SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT RUIN THE EXPERIENCE!
Seriously, you can come back to this thread later, ok? Just bookmark it or something, or you'll read something you'll regret...And we all know you don't want spoilers for a Tamora Pierce book, yeah? That would be a terrible experience, and you know we would shun you for eternity >:U Okay...here is the deal. I must know if anyone hates (Dale) as much as me. I prefer (Rosto). (Haha, just in case you couldn't help taking a peek!) .....And, mind you, I am prepared to debate my brains out on this matter >:] Anyway, we need a discussion, so let us begin!
Tell me
1) Best event in the plot
2) Worst event in the plot
3) Best character/quote
4) Was it better than Terrier?

1) I loved how Beka hobbled the true colemonger. It was touching just reading about how Lord Gershom paid a fortune for her to be healed afterwards. But I think the best is when she tells off Sir Lionel.

2) I wanted more Rosto! The book gave Dale too much attention. I thought he was great during the Bread riot, but I tired of that flirt quickly. I also missed Tunstall, but I get the feeling we'll see a lot more of him in Mastiff. He is her new partner after all.

3) The best new character was....Pearl. Believe it or not, I really enjoyed the scenes with her. The chase was pretty good, and I really liked when Beka fooled her and got to hide out in the court of the Rogue. So crafty, Beka reminded me of her descendant Aly. Pearl was rotten and despicable, but I liked what Tamora did with her character.

The best quote was at the end, or at least to me. Beka to Ersken: "You look as scary as a buttered muffin."

4) I liked this better than Terrier. It was...sneakier. It kind of reminded me of the Trickster series, but more butt-kicking, triumphant glory. There was definitely more romance, but not the pairing I was anticipating. At least Bloodhound, in a strange way, solidified my faith in Beka's relationship with Rosto.

Alan the Great

1) Best event in the plot.
I personally liked when Beka was hiding out in Pearl's own place after she had implied that she was the one making the coles.

2) Worst event in the plot.
Dale.

3) Best character/quote.
I also loved Pearl. Too bad she was an a**.
"You're both so adorable I feel a hair ball coming up," -Pounce

4) Was it better than Terrier.
I wouldn't say it was better or worse because I can't make my mind up about that. It definitely did portray a big development in Beka though. She became more confident and brave. She got over her shyness in a large part. =]

PANDA reading a BOOK

) Best event in the plot
I loved it when Beka was fooling Pearl. And when she hobbled the colemonger. Also I loved it when she was telling off Sir Lionel, and Silsbee, and when Tunstall cussed out the guys that broke his legs.
2) Worst event in the plot
Not enough Rosto!! He is awesome, I mean Dale is cool and all, but Rosto is the best. And Tunstall, I need more of him too.
3) Best character/quote
Pearl is cool, for all her being an a** and colemonger. And Achoo, scent hound rules!!!
Best quote... "Scummer, pox, and wound rot! Gods curse the pig-tarsed mammering craven currish beef-witted bum-licking gut-gripping louts that did this to me! May every flea, leech, and hookworm in all creation find and feast on them!" -Tunstall
"I am not a god. I am a constellation. it isn't the same thing."- Pounce
"I forgot my purse of laughter when I dressed this mornin'." -N/A
4) Was it better than Terrier?
No. it was good, and I love it!!! But, Terrier is better.

Queen of the Rouge
1) Best event in the plot
I liked when she hid out at the court of the Rogue because it was prettty funny.

2) Worst event in the plot
Beka falling for Dale and not enough Rosto.
3) Best character/quote
I liked Pearl a bit. Not going to become an all time favorite.
I love what Ersken tells Beka about Rosto when he found out about Dale.
"Rosto's heard you made a good, um, friend here. He's as mad as a bear with a thorn in his...paw." I just love that quote and my friend made a fanfic describing that moment!
4) Was it better than Terrier?

No Way! Terrier was better in my opinion. I thought most of the characters were OOC a good bit. So until Mastiff Terrier is my favorite.

