It was nearing dusk clearly as the sun started to sink lower and lower into the horizon. Ylva really couldn't care less though she had other things on her mind like finding something suitable to take back to her cavern for her and Asa to eat. The hyena had been out all day looking for something to either kill or steal from and had not had luck.

Even the strongest hunter and scavenger has those days and Ylva was having one of em. The hyena was well feed and well built, clearly she ate well. It wasn't her self she was worried about though as much as Asa. He was still healing and needed all the food he could get. Not so much physically but mentally. Ylva hated to admit it but she was worried for her companion. The little b*****d wasn't making much progress mentally.

Ah well. Ylva sniffed about using her nose and ears to the best of her ability looking for even a small mouse to bring back at this point. Night time was fast approaching and Ylva really didn't want to have to kick some asses for a meal. She would though if it came down to it.

The female groaned.

Chane pawed at the small corpse on the ground. He was doing a little better now that he was spending most his time hunting rather then focusing on getting home. Already he'd lost all hope of finding the village again, and that's what was bothering him. Was change really so easy?

Lost in thought he wasn't really even hungry anymore. In the back of his head though he knew that his hunting skills were of the lowest level and the time between now and his next meal was an unknown at best. He pawed at the mouse one last time before bending over to take it in his mouth.

Ylva spotted movement far off... seemed to be a lion of some sort. Way out here? By its self? How... strange. The hyena stayed low and crept a little closer using the tall grass as cover. Easy now... don't want to spook the big fella.

Now only yards away Ylva sank low onto her belly. Just watching the lion with peeked interest. The corpse wasn't really much but it would do for just a day she supposed. The big question now was how to get the lion away from it...

No, she was thinking like some low life thief. That corpse wasn't even really worth plotting over. Ugh, forget it.. Ylva stood up from her hiding spot and turned her back from the lion. How... disgraceful.. Thinking of stealing such a worthless small prey. Hmph.

Chane had a mouthful of mouse when he heard the noise of something moving away. It caught his interest, even if he was still uninterested in food. There was a plethora of animals he couldn't catch out here. Far more then he could remember from his cub days. They were all interesting though, in their own ways.

He tried to guess at what this one would be as he passed through the tall grass. A bird maybe. A bird with a thousand bright colours. He smiled as he imagined it.

Ylva hadn't noticed that the lion had noticed her in the brush. Well not her but was interested in her area of grassy cover. No she was far to busy kicking her self over being stupid right now.

Probably a bad thing to underestimate a lion.

Fortunatly for her, Chane was a lion who could not easily be under estimated. He tiptoed along through the grass, causing a great amount of russling as he went. He peaked out over the golden strands, tentitivly trying to get a glimps at the beautiful and surely mythical being that had caught his attention. When he saw that his goal was only a hyena he quite nearly sighed as he hurridly hid himself again. He was ready to leave when a thought crossed his mind. She might have food.

Distracted from finding home and his mind wandering his stomach was starting to rumble again.

The hyena's ears twitched and she turned around. Was the lion messing with her or something? No one in their right mind made that much noise when stalking. It was something you may expect from a cub but not a wild lion. Ylva shook her head and turned around again acting like she was padding off .

Then she stopped and turned around again hearing the others gurgling stomache.

"You can come out..I don't think you have any reason to hide from a lone hyena..." Her voice was flat and unamused. What was this lion playing her for ?

He hesitated, but then slinked out of hiding. A blind eye, a lame paw, clearly underfed. It was fairly obvious what sorts of fears he'd have towards a lone hyena. When she spoke though, he was more afraid of what might happen if he ran. Despite the fact that she was the smaller of the two she was probably far faster.

"Sorry... I mistook you for... something else..."

The hyena's brows lifted. This had to be one of the single most pathetic lions she'd ever laid eyes on. He looked far worse up close then he had from far away. Her first thought he was sick and dying of illness.

"Something else?" Her voice was a little shakey from the surprise her stalker lion being so pathetic. "What could you mistake me for..?" She cocked her head to the side. Her eyes very much still going over every detail of the lion before her. The hyena couldn't help it. She was shocked.

