Vinny was walking down the sidewalk, head down. He was looking at his feet. Occassionally, if passersby stopped to listen to the preteen, they would hear him muttering. The boy was obviously more upset about his best friend being gay than he had told her. But he was even more upset that she was with Adhara.
He was greedy by nature, and people were included in his greed. He didn't own them, but still. They were his. And he didn't want to share. Especially with someone as bossy as Adhara had been to Aludra the last time he'd been to their house.
"Stupid 'Hara." He muttered, kicking a pebble down the sidewalk.

The split spawn shuffled along, empty canvas bag in hand. As usual, she'd volunteered to go run a few errands. Today's run included getting some zucchini, toilet paper, and a couple twelve packs of soda. Why they needed that, she didn't know; she never questioned the list.
She sighed, making her way to the store in Barton they usually shopped at. She tried not to pay attention to her feet, which were aching in protest with each step she took. The walk from Durem to Barton had been long, and she hadn't stopped to rest once. Ow.

Vinny didn't even notice as he passed 'Zuba, grumbling. It really was strange for Vincent to grumble about anything, he was such a happy spawn. He had never even come close to insulting another--well, unless you counted his brother. (And Vinny had been reassured that brothers did that no matter how well they got along.)
"Stupid Adhara.. Argh. She's so bossy.." Why would anyone want to be with someone so bossy? Okay, so the boy was ignoring the fact that both his parents had this certain flaw. He sighed. He really hadn't told 'Zuba the truth, that he was okay with it.
He wasn't. He was anything but okay.

'Zuba stopped in midstep, looking at the boy. Vincent? "What did you say?" Oooh, a full sentence coming from her. Not a very good sign, especially when combined with her tone. It was calm....but not her usual calm. It was the almost dead calm before the storm hit.

Vinny stopped grumbling and looked up. Uh-oh, 'Zuba. He forced a smile. "Um, nothing.." Adhara was 'Zuba's girlfriend, he couldn't insult the teen in front of his friend! "Going to the store, or something?" He asked, trying to calm his friend down.
Then he did a stupid thing. He gave himself away. "I really didn't say anything bad about Adhara." He said. He was known for being a bad liar, but this... Poor Vinny.

'Zuba was calm, and would have probably believed him. "Yeah, Mother needs-" She stopped, listening to the second half of what he said. Yellow-green eyes narrowed. "Vincent, what did you say?" she said, her tone calm and controlled, though she bit each word off as if it were its own sentence.

Vinny realized how he'd trapped himself, and froze. "I told you--I didn't--...well, I called her bossy." He said, with a slight frown. He prepared himself to be yelled at, he knew he deserved it. "And stupid." He added as an after thought.
Hey, at least the boy was honest. You had to credit him for that, especially when he was talking to his best friend. The best friend known to be more than a little dangerous when angry.

'Zuba had to remind herself that he was a friend and a brother, her arm aching to sock him one. "Adhara is neither bossy nor stupid." She said, her voice dropping an octave or two. She looked calm; but appearances could be deceiving.

Vinny frowned slightly, and muttered under his breath, before looking up at 'Zuba. "She may not be stupid, I haven't had the chance to see her intellect. She is rather bossy." He couldn't deny that one, she had been last time he'd come in contact with her. When he'd ended up babysitting Adelle because Adhara kept bossing Aludra around.

Zuba's hands were clenched into fists, the claws on her left hand threatening to break the skin. "She is not." she said, her tone still deathly calm. That was going to be the last time she verbalized her disagreement; next time; her fists would convey the message instead.

Vinny sighed, and tried to look his friend in the eye. "She was." He said. "She really was." He didn't know what to say, he was expecting to be yelled at, knowing he deserved it. It was pretty obvious the boy had never given a proper insult before.

Now, if she stopped to think about it, she would have noticed the word "was". But, as it were, she just heard the negative comment about Adhara. She'd given the boy a chance to stop and redeem himself; he hadn't taken the opprotunity. So, without another thought to it....Zuba tackled him.

Vincent was frightened. Never in his life had he been tackled, (unless you counted the tackle hugs he recieved from his baby sisters.) He squirmed, and tried to get away. Why was she being so mean? He'd never seen her like this.

Zuba had never really been this violent before. She held him by the shoulder with her left hand, claws digging into cloth and skin. She paused, looming over him silently. This was his last chance, and if he didn't take it.... The girl flexed her right hand, the joints at her fingers cracking.

Vinny just stared at her, eyes wide, he was scared. He didn't say anything, he knew she would just get mad.. He squirmed again, trying to escape the doom he knew was coming.
