The sun was beating down on the lands and Rio made his way out from the comfort of his own Teepee and went into the open valley where many other foals seemed to be during the day. It was a nice place to graze and socialise and the young foal found himself coming here often. The long lush grass stroked his legs as he made his way into the warm rays of light.
His redish eyes looked around the beautiful scenery which where the lands. Walking over to the small river and leaning down to take a drink out of it. Even though this place was like his second home his mother has always told him to be careful but as any little foal. He did not pay much attention. He had never experienced any kind of danger so he did not fear it. Naive youth.

A restless night turned into a rather calm morning for Reila. The breeze blew her mane in just the right way that made her feel...at ease. This time of day she usually had little to no chance of meeting up with the Kalona half of her family. Thankfully right now, she didn't -want- to see them. She really wasn't in the mood.
Eying the river that was approaching, she caught sight of a...winged colt. Would Masquerade consider him a lesser? What should she consider him? Was he worth her time...? As she thought she kept approaching, silently, all of her senses on high alert.

Rio saw some patterns in the water, his ruby eyes leading his gaze to a kelpi filly who was slowly making her way over to him. She looked very Gothic. To say the least. The little skulls on her but making him think of her somewhat of a witch. Holy Mackerel! she was the biggest fish he had ever seen...
"Hello!" he greeted raising a brow. Was she trying to sneak up on him. He had the odd feeling she was looking hi up and down trying to work something out. Then again, that might just be his imagination.

Flicking her tail as she eyed him, she considered just turning away and ignoring him. But then again, she had absolutely no other plans for the day.
Question was; Should she treat him like an equal...?
"...Hello..." She replied in barely more than a whisper. She never did speak any louder, and probably never would.

"Was that a hello?" He asked with a small smile as he happily trotted over to the filly with a curiosity to say the least. He had never seen anyone like her before and she had caught his interest now she so had no chance of getting away until he got bored. Which depending on her reactions to him could take hours. "My name is Rio." he smiled in another polite greeting as he tilted his head to get a better look. His wings flapping slightly to cool himself down.

"..." She stayed silent as he questioned her, too busy trying to figure out how he should be treated. She had been taught that any except the Kalona race were lessers and should be treated as such. Then again, she was no Kalona, as she had been lectured about many times. All the same, she was conflicted.
Watching a leaf float down from a tree, she decided to let it decide what to do for her. Vein-side up, she would walk away from this encounter. Smooth-side up, she'd attempt to converse.
It landed smooth-side up.
"Yes...that was a hello...I am Reila." She answered, her voice just a bit louder.

The female was starting to talk a little bit louder. This was good. She had a nice voice and he wanted to talk to her. He nodded and looked at the river and tilting his head at the clear liquid which was rushing past them. "So can you swim well? I mean with that tail of yours?" he asked trying to make conversation.
He had never talked to a kelpi before but he had heard of them from the grown ups he lived around. It must be a awesome thing. To be able to swim through the water like a speeding bullet. Beats flying.

So much energy.
She wasn't quite used to being around anyone with such...curiosity. She was quickly growing bored...and annoyed. Not exactly the best combination for her to have.
Flicking her tail again, she looked to the river, shrugging. "I can. I do not like to." As a matter of fact, she didn't like water. At all.

"You do not. Why? I mean if I could use my wings I would be in the sky all of the time. So if I had a tail like yours. I guess I would never leave the water. Are you afraid of it?" he asked her. He did not understand how a fish would not like to swim. It would be like... a lion who did not like meat in a sense. At least that is how he saw it. Who can dance should dance. So forth.
With a small smile on his face he shook his head. "I am so sorry, I did not mean to ask you something so personal. Please forgive me." He apologised for all he knew she could have had some bad experience with water. So he did not want to push her into something she was uncomfortable with.

Narrowing her eyes, her tail started to thrash about.
"You are in no place to question me." She snarled, fin standing up as much as it could. "I am not a fish. You are not a bird." she stated simply before walking past him to get a drink. If she had her choice right now, she would be far, far from here.

"No, you are a Kelpi and I am a Wind. Its just the roles we have in life. If you do not want to swim it is your choice. I am sorry you are right. I am in no place to question you and I hope you forgive me. I will make it up to you... Hmm. Do you like Cherry's they are a small sweet fruit. I know were some grow." He smiled hoping this might win her over once again. Rio liked to meet people even more so if he come make friends. He was not the kind of person who would leave it at anything else. He did not want her to hate him. Although if she really wanted him to leave that much. Then he would do to make her happy.
As he waited for a reply he looked at her in a little more detail. Her colours, her pattens. Everything that made her... her. "You are a really pretty mare you know that." He smiled tilting his head in a friendly way putting on a smile to match. He did not mean anything in any deep or loving way. It was just something he had noticed about her which she might like to know. Still being so young he had not got into the habit to knowing what and what not was suitable to say in a situation.
