((Time frame: After Vinnesh and Zephyr have grown into adulthood, and Clifton and Kaze's eggs have hatched.))  Clifton pawed at the dry, dusty earth atop a cliff not too far from his den, impatient for the arrival for his two brothers. He looked up to notice the sun almost directly above him, with rainclouds threatening to move in. The day was half gone. He hoped that they would show up soon.
Clifton and his brothers had a "play date" so to say. He wanted to spend the day together, and hoped to get some flying in with them. He also had a couple other things he wanted to do with them, but wasn't sure how it would all work out.
He regretted not spending a lot of time with them. He had spent so much of his time looking for a mate, and finally finding her in Kaze, that he had neglected his parents and siblings for far too long. He also missed Elune and Rementh, but he had grown up with them and had spent his foalhood with them. This day was just for the boys. He wanted to be a good big brother to his brothers, even if it was a little late.((Title okay?))

((I'd tap that title. ;o )) Meanwhile, a rather damp and unhappy peacock brother was nearing his destination - Vinesh, the most vain of the lot, was not looking forward to meeting his brothers in his current bedraggled state.
He should have known better - but for the sake of family, V would do anything, really. Meet with his brothers? Okay! Head out even though it was drizzling lightly? Okay! Continue on even though the drizzle turned into a downpour? ... Not really okay, but he'd press on nobly until he outflew the rain (which he did)!
He certainly looked very noble now, as he descended towards Clifton, shivering lightly as he did so.
"Hey, Clifton," he called out, rather glum as he landed with the half-stumble he'd never bothered to correct.
"Go on. Laugh."

And laugh he did indeed. "It seems that you've taken up the family landing." Referring to his own and their father's clumsiness. Clifton chuckled at his brother, his mood instantly lightening with his brother's appearance and landing.
"It's great to see you again. I'm very sorry that I haven't been around very much. I hope to make it up to you and Zeph though." He gave his brother a quick lookover, noting his disheveled appearance.
"And by the way, where is that Zephyr? I'll bet you a field mouse he's off with some female!" He laughed at his own joke, and stepped closer to his younger brother.
The rain that Vinnesh had gotten caught in, soon found it's way to the clifftop. The rain had dissipated and was now merely a drizzle. Clifton soon became damp and his wings and tail became heavier with the water clinging to them.
((HAR HAR HAR I'm not sure if Vin eats meat or not, but I just threw that in there for laughs. XD If you'd like me to change it, I will.
And I hate to ask, but how should I bring in the "preening?" I didn't want to automatically say Vinnesh's tail feathers were in need of grooming without mentioning it to you first.))

((Vin wants to be a real man stallion! He likes the occasional morsel of meat and... bugs. Hates fish. Does not hunt anything larger than a mousedeer.
I think his preening comment can come straight after this post. biggrin ))
Vinesh shook his head. "Naw, don't apologise. Kaze's your mate and you have your own kids now. It's Zeph and me who should have come over more often!"
V was actually rather fond of his two nieces, who he felt were very pretty - and he appreciated pretty things (like himself).
"Zeph's been sneaking off lately, so maybe you're right. In fact, I have no idea whether he's gonna show up." With a somewhat disgruntled "hmph", Vin tossed his head... only to dicover that it was drizzling again.
"Drat this rain. Look, it's ruining our tail feathers!" He wailed.

 Zephyr, however, had opted to glide along the tops of the trees and come in from in front of the rain, sparing himself the damp. He'd left Miltiades at home with Aoibheann and Mayur. He was running late, not because of a fashionably late entrance or some quick tumble with a pretty mare, as he felt sure his brothers suspected, but because he'd wanted to properly introduce his lovely Justice to Aoibheann and Mayur before meeting up with Vinny and Clifton.
"Sorry I'm late. I had something important to do at home. So, what's up?" he asked casually as the first drops of the drizzle hit his feathers. He shook his tail feathers a bit. He wasn't as vain as his brothers, and he'd just found a mare he could love whom he'd introduced to his parents with success and love, so the rain mussing up his tail only slightly dampened his happy mood.

