Moray was sad already. Since they had joined this pride and Nadra gave birth, nothing had gone right. There had been a raid and the queen they had only met once, was now dead. Moray could not help but feel like they carried a curse with them. Their last pride was terrible. The pride before that-worse.
Now Moray could barely keep her eyes open. In fear for the cubs, they had hidden them on the lands. If the males found them, they may kill them! She was worried more so for Nadra. She hated men. They could get to her... and something else frightened Moray into hiding. They were male and she was female, and well... she was in her prime again. The last thing she wanted was to have to give birth to cubs by them! She was horrified by all these happenings but despite her fear, she was hunting for her family.
She was quietly slinking around, desperate to keep away from any male invader. She needed to feed her mate.

Ceres found herself alone, not a state she wanted to stay in. She'd been hiding in the darkest corner of the den, but found the fact that nobody was around more eerie than ever before. Not long ago, it was nice to be alone now and then, have some time to think- but not anymore. Now, it was plain foolish, by her accounts. With the outsiders lurking about with who-knows-what for intentions, Ceres couldn't stand being alone anymore. She ran out of the den, to the edge, and looked around as stealthily as possible. Her eyes spotted a familiar white form- she recognized the girl as someone who had just recently joined- but wasn't with the outsiders at all. She decided to make a beeline to her... Sneaking through the grass and sand as quietly as she could, she approached the white form before speaking.
"Hey!" She padded out from behind a patch of tall grass. "I don't think we've ever talked, I'm Ceres... Mind if I hang out with you for a bit?" She asked with a sheepish grin, ears dipping back a bit. "I don't want to impose or anything, but..." It was common knowledge that there was a threat about.

Moray was a bit gloomy. She couldn't help it. With her two cubs with their mother, she felt a bit calmer but the odds of seeing one of the rouge males was a good one. Her white ears caught a sound, not one of prey but one of a small voice. She turned to see the red girl cub, She smiled, stepping aside so that the girl could walk comfortably beside her.
She knew it was a shame she hadn't known many of the pride members before the raid-but Nadra went into labor quick and Moray hadn't left her side. Not many knew about her new family. Not even the late queen.
"Of course dear!" She said softly. "I don't mind at all. I wouldn't mind the company. I'm Moray..."

"Thanks, Moray, it's nice to meet you!" Ceres said with genuine gratefulness. She was surprised to see that not only herself, but Moray were both able to get a few moment's peace away from those dictatorial outsiders- it was a true blessing, as far as the red lioness was concerned.
"So how have you been? Ignoring the..." the lioness lowered her voice so that no invaders would hear, "ignoring the poor circumstances?" She had little idea of how to cope with all of this- perhaps the adult's response could somehow point her down some track as to what to do... Or how much hope the pride as a whole had.
Or... maybe she could come to trust Moray enough to ask if it was normal for a girl to have visions... Her mind turned to that troubling thought. She'd had a vision of her mother's death after the males had take over, and the idea that she had had it was enough to make her wonder what was up with herself... Another difficult layer added to the situation.

Moray dipped her head in thanks to the young lioness. She lifted her head and with a the proudest stance any mother could get-gave the young lady a gleeful look. "My mate and I have kept our two babies hidden and safe. Though Lulu is getting more and more defiant and giving us a tough time in hiding her and her brother."
She sighed and lifted her head to keep an eye out for any males. She herself had a hidden fear of the males. "And I for one have not been seen by a male yet... I plan on keeping it that way..." She said softly. She then looked down to the red lioness. "How have you been fairing. I know this-has been a tough time... If you need somewhere to stay for a bit in secret, Nadra will not mind. And Lulu would be more than happy to play!"

"Wow, that's awesome that you guys haven't been spotted yet." She threw a glance over her shoulder. She had been seen by the males. Her bright red pelt didn't help, and it seemed to tie her to the pride's royal line, making her a target of interest for the invaders. "I hope I don't bring attention to your family..." Though it didn't seem like she was being followed at the moment. That was a relief.
"I've been doing... Alright, I guess. All things considered." She was just beginning to get over the overwhelming-ness of it all. The offer that the light female made, though.... Was unavoidable. The answer was going to be yes, the lioness craved some company. "If it's fine by you, I'd be happy to! But I don't want to be a burden," the lioness said, giving Moray a way out if she changed her mind. Ceres had made up her mind- she would NOT impose on anyone if she wasn't wanted, especially not with all of these males around.