LadyKnightKel
1) Best event in the plot:
I loved Beka standing up to that idiot of a dupty provest. Gah! He was such an idiot and a disgrace to Lady Alanna's name and family! (Though she wasn't alive yet.)
2) Worst event in the plot:
Did anyone else miss the lovely little Rosto? I mean really? Dale was cute and all but I knew he was gonna either run or be part of it/killed.
3) Best character/quote
Okay, so I know he started it all but Hanse was pretty cool. I loved him yelling at Beka. I was sad when he died. (Twice!)
4) Was it better than Terrier?
This is hard. I liked both a lot. I think I liked Terrier more cause of Rosto but I liked Bloodhound cause Beka isn't all 100% great in the book. Makes her more real to me.

Suta_Hisui

1) Best event in the plot
When Becka left the child-thieves with the city people. It appealed to my sense of vengeance. . Oh, and Achoo. Suta love's Achoo.

2) Worst event in the plot
... Actually, I didn't think Dale was too bad. I mean, I love Rosto and I REALLY wish there would have been more of him, but Dale had his good points. The worst for me was Pearl's reason for colemongering. Terrier's plot was so complex, and compared to it this was a tad simple. I just like a smarter villain.

3) Best character/quote
Tunstall's curse.

4) Was it better than Terrier?
It was good, but in a different way. Plot-wise, no. Character-building wise, OH yea.

Lady Adagio

M'kay, so the best plot point in Bloodhound? Nothing. There were no good plot points in Bloodhound for me, except maybe Beka constantly comparing Rowan to Rosto. I loved that part, though I was more than put off by her saying that she didn't want to be with Rosto. That bothers me. Obviously, you can tell that I'm a Rosto fangirl. He's my favorite character. Ever. The worst plot point(s)/event(s), was the romance with Dale, and the horrible lack of Rosto-y goodness. I was sorely disappointed by both of those, and not only because she knew Rowan for two weeks and then she was in bed with him. And he treated her like she was a toy that he could just disregard at the end. I absolutely abhor Rowan. And there was NO ROSTO! I about cried at the end when Rowan was innocent and there was no closure with Rosto. I wanted Rowan to die a horrible, painful, bloody death. And yeah, I know I'm amazingly cruel and morbid just in saying that, but I absolutely HATE Dale Rowan. The best character? Easily Rosto. Best new character? Achoo. She was awesome. My favorite quote, though, is easy - page 469, near the bottom of the page, said by Ersken: "Rosto's heard you made a good, um, friend here. He's as mad as a bear with a thorn in his...paw." And actually, the oneshot that was linked in Queen-of-the-Rogue's post on the last page is mine. I wrote that and a couple of other missing moments centering around Rosto. I'm glad to hear that more of you like it. I loved writing Mad As A Bear With A Thorn In His Paw, and one I wrote that's set just after the end of Bloodhound called Immaterial. Then again, I love Rosto, so I'm biased. As for it being better than Terrier, I have to say no. No, no, no. Bloodhound bothered me a great deal, particularly Pearl, who was so obviously the villain from the beginning - it was so predictable that it annoyed me - and Nestor and Ohka, or whatever his name is. As characters, they were okay, but I don't understand the need to put a slash pairing into those books. I found that rather offensive, really. And Beka! I won't even get started on her! There were very few characters who seemed to retain their characterization from Terrier, in my opinion, and Rosto and Aniki seemed to be the only ones who did. And I just don't like the fact that Beka went from an intelligent, sensible sixteen-year-old, to a rather airheaded seventeen-year-old, when I'm seventeen, and I have more sense than she did. But in the end, my verdict is this: The fanfiction version by Lady Wolf was better. It actually had Rosto, the plot wasn't see-through and really had more to it, it was more like Beka to me, and there was no uber obnoxious Dale Rowan. If Tammy doesn't redeem herself with Mastiff, I'm done.