Clifton looked back towards his own tail. "You're right Vin, this rain does cause them to cling together more, but at the same time, it cleans them of the dirt and dust that so often clings to them. Keeping your feathers clean is a vital part of the flying process." He stepped away from his brother, and reached his head back so that he could begin to clean his tail feathers. He nibbled at each long feather, scraping with his teeth to remove any stuck on dirt. He did this in the most delicate manner so as not to strip away the feathers as well.
With his attention given to the task at hand, he hadn't heard his other brother land, and gave a small start when Zephyr spoke. He paused from his cleaning and nodded towards his brother. "Glad you could make it. Would this important business involve a young mare by chance?" He smiled at him to let him know he was only teasing.
Then he glanced over at Vinesh again. "Have you learned how to clean your feathers properly?" he asked him, and then looked to Zephyr as well to show that the question was intended for them both. "As I was just telling Vin, the cleanliness of your tail feathers and wings play a major role in how well your flight goes."

Vinny stood in the rain, blinking at his older brother.
"Clean... my feathers?" Asked the confused stallion. He knew about baths, sure, and general cleaning, yep, but painstakingly cleaning out each and every feather on his tail...
Vinesh turned to inspect his tail. There was quite a large number of feathers, and compared to Clifton's they left much to be desired. It was during this self-inspection that his clutch-brother finally showed up.
"Hey Zeph. Like he said, Clifton's telling me about grooming.
But what does keeping clean have to do with flying?" He asked, turning to Clifton once again.

"Yes, clean your feathers. Removing the dirt from them removes any extra weight that might be added to them. Weight distribution is key to a smooth flight." He resumed his grooming.
He paused to say, "Let's see you two give it a go."

Zephyr paused, startled by the abrupt question from his mated brother. "Yeah. An aririn mare named Justice." He felt self-conscious, so he jumped onto the topic of conversation. "Yeah, I try to clean my feathers at least once a week, more often, if I can manage it, and I don't seem to have problems with flying." He crinkled his soft blue nose. "There's not much worse than a flight pattern disturbed by muddy or dusty feathers, Vinny." He paused to start cleaning his wings to show Clifton that he understood.

Vinesh gave his clutch-brother the evil eye. First he came in late, with the "I had something more important than ya'll" 'tude, next he was all "let's hide possible family progress from my brothers", and then he was all "you suck at flying, V".
"Well 'scuse you. You can take your lecture somewhere else. Clifton's saying the same thing but at least he's not being all "you suck at flying" about it."
Irate, he squirmed to the side and yanked at a tail feather, wanting to pull the dirt off - only to have the whole thing drop out instead.
Vinny watched the feather fall. Time slowed. The rain fell silent. The tassels of the feather waved upwards as it went down. It landed neatly, most un-dramatically, on top of the mud, for all and sundry to see.

"You're very right Zeph. I'm glad you know this already. And congratulations on finding a mare. I'd love to meet her sometime." He chuckled to himself at his brothers' little spat. He continued to clean his feathers, to show a good example, and looked up to see how they were coming along.
The rain had dissipated to a very light drizzle now, and some rays of sunshine even filtered through the clouds. Maybe it would stop altogether and the three of them could take a flight together.
Clifton watched his brothers, and nodded in approval, until he saw Vinnesh pluck one of his tail feathers. He immediately wanted to roll on the ground laughing, but after seeing his shocked face, thought better of it. Instead, he smiled encouragingly, and spoke softly. "Don't worry Vin. That's happened to me before. It stings a bit, but you'll grow new ones back. Feathers fall out and grow back all the time."

Zephyr bit back a sharp retort at Vinny, settling on dignified, albeit affronted, silence, but when Vinny jerked out his own tail feather, Zephyr couldn't help but release a little snort of laughter. He managed to wipe the smile off his face and turn back to Clifton. "I'd definitely be up for introducing everyone to her, including Kaze and your girls," he said with a more solemn smile. "I think she'd appreciate being in a loving family like ours, given that her own family was never really around for her."

Vinesh's cheeks were burning, and they added a lovely rouge to his normally white cheeks. He could sense that both of his brothers badly wanted to laugh, so he forced out a rather uncomfortable one himself.
"Eheh... heh... I guess I was a little too rough.
How about we prove this idea of cleanliness affecting flight with a race? The sun's coming out, it should be clear enough to see where we're going up in the air... and we're all pretty much as good at flying, right?"
V turned to his older brother.
"We'll start here. Pick an end point."
Perhaps if his talent wasn't singing, it could be racing instead!
((IF we're doing a race: do you guys want to modify the battle system to determine order?))

He stood up straight and nodded to his brothers. "We are a great family, aren't we. Loving, colorful, and proud. Made up of all kinds of nutters though." Laughing, he opened his wings and stretched them.
"A flight does sound fun Vin. How about we fly to mom's? That way, I can meet this mysterious Justice, and see mom all at the same time. Plus, we all know where mom's is." He paused to make sure they were both ready.
