Parenthood is a funny thing, the passing of ones genes and being one to pass on your genetics to future generations in a way seeming more important then ones own life at times.
Tulgey however, alone and without a proper example in his own childhood, was ever the Cuckoo bird. Ready to attack and torment any who threatened his offspring or refused to care for them, but taking very little responsibility in teaching his daughter Praetoria and his adoptive 'niece' Kaliska anything other then how to survive, providing them affection only when he was stable enough to trust himself to be near them. He was a stallion, a Tom Cat, no nursery mare or Queen.
Plus, the two were growing swiftly as all healthy filly's do, so there was little he needed to do but occasionally teach them how not to get killed in the territory he was planning on sharing with them.
Which meant, despite being a single father, he was free to do as he wished, and he wished to do a little exploring, Traveling east just south of the mountains, hunting for a scattered fragment of his sanity.

 ((Playing Ali here as a foal; disregard the cert. xd )) Ali was admittedly playing farther from home than she should, but she'd never been into a forest like this one before, and it utterly fascinated her. The trees were so big and grew so close together...and there were so many! The ground was also rougher than she was used to, rocky and littered with protruding tree roots. She took care to step high and neatly, to avoid the tripping hazards Mother Nature had provided the forest. Despite how quiet the forest looked, at least in comparison to the sparsely wooded plains she was accustomed to, there was an intriguing symphony of bird calls, rodent chitterings, and leaf rustlings. A very pleasantly bizarre place, indeed. It was perhaps because of the strangeness of her surroundings in comparison to her home under the branches of a willow, or perhaps because of the even stranger nature of the resident that Ali failed to notice the stallion wandering the forest paths until she bumped into him, having been glancing upward, trying to locate the song of some bird higher up in the canopy. "Ooof! I'm sorry!" she said, twitching her pink nose a bit from the abrupt bump and glancing up at the striped stallion whose mane and tail seemed to twine about him like forest vines.

Tulgey rose an eyebrow, pausing in mid slink -- like the girl he stepped with exacting steps, a lifetime of doing so making his movements more cat then horse. But then, all of the soquili that dared live their lives in such non-horse friendly terrain either learned to walk with purpose, steps high and light, almost dainty with every step, no matter how large, or they perished quickly.
Cocking his head to the side till it was level to the young, jingling mare - if a bit upside down - a large grin formed on what already was a wide grin, "Curiouser and curiouser. What have we here in my forest. A lost little kitten, are we love?

If anything, Ali was relieved to find that the stallion she had bumped into seemed the friendly sort and hadn't taken her momentary carelessness amiss. "Oh, no, not yet, though if I go too much deeper, I might get a little lost." She noted the bizarre accent, and made a note to ask someone else in her family about it later. It would be rude to ask this stallion about his accent. "Is this forest your home?" It occurred to her that this forest almost certainly was his home, and it had been a trifle silly to ask, but it was still fair to check and make sure. "If it is your home, it's a very beautiful and interesting place to live," she said honestly.

"It is" Tulgey mused softly, looking around, "My home wanders on occasion, but this is where I usually reside. You see, I lost part of myself around these areas. Should be nearby that I find it again."
He chuckled, rubbing his side against a tree, "So what does, exactly, bring you here?"

Ali nodded. "Do you need help finding the part of yourself that you lost?" she asked helpfully. "Maybe I can help." She paused at the stallion's question. "I haven't explored the forest yet, and it seems a beautiful place, at least from the outside, and definitely very interesting. It's very different from home, here in the forest."

Tulgey chuckled, bobbling his head slightly as he spoke in his usual soft rich tones, "Its a rare thing to find a bit of it. Especially since I don't know what form they take now." He turned his head to the side, lowering it slightly to the young mare, whispering in a conspiratory manor, "As for these woods, they are enchanted.. However very, very dangerous, poppet."

Ali cocked her head to one side. "Enchanted? How are these woods enchanted? Are the enchantments the good kind or the bad kind?" She hoped the enchantments were of the good kind and not the bad kind, though his words that these words were dangerous definitely implied the bad kind of enchantments. Tossing her head a little to chase away the worries, she pranced a bit closer to the stallion for even the smallest bit of safety his presence might provide.

Chuckling softy, Tulgey winked, "Why, ducky, haven't you noticed how the roots crawl unnaturally across the ground, Frozen in mid squirm up and down, side to side. One can almost swear the tree's themselves move when you don't pay attention. Easy to get lost. Easy to become prey to the animals that live in it."
He tipped his head to the side, listening to the bird-songs, his smile ever present and voice still taking melodious, sing song tones, "One see's things. Hears things. Venture further north and one may find eagles large enough to hunt young Soquili with ease, plucking goats from the mountain sides.. Those who stay long enough pick up a bit of the magic themselves. Why." He chuckled slightly, winking, "Some say I appear and disappear, walking with the shadows of the woods."

Ali listened with golden eyes wide. "I thought I saw them moving, but I've never seen tree roots move." She picked up her blue hooves more carefully. "The birds and the trees sound a little scary, but magic's really interesting. And you'd get used to the dangers, right? So it'd be less likely you'd get hurt?" she asked, curious and a little apprehensive. She was definitely being careful to traipse closer to him now.

"I'm able to travel through the woods quietly and carefully, know the dangers. To me its a lark." Tulgey's grin widened broadly, before reducing down to a simpler, more soothing smile, "However, Its not all dangerous. The mountains are further north -- to your right at the moment. You'd need to be on the cliffs for the Larger eagles to get you."

Ali's golden eyes widened nervously. "Large eagles? G-get me?" Suddenly, this trip into the forest did not sound like a good idea. Besides, it was probably high time she headed home. She shivered. She'd head home in a bit, after exploring this forest with the strange stallion a little longer.
