The mornings had come and gone a while now. He'd been with Chiv and Merril a few days and things were going very well. He cherished his new friendship very much and was in love with how his life was headed. They were headed to a new pack. A pack that might let them live within their community and treat them kindly. Hope had settled very heavily in his chest and he was happy for the first time in a long time.
It was in the morning when he woke again. They'd found another cave to reside in and he'd been sleeping nearest the entrance. He was used to the caves yet. He wasn't much of an 'indoor' animal. But, he accepted the style the other two were bred with.
He stood and blinked away the sleep that had taken him so quickly the night before all this tracking had worn him out but, now he was ready for another day. He gazes at the sun that had woken him with a goofy grin and then trots a bit away, There was a small river passing by where they'd slept and boy was he thirsty!

Chivosi shifted in her sleep as Menelaus left the cave, ear's flicking as she awoke blinking sleep laden eyes to the sight of the male trotting off - in the morning mist he looked nearly ghostly and Chiv chuckled slightly at the thought, a chuckle that was quickly taken up with a yawn.
Glancing about she saw Merril still curled into a tight ball and fast asleep her bright coat stood out even in the caves low light and Chiv slipped out quietly so as not to disturb her. Stretching as she came into the morning light the tri-colored female was of much the same mind as Mene and following her nose, headed off towards the river.

Getting to the rovers side he paused and inhaled deeply. He was a wolf of the waters, loving it's scent its power to relieve and the fact that it offered food as it did a source of liquid. He could live off it if he had to and often he tried. he was no good at fishing, his paws weren't built for it and his jaws, as fast as they were, just didn't seem fast enough. He had luck a few times though and enjoyed every bit of meat he could get between the scale and bones.
After inhaling he stretched, he was in relax mode and his body could tell. he yawned as he stretched and finished with a glint in his eye and a wag of his tail. Signs of a real happy wolf. His life felt complete, like he had it all! Shaking free of his dreamy sort of state he sniffed lightly. Chiv was awake. He gave a brief smile and didn't bother turning around. He knew she was headed this way. Thus was a pattern they'd seem to have gather.
"Morning Chiv." His tail wagged again briefly and he dips his head to the glassy surface of the gently moving water to get a drink.

Chiv chuckled slightly stepping out from behind the bush where she'd been crouching - everyday she attempted to startle the grey wolf at some point, and everyday he caught her far before she had the chance. It was a game the two had settled into silently - neither had really mentioned it and yet somehow it'd become part of their daily routine. They had settled into an easy friendship and Chiv was ever so glad she'd chosen to take that morning walk all those long days ago.
"Hmph...you always know I'm there"
She gave him a mock sulky look as she glided up beside him, and in purely playful fashion planted one paw somewhat harder into the water beside his drinking nose sending a splash of water at him before lolling her tongue out in a wolfish grin. He hadn't expected that now had he?

Oh how he loved teh mornings. Seeing her and being able to be himself. He was naturally puppy-ish and thus playful by nature. So he enjoyed their games, it made him love being alive. Menelaus continued his drink while thinking about it. He could already visualize her 'pouting' muzzle and it made him smile.
"One day.. maybe you'll catch me." He gave a silent laugh and his tail wagged. He had an advantage every morning as they went through their routine. His eye sight was no where near great so he was gifted with a more powerful sense of smell and hearing. It wasn't to much beyond normal but, it gave him that little bit.
He'd stopped paying attention. Bad move on his part he realized as water spout from where Chiv had slammed her paw and covered his face. He stared down a moment blinking a few times getting rid of the water in his eye's and then he stared up at her not moving his nose from the water. "So you wanna play, hm?" He asked. His muzzle peeling into a lovely wolf grin and his tail began wagging slightly.

Chiv gave him a smug look - rather pleased with herself for having caught him off guard. Sure others might think their games a bit childish but Chiv had long ago given up caring about such things I mean why bother living if you didn't enjoy yourself right?She widened her eyes in mock innocence at his question tail flagging.
"play? why I'm quite sure I have no idea what your talking about Mene dear..."
she stated pretending for the moment to be wise and mature, a ruse she knew he would probably see though - but hey maybe she'd get lucky and she'd catch him off guard twice...in one day. It would be unheard of.