Moray smiled. "Well, lets just say that... we are very very careful with what we do. If any of those males found our son... they'd corrupt him." She said, looking worriful. She glanced over her shoulder as well... just to be safe.
"We would be more than happy... With the cubs only to themselves, they get rather upset about it.. And Nadra as well.. we wouldn't mind at all." She said, smiling. "The only burden to this pride is those stinking males..."
LIttle did moray know, that soon upon bringing home the red lioness, Lulu would be taken away by one of the raiding males.

While Ceres wasn't looking forward to being around another male, she supposed he was probably the best there would be in this pride, at the moment. He'd been raised proper, no doubt. She'd tolerate that. "Makes sense. These males are..." a single glace over her shoulder again- she was getting good at that. "terrible, and rotten. Each and every one of them." There was obvious malice in the young lioness' voice, for good reason. "If you're sure, I'd love to hang out for a while with Lulu!" Ceres said, turning her emotions around quick, ears perked up. She couldn't let herself be weighed down by these males. That'd be just another way of giving in. As much as she could, the lioness tried to keep up her normal life, even in their presence.

Moray smiled. "Of course. Lulu would appreciate someone of her same gender to play with. Shai is a boy after all and has boyish games so I think she'd really enjoy some girl time!" She said, looking down at the little red lioness with a soft gaze. Being that Moray was a Midwife, cubs were her life so she'd do anything for them no matter what!
"Our den is very hidden... no males know where it is... though that may soon end... the way they stalk around and sniff around like rats... its disgusting!" She said bitterly.

"I wouldn't mind having someone outside of my sisters to play with!" she said cheerily. "Nothing against my sisters, but a little variety would be much appreciated." Ceres said. She knew Lulu by face, and had seen her around when the pride's cubs were being "sitted," but her time had been primarily monopolized by her sisters. "Well, it's good that it's safe for now," Ceres said genuinely as she padded alongside the older lioness. "I don't like them, either. they brought along those stupid hyenas, too. I don't mind hyenas, either, but these ones act as if they have no free will- no mind of their own. They just do whatever the stinky males say to do, that's annoying too... It makes it hard to do anything around the males but to do what they say..."
After all, at her current size, a hyena could easily kill her, a fate she certainly didn't want.

Moray felt pride for this little lady. She was strong and would be an amazing young lady some day. She chuckled, looking down at her. "I hadn't ever seen a hyena before until they came... They are strange creatures indeed, so stout and... strange." She said simply, imaging them in her head. "I just wish things were like what they used to be... for the sake of the cubs."
She looked over at the red female. "Yes... we must do as they wish... only now... because someday they will get their just deserts... karma comes around and karma doesn't like to wait.!"

Ceres always gained strength from her other pridemembers- hope. If they could feel hope, then she certainly could- they would rally someday, and they would be the end of these retched creatures. Or, at the very least, they would chase them out and make them remember to never mess with the Antianeira. It was a mistake, and Din would never forgive any of the lowlifes who had come in and aided a paw in the death of her mother....
That vision would come back time and time again, in the night... She pushed that aside again, though. No- she would not see it again.
"I remember how things used to be, it wasn't toooo long ago!" Ceres said. She may have been a cub while the outsiders invaded, but she had been around long enough to remember normal times. She would see them again.

Moray sighed. 'It feels like forever ago... When me and Nadra came hoping for peace for our family and safety. I feel home here though, your mother made sure of that! She gave us hope and always will, no matter what." She said, looking down to Ceres. "I know you probably know that... but she will always hold us females together..." She looked back up. "I came from a place that was horrible and everyone was cruel... and the father to my cubs did not acknowledge them and had even cubnapped one as a baby and raised him to be a monster..."
She felt sadness welling in her chest. "And before that pride, I could not be with Nadra... because she was not of my ranking and she was older..."

Ceres actually started getting misty-eyed at the talk of her mother. To hear someone other than those related to Kiuma talk about her in a good light was always more meaningful to Ceres... She missed her mother, but that she would always be there in one way or another was so consoling. After all, she knew the circle of life, but it just made it all seem more real. "I'm glad that you think that way," she said, voice cracking just a bit before she regained her composure more. She continued to listen as she walked.
"That sounds just terrible!" the red cub said as she followed alongside. Why, it sounded like it could match the terrible situation they were all in these troubled days of the pride.

Moray nodded. She didn't like to think about her past prides, especially the one with all her family still in it, she was a failure to her prides... but not this one. She would regain her 'Toh' and make her ancestors proud. She would. "I am sorry I did not get to know her better, she offered us a life with our children... I will forever be grateful!"
She looked down to Ceres. "It was terrible but times are not so bad here... our cubs are together, we are together and so far we are well fed and content, we can put up with their crap for a little while... and soon we will be able to take our revenge!" She said, spotting their densite up ahead!
