“Of course, Mother. I won’t fail you; the dragon will die by my hand. My brothers know what will happen if they interfere.” The Drow woman heard the men behind her shiver; their sister was cruel, even for a Drow’s standards. Her grey eyes watched the woman seated in a throne-like chair, the Matron mother of the house. She was the queen of the household, as long as she wasn’t killed by a daughter who sought the position. She was older than the one who had spoken, just the faintest signs of aging on her face and hands.
The room was filled, men arranged according to rank, the females before them. All were older than the one who stood before the Matron Mother. All watched expectantly, eager for the hunt to begin. They were eager to regain the goddess’s favor, to see more blood shed. And eager to see how the girl did, one who hadn’t even begun her training as a priestess yet. She fought better than the weapon’s master and was as stealthy as any Drow assassin, and she was as devious as the oldest of the Matron Mothers. She would be a threat to the Matron, once she gained the rank of high priestess. Hundreds of dark elven eyes were fixed on the two Drow, mother and daughter, as the Matron Mother spoke.
“Go, my daughter. Bring me their matron's heart,” the Matron said with a cold smile, entrusting her youngest daughter with the task of killing the leader of an enemy house. Trusting her with securing the goddess’s favor in their House. With gaining revenge on the one who slaughtered nearly half of her forces, and five of her eight daughters. Five irreplaceable priestesses killed doing their duty. They had done as Lloth demanded and were murdered. It called for retribution, and Lloth’s task had to be carried out.
The daughter stepped forward, accepting the dagger from her mother. She fastened the sheath on her belt at her hip, her own smile matching that of her mother. “I’ll bring you the her heart on a platter,” she promised.

The Story... Everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet. Feuding houses, starcrossed lovers, 14 year old girl falling head over heels for her family's sworn enemy, lovers killing themselves because the other is dead. But you've never seen it quite like this... Within the caverns hidden inside a cliff on the surfaceworld, the three ruling Houses of the Drow city Maerimydra are at war with each other. Of the ten Houses, the Three are the most powerful, strongest, and largest Houses. Their Matron Mother's rule both their houses and the city with an iron fist. But that will soon change... Drow don't fall in love. Not typically, anyway. Especially not the women who will one day kill their mothers for the positions of power. Or, if they do somehow unfreeze their hearts, they don't make it common knowledge. A love can easily be used against you, after all. But what if the Drow of the three feuding Houses somehow did? What if they fell in love with their enemies? Would they try to stop the fighting? Would they die in an overly dramatic fashion, like Romeo and Juliet did? Would they flee to the surface or elsewhere in the city? Or would they find another option...? Maybe we should find out.

The Drow... The Drow, or Dark Elves, are cruel, heartless, and merciless. They do not like bunnies and flowers and hearts and rainbows, and they don't care about killing. They can easily kill their kin for a higher position. They see nothing wrong with assassinations, so long as you don't get caught. It isn't unusual for two houses to fight, or for one to destroy another so that it might rise in the social hierarchy. It also isn't uncommon to kidnap or hold hostage/prisoner a Drow who was somewhere they shouldn't have been. Also, torture is a fairly common past time.
Each city consists of the major Houses. These are like the nobles of a kingdom. Each House has one family with the House's name as their surname. Working for the house are the commoners and the men-at-arms. Nearly half of the Drow population of the city is made of members of the House who are not part of the Family. They number enough that each House has a small army at it's disposal.
The Drow are matriarchal, meaning that the women are in charge. Each house is run by a Matron Mother, usually the eldest female of the family. But she has to watch out, for her daughters most likely will kill her for her position.
Any women who is of a House family becomes a priestesses of Lloth, the Spider Queen. She cannot be anything except a priestess. A House is often measured by the number of priestesses and warriors within the walls. Only the 'common' women may become something else, though they rarely choose to. After all, becoming a priestess will allow you to advance farther than becoming something else.
Men, on the other hand, are either fighters or sorcerers. Rarely are they both. The Drow are known for their fighting, and their skills far outmatch any other race.
All Drow have several innate abilities. They have Darkvision, meaning they see in infrared vision (see heat, like a snake does) as well as normally. They also can summon globes of darkness, which are impenetrable. They can summon faerie fire, which is a harmless flame in either blue, purple, or occasionally pink. They can line a person in it, and still see where they are when the person goes invisible. Or it's used to decorate the Houses.
Finally, some Drow can manipulate the elements. The only known elements are fire, earth, air/wind, water, light, and darkness/shadow. Also, no Drow has ever been known to be able to control more than three. Only the most powerful could control three, and there are few today who can control that many. Most can only handle one, possible two.

The Rules... 1. Myself and ShadowLadyRaven are supreme overlords of this rp. What we say goes. If we tell you that your character should start clucking like a chicken, do it. XP 2. Drow. Are. Not. Whimps. Or. Sweet. Or Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should not hate fighting and mindless slaughter. There will be no Drizzts or Liriels or ANY "GOOD" DROW! They are allowed to slowly mellow over time. 3. Play nice. No killing other characters, no matter how badly your character wants to. 4. No godmodding. Or cybering. Or else we will feed you to the monsters hiding under your bed. We will. Promise. ^-^ 5. Please, for the love of god, have a bit of common sense. Don't purposely annoy anyone. It will not go over well. Don't do something if you're not sure how it will be taken. Your character can act however you want, but YOU, in ooc or pms or anything, cannot be an a** to other people. Seriously, it's just rude and that ruins the whole rp. 6. Pm your profile to myself or ShadowLadyRaven. Title it "Beware the Shadows". Do not title questions that, or else I will not be amused. Don't do it. Ever! 7. Have fun with this. We don't ask too much, just follow these rules and have fun with your characters. 8. 1st offense: Warning. 2nd: Another warning and your name on the 'Exile Electees' list. 3rd: You're out. And if you keep posting, your posts will be deleted. 9. There is a limit of 3 characters per person, with the exception of myself and ShadowLadyRaven. The only reason we will have more than 3 is to make a character so you will have someone to rp with, if there is no one with a similar position or if they aren't able to rp with you due to the circumstances. We (probably) won't abuse this. We won't have more than 6. Hopefully. O.o 10. When writing profiles, can you please include something in the bio. It can be short, but it's nice to get an idea of a character before hand. Believe me, I understand how difficult it can be doing so, but please do so. 11. We (ShadowLadyRaven and myself), and only we, have the right to ignore, rewrite, change, remove, add to, or cause these rules to spontaneously combust into famulous black flames or melt into a lovely rainbow-colored puddle of amazingness and excellency.
