Cody watched the houses go by through the window from the back seat, eager to see his friend again. Vinny had called earlier, asking if he wanted to come over and of course the child accepted. So, not long before the designated arrival time, Shadai had packed him into the car with the directions and headed off to the other hybrid's house.
As soon as the car stopped, Cody opened the door and climbed out, stretching a bit. He disliked riding in the car, yet it was bearable by his standards unlike some things... Shutting the door to his mother's light-blue car, he wandered up to the door and knocked and being just like a child of patience, waited with perfect stillness for his friend to answer the door.

Vincent had been sitting on the couch, finishing off a plate of milk and cookies his mother had set out for him. Once he heard a knock at the door, he stood up and walked over to it. He knew who it was, he'd invited Cody over. The humility child had been getting lonely lately--he was still afraid to leave the house. Though, after what 'Zuba had done to him, who could blame him? He was afraid he'd say something wrong and get hit again.
The marks from that mistake were still on his face, though they were fading. His eyes were still an unpleasant purple, the scratches on his cheeks had become red lines.

It would be a lie to say the child was surprised that his friend was so... heavily injured. No, more like shocked and stunned to silence for several long seconds before finally noticing how, even though he himself had grown, Vinny was still taller than him. So, he must have grown as well...
"What happened? No need t' say, curious. And you grew," Cody finally said, waving briefly to his mother and watching her leave for a moment. His gaze returned to Vinny, looking the child over and examining what all had been done to him. To be honest, it looked like Ary had a fit and wailed on him like she often did in the basement gym. The punching bag was rather... worn and looked a lot like Vinny in a way.
"Can come in?" the child asked once his quick examination had been completed to his satisfaction. Now, for the story of what had happened. More importantly, who could have possibly beat up a child he remembered to be rather nice. Hell, why would someone want to beat him up? Vinny didn't seem like the kind to get into fights...

Vinny led his friend inside before deciding how to answer the younger boy's questions. "Uh. Well, I was beat up." He said, stating the obvious. "I called someone bossy, and one of my friends was passing when I said it. So she got mad, and gave me these." He pointed to his eyes. "I don't remember much after that.. I remember waking up on the couch. Mom hurried me to the hospital, though.. Said I had a concussion."
The preteen sighed. "You want a cookie, Cody?" He asked finally. "Mom made some, they're chocolate chip." Vinny really wasn't the type to get into fights--it seemed ironic almost that the first time he'd even dared to say something negative about someone, he'd gotten hurt because of it.

Ah, so that was why his friend was rather messed up looking, but why would someone get mad when all Vinny had said was that he thought someone was bossy? Sounded like a rather poor excuse to beat the snot outta someone and give them a concussion...
"A cookie? No thanks, I'm fine. And you got a concussion? Wow... I'm sorry you had to go through that," Cody replied, rather worried about the pre-teen. Anything hospital related sucked, especially when Ary described it.
"Anyways, anything in particular you want t' do?" he asked, hoping to have some fun with Vinny to take his mind off the rather obvious injuries.

By how Thali had explained it to Vinny, the boy understood it to be hormones. Of course, the preteen didn't know exactly what hormones were. He had figured them to be little monsters that lurked within your head.
"Yeah. Mom says she found me laying on the sidewalk." Vinny said, shaking his head. "I think I might have gotten the concussion from that--but I'd have to have hit the ground pretty hard. I don't remember that at all." He paused, frowning slightly. He seemed to be thinking about Cody's last question.
"Want to play a game?"

Cody couldn't help, but grimace slightly at Vinny's description of what he remembered of the fight, and what he had been told. To be totally honest, what he was saying about the event sounded just as gruesome as he looked. Black eye, scratches and the slight scent of blood hanging around him, yeah, gruesome.
"Game sounds fun. What kind of games do you have?" he asked, glad for a change of subject at last.

Vinny seemed not to notice Cody's grimace, and put a hand to his chin in thought. "Well, we have board games, and video games--" He started, before pausing and looking up. Thali had come into the living room with a plateful of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. She neatly set it on the coffee table in front of the couch.
"I always liked having a snack when my friends came over," the elf explained with a quick smile. As quickly as she had appeared, she left the room.
Vincent made no comment towards his mother, and instead took a cookie from the plate. He took a bite, and smiled. "Go on, try one," He said, looking to Cody. "They're really good. Mom's the best cook on Gaia." Apparently, his humility didn't prevent him from complimenting his mother. "Oh right, games.. Um. Well, I have this one game I haven't been able to beat. It's really hard." He frowned slightly, and handed Cody Super Mario Galaxy for the wii. "I always die."

Once again, the cookies were brought up and tempted him with their sugary goodness. With the bakery shop fiasco with Luska still rather fresh in his mind, Cody vaguely wondered if eating some was truly worth it. Ah, well, one wouldn't hurt, right? The child grabbed a cookie and took a bite, immensely enjoying it.
"Mm, you're right; it is good," he commented with a soft smile before looking over the game he had been handed. It looked easy enough, but he didn't have a wii and wasn't the best at video games; at least, the ones he had anyways. "I can try and help if you want. Not the best though..."