He shifted uncomfortably, "Where I'm from they told stories about a sort of bird. They were magnificent. I'm afraid... I'm afraid I let my imagination run off on me."

He stared down at the ground, ashamed. Surely it wasn't so hard to tell the difference between a creature that was walking on two legs and one that was walking on four. He just wasn't accustomed to doing it.

The hyena shifted her nose a little at the comment. It... sorta was a compliment. Kinda? Ylva was clearly no bird but she was beautiful. Thats why her boy had kept her for as long as he had. Ylva shut her memories down as fast as they had popped up, No oneed to think about the old days.

"Well... thanks I guess?" She blinked, "If you don't mind me asking. Are you a slave or something? You don't look healthy." Blunt. That was Ylva, no beating around the bush just full head on charge what was on her mind. It sometimes got her in trouble.

"A slave?" the concept was alien to him and he was certainly not familiar with the word. "I'm not," he stuttered a little, "at least I don't think I am. Is a slave someone who's sick?"

Ylva shook her head. Something was off with this one.

"No no.. Just forget I said that, " Sigh, so he was sick... At least Ylva jumped to that conclusion with what she heard come out of his own maw. The hyena frowned.

"So your sick then?" Did he have the pleague? Ylva took a step back for good measure.

He looked rather confused at that. Why bring it up if she was just going to tell him to ignore it? Ah well, he sighed to himself as he tried to remember that. A slave wasn't someone who's sick. Maybe he'd get another chance to find out more later.

He shook his head at her questions, "No... I'm lost." He was starting to wonder if it was such a good idea, being so open about all of this. "I was seperated from my viliage. I was sick when I arrived there... or I think I was. I can't really remember too much from around then."

Ylva tilted her head. A humans lion. Now it all made sense, sorta. He must have come from a village as a pampered pet of some sort or something. Ylva sorta could relate, only, her human had hunted with her and given her the skills she needed to survive. She was aware there were animals not as lucky as her. Namely some of the village dogs. For a long time though Ylva thought she was a type of normal dog. The hyena shook her memories back out of her head. No need to be having flash backs today. No thanks.

"So .. you're lost." Her voice was flat. "Did they chase you out or something?" Clearly this was a creature who did not belong in the wild. Just looking at him made the hyena hurt for him a little. She'd never admitt that though.

"They left the gate open..." he sighed, relaxing a little. This was his first time speaking with someone who really knew what a village was. Everyone else had only given him weird looks. "I was wandering and it grew dark before I realized. The children left the gate open often... I'd always made it home before."

Ylva knew what a gate was but she had only seen such a device used on cattle and sheep. Lions were not cattle, clearly, so she thought it was a little odd. Though, then again, her village did not keep lions around as their own. Just dogs and one confused hyena.

"So .. now your looking for your humans. " Ylva knew what it was like with humans. At first it was hard to get on your paws all the way. It was hard to really fathom what humans did for you until they were gone. She had always woken up to a meal in her village and always had one in the evening. In the wild not everything was set in stone. No, here you never knew what you'd be able to get your paws on.

Looking at this lion it was clear he was pretty much all dependant on that certian meal from his keepers. Ylva frowned more.

He shook his head again, "No. I've been wandering too long now, I don't think I'll ever find my way back."

Besides, being on the move all the time had made it far too dificult for the lion to find food. He'd ended up lost and on the verge of starvation when he'd witnessed a lioness making a fresh kill. She'd shared with him out of pity, but she'd saved his life. From then on he'd focused onhunting. Finding a home, any home, was a secondary priority.

Ylva sighed, she didn't like the sound of him giving up on his village. Honestly, if she had to bet, she bet he wouldn't make it more then two months on his own if he was gonna just survive on small animals. The lion would die.

She had to do something about that. She sighed again.

"Come with me maybe we can find something together to eat," Damn her soft side... but this was something all to close to home base. She had to help.
