She ran quick on her paws and dodging through the unknown forest. It wasn't where she'd spent sixteen years thinking she was nothing more than Briar Rose. And the path through the trees seemed small and twisted, leading her away from her prince.
The fading hooves stamped behind her, whinnies from the black beasts sending her further towards dark brambling briars. She couldn't have recognized them as she'd been in a cursed sleep and she couldn't turn back. The needle pointed barbs bit into her blue dress and ferociously caressed her fur; snagging into her hair to hazard her attempt to get through.
Wincing as one sliced into her paw, she whimpered before breaking through. She turned back to look through but saw nothing, sound growing faint as the riders turned back having failed to get her. Still she edged forward, collapsing into a heap as her golden crown flashed in the setting sunlight. The pink sky of dusk flared against her blonde locks wondering what would befall the naive princess.
A shuddering sob coursed through her body, warm tears splashing from her eyes and soaking into her furry cheeks. It took her time, precious time, to gather herself together. She would be all right, all she had to do was turn around and then she'd be found by Phillip. She breathed in, air wavering, before rising to her paws and wincing again at the brair's cut against her pad. She pulled it to her chest, turning her head to find the brambles had woven together into a firm wall that would not allow her passage. And the sky was fading into dark navy as night began to fall.
And she was alone, lost, in the night not knowing where she was or where she was going.
