we have to be strong and fit and be able to defend like warriors if need be. "

Good! Basic number one, out of the way. "That's right. But we must also be quick, and at one with the sands. For we are also the ones to alert the Soldiers if there is enough time. We prepare for a fight often enough, but we rarely see fighting outside Dueling potentional rogues." She was a sharp little one. Kich liked Zii already.

"Now...what sort of rogues are we looking for, when the Regents say it is time to let new blood in, to balance out the old?"

Zii pressed a paw to her cheek and sat in though. She imagined what it would be like if she was her mother and was standing before a bunch of rouges wanting to get in. "Well, those only of firekin colors and those with the build of us.... strong and muscular, no little skinny ones..." She said, nodding. "And those with a certain amount of dignity and smarts... and to let new blood in-"

She paused and then smiled. "-to keep the blood lines fresh... so when the future comes to having cubs there will be blood that is not family in the pride... to keep the pride alive and thriving.."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 12, 2009 6:49 pm

"That's right." He sat before her. "I am an example of new blood that came in. I am that proper colors of a Firekin; red, black, and white. And though I do not have quite the size of most born within the pride, I am no small fry." He gave her a small smile. "There are many new that have come in, like me, who have proven themselves worthy. They are strong of mind and of body. We were not born to the pride...but we felt her call nonetheless." Even while he dealt with the torment of loosing his undercoat, he had felt completely at home, and mostly content.

"Now..." He sniffed the air, testing it. "I think it might be best if we wrap up the lesson for today. Tomorrow, we can continue when I am off duty." She had much to catch up on, if he was right, and he would likely teach better while not distracted by his duties. "Meet me by the rock shaped like a claw that's black, rather than the normal pale stone we see." He passed it every day going from the borders to his den. "We'll start lessons in earnest."

Zii lifted her head and stood proudly and happily before him. He was going to teach her then, she succeeded in finding someone to help her with her schooling. She sat with her goddess marked chest puffed out and her eyes glittering, taking in his every word. "Yes..." She said, knowing what rock he spoke of. She had walked past it a few times in her days of sneaking around, trying to follow around the other guards.

She stood up and gave him a small head bow in thanks. "Thank you Kichomo!" She said, turning on her heel and starting off back to the dens-so she could tell her sister about her new adventures.