R0KI
~In the end, I have no major issue with Dale, but I prefer Rosto. (A comparison would be: I like Liam with Alanna, but she's better with George.)
~Honestly, these aren't my favorite books. Maybe I've just grown attached to Alanna, Daine, Johnathan, etc, but I can't really get hyped up over these characters (with the exception of Rosto).
~I am happy that we'll see more of Tunstall in the next book.

I'm sorry that the thread had to be re-made and moved.

Let's just start talking about it all over again.

One thing I wondered about is why Tamora Pierce didn't add a confrontation between Rosto and Beka at the end. I mean, Ersken did say he was miffed she was with someone else.

I agree. I also had kind of hoped that he might try and convince her to move into the Dove but that's probably wishful thinking on my part. They needed a bit of closure about what happened in Caynn. She had it with the Lord Provost, Tunstalll, and Goodwin, along with others so why not Rosto?

Maybe a question for the letter?

I can't wait until the next book.

I just have to see what happens between Rosto and Beka.

Yes, I was looking forward to Rosto being smug to hear Dale dumped her. I mean, he was at the party at the end, right? And he didn't say anything worth writing in the journal? On the other hand, I'll have to reread the book to decide whether I liked Dale or not, though. I was too busy concentrating on whether or not he was the colemonger... But either way, I think he was an important stage of development for Beka. If she decides to go with Rosto, I think it will be all the better for her after her experience with Dale. In that way I have to agree with magical marker: "Bloodhound, in a strange way, solidified my faith in Beka's relationship with Rosto."

1) I liked the followers. That was well done, that Beka's past and subsequent feelings for her followers ended up helping her catch the colemonger. And the Black God Priestess disguise was perfect.
2) I missed Aniki and Kora and Rosto. And Tunstall and Erksen. All the good old original characters.
3) Okha is my favorite, by far. That’s another scene I liked for some reason, when he started dabbing make-up on Beka.
My quotes are in memory of poor Slapper:
“Beka, there’s a demon bird a-glarin’ at me.” –Phil, page 46
“Finally the crackbrained beast plopped onto my lap and relieved itself of a walnut-sized dollop of dung. Goodwin laughed so hard that she wept.” –page 164
And, of course, I love the scary as a buttered muffin quote. <3
4) I shall overlook this one, seeing as I have issues with trying to pick favorites from two good options.

Spoiler alert:

Yeah, Magical might be on to something. If you take Alanna and use her as an example, she went through a few men before she decided to go to George. (I hope you read the Alanna books sweatdrop )
Liam was Alanna's Dale. She was flirting with the idea of George (a bit more than that, really) then met Liam and was taught what she was missing.

This is Beka's case. She was flirting with the idea of Rosto then met Dale. maybe now she'll see what in front of her face.

Yeah, Tamora probably had a similar personal experience, to have that situation twice. But then, I don't know many girls who don't go through more than a couple guys in their lifetime. xD

However, her being with Rosto may never work out. As compatible as they are otherwise, Beka can't turn a blind eye to him murdering. She could ignore him if he was only a petty criminal, but he's a murderer and the Rogue. Otherwise, I want them together just as much as everyone else.

Tammy did play the jerk-card and told us not to get our hopes up about Rosto and Beka being together. T.T

She's probably teasing us.

Precisely.

I myself have already done a fic over the two of them

Yes, those were my thoughts. I was thinking about that, and realized that I still don't like Dale even though I really like Liam. While Liam was a bit of a flirt, Dale was not half as genuine. He was a a bigger flirt and a gambler. His only heroic act was helping townsfolk escape during the riot.
Liam died a hero, and he knew when to call off his relationship with Alanna. She knew, too. They were good friends toward the end, I believe. They both learned from each other, whereas Dale was looking for action and stole Beka's heart - not to mention he ruined Beka's cool, independent nature that I loved from Terrier. Dale turned Beka into a silly, giddy, little girl sometimes. I was so disappointed with her, but I suppose she is all the more human.
Isn't it also weird how Liam and Dale had a connection to the Shang?
Liam being the Shang Dragon, and Dale having learned the kick from a warrior.