Menelaus knew his mind had to work far clearer then it had just moments ago, faster and so he kept his nose down and looked to the water, his eye's sad and he began pouting. He of course knew she was joking, he saw to her 'funny' bone deep within and nearly laughed out loud but, he had a strong mind and just sighed. "I guess if that's what you want.." His voice was small and sad and filled with a sigh after each word. He was smirking in his mind, waiting for a leap, waiting for another splash. He ahd a feeling he'd be getting a lot more wet then he already was.

Chiv had to stop herself from wagging her tail - that would most definitely give her away long before she had the chance to get him.
"of course thats what I want..."
she agreed, slowly lowering her head to the water and taking a sip before suddenly raising her head and peering off over his back towards the woods.
"Did you hear that? i think it's a rabbit.."
She stated attempting to sound as convincing as possible.

He nearly burst out laughing. He hadn't explained to her how his ears are and thus she didn't know he knew she was lying. "Yes. I heard it!" he whispered lifting his muzzle and turning to the woods. He stared into the trees trying to see the 'rabbit'. His tail was raised and body at the ready to charge. He glanced over at Chiv and smiled. "Whats the game plan?" He asked her.

Chiv continued to stare into the woods..waiting..waiting, ah there it was, when Mene turned his head to look back into the woods as well Chiv silently pounced. she was in mid-air when he turned back to ask his question...a maniacal puppy like look on her face as she tried to bowl him over into the water. Well drat...he was going to see her coming, oh well maybe he'd still be startled enough to fall - since he was the larger of the two she rarely managed to bowl him over unless she got lucky.
Oh what would Merril think if she saw her two traveling companions now? she's probably think they were both insane Chiv thought to herself with a grin.

Menelaus, in that few seconds of her realizing he may have been paying attention, gave a very brief but, very manic smile of his own. His eye's narrowed and he steadied his stance. "Today is not your day." He stated happily and as she came down on him he threw himself backwards and both of them tumbled into the water. he didn't mind so much, he was just happy to be on top. As soon as his back met her and she met the ground he rolled off, he didn't wanna pin her without room to breathe and he didn't wanna crush her!

Chiv had time for only one thought as Mene met her look with a brief one of his own. Uh -oh..was pretty much the only thing that came to mind. But their wasn't much room to change things now - she'd rather committed herself her leap at this point. She wasn't quite sure what the grey wolf had in mind however until she hit him and he in turn flipped them both into the water.
SPLASH.
The sound ricocheted through the forest and send roosting birds spiraling up towards the sky - any game animals in the area, including the mysterious 'rabbit' were most assuredly gone by this point. Chiv skittered to her feet as Mene rolled off her fur plastered to her in all directions making her look much like a half drowned rat with a piece of river weed looped over one ear. Grinning at him she shook out her pelt...being sure to shake as much water as possible in his direction before smiling and wagging her tail.
"Perhaps not..but at least we'll be cool for a while"

He huffed as he watched her get up and shake the contents of her fur at him. He in turn shook and being more gentlemanly let the water go back to it's self on the ground. "True enough!" He smirked and then without a single warning bolted away from the water their cave and from her in a playful run to no where.. well not necessarily no where. He knew the area and was leading himself to a field. He loved them to lay in and dry off. It was comfy and pleasant. "If yah wanna dry off follow me!" He shouted as he ran.

Chiv didn't need much of a second invitation and slightly worried that they may have disturbed Merril - who was not in her opinion exactly a morning wolf she dashed off from the scene of the crime after Mene.
Zig zagging through the tree's she had a fairly good idea of where he was taking them - a field not far off had a goodly amount of soft clover and sunshine, perfect for dozing away the late morning hours...or drying off after an impromptu bath in the river.
Reaching the field only moments after he did she jogged to a stop beside him, it had been a lovely morning so far - and she rather hoped the rest of the day would continue in the same way.

As soon as he got there he flopped to the ground belly up, legs relaxed, head back and tongue lolled to the side. Perfect relaxation mode. He stayed poised like that a few moments before speaking. "I'm glad we met, it's been so much more fun. You've really brightened everyday since for me." He smiled, gazing to the sky nose pointed up.
"If only Merril could see us.. she'd have a fit!" He laughed to himself. He didn't know to much of the other wolf but, knew enough to see the reaction on her face. She seemed to be a little uptight in his opinion. But, he guessed from where came from she had to be. He didn't really know.
