The area is a large leveled plain. There are some patches of dirt and rocks, but most of it is a grassy field. It's a sunny day, with mild temperature and wind. This is a remote and isolated field, so no other "living" being can be seen for miles.

...Walking ever slowly into the area that would be his battle ground against Mashiro, Amatsu let out a sigh. The outcome of this battle would tell his advancement in the rankings of his squad. 'Crossing an unkown river far from your domain, observe the surface turbulence, and note the clairty of the water. Heed the demeanor of the horses. Beware of massed ambush. At a familiar ford near home, look deep into the shadows on the far bank, and watch the movement of the tall grass. Listen to the breathing of your nearest companions. Beware of the lone assassin.' Thought Amatsu as he stopped in the center of the area. Amatsu hands ran across the book that was hidden within his clothing. Within his mind he was quoting it over and over again. Even though no lone assassin, nor an ambush would happen. It was a good reminder to stay vigilant, even in the most secure area of your utmost home. Amatsu stood silently, waiting on his opponent, and fellow squad mate to enter...

[Intro]

Today Mashiro was to fight another member of his squad, Amatsu. Oddly enough Mashiro had never met this particular Shinigami. Now he knew most, or at least so he thought, of the Squad members. Before heading into the battlefield Mashiro did do a little bit of research on his shinigami Squad mate. As he walked onto the field, with his zanpaku-tou at in his left hand, he saw a male shinigami and knew imediatly who it was. Though he had never seen him before, Mashiro was given a physical description by his old friend Hatsume. The shinigami appears to be early twenties. Standing about 5'11" and weighing about 136lb, has a swimmers build. Bright blue eyes, almost gray, slightly narrow face, but has a childish look about it, a smile seems to always rest across his lips, straight black hair with a fringe over his right eye, slightly spiky in the back, a sky blue mark that comes from the ending crease of his left eye to his jaw, even with his lower lip. Always wears fingerless gloves over his hands. Seems to never pay attention, always has a 'not here' sort of look across his face... "Amastu I take it?" Mashiro asked with his usual formality. His expression was blank and unchanging as he continued to speak. " Let us not waste to much of our time, mellonien." with that he took the hilt of his zanpaku-tou in his right hand and pulled the sleak steel blade from its scabard. With one gentle toss, the scabard lay on the ground out of the way. Then Mashiro shifted his body so that his right leg was out infront of his body, and his left leg was behind. He gripped the katana with both hands as he waited for Amatsu to make his move.

(( Just so that you know Mellonien is Elvish for My Friend... its from Professor Tolkien))

...The moment Amatsu realized there was no unknown danger coming anytime soon, Amatsu let out a sigh of relief. Reachig into the area between his sash, and his hakama, Amatsu removed a pack of cigarettes. Taking one out he placed the pack back where he got them. Lighting a match that he seemed to get from no where Amatsu lit the cigarette and tossed the match to the ground. Placing his foot over it to make sure it was out. Taking a deep inhale Amatsu closed his eyes as a gentle breeze flowed through the area. Suddenly he heard someone walking toward him. "Eh?" He said as he turned about to face Mashiro. A smile formed faintly over his face. "That I am last time I checked!" Amatsu chuckled in a light tone. Just as soon as the formalities were to begin, they were over. "Umm... Ok... edger to lose are we?" He said in a chuckling tone. Watching as Mashiro unsheathed his Zanpakuto, and tossed his sheath to the side Amatsu shook his head. In battle everything must be used as a weapon. Taking note of the location of the sheath Amatsu placed his right hand firmly around the sheath of his on blade. His left hand gripped loosely around the hilt of his Zanpakuto. "I guess you'd like me to start the battle?" He said in a monotone as though he really didn't want to. It wasn't really him to start one, just to finish it...

...Leaning forward ever slightly, Amatsu was ready to rocket forward. A direct attack was the best way to catch someone off guard for the rest of the battle. From the first attack, and the way someone took the direct blow could result in the next opening. Amatsu took off from his position toward Mashiro. A slight cloud of dust formed where he once stood. As he reached Mashiro in about a second, Amatsu unleashed his blade in a wide horizontal arc, aimed at his lower torso. At the same time. Amatsu had brought his sheath out of his sash, and held it loosely, and out of sight to his right side. It could be used for many things in a battle...

Heh.. Mashiro could not help but smile as Amatsu spoke. Though seeing that he tried not to put emotion in his battles, the fellow shinigami was almost cocky. Or at least in the sense that he was overlooking Mashiro's potential. " If you don't mind." Mashiro said, responding to Amatsu's question. As Amatsu ran at him, Mashiro braiced himself. He had to admit that he as indeed as fast as he looked. Just like Shinzou, Mashiro would have to rely on some new tactics in order to compesate for the lack of speed. Amatsu came really close to Mashiro before he drew his blade. This was an attack that Mashiro had anticipaited, seeing how original it was. Then again Mashiro was always one for tradition and originality. Stepping off to the side while swingng his blade, Mashiro found Amatsu opened on his left side. Mashiro had parried the on comming attack just in time to see Amatsu stumble a little as he made his move. The blonde shinigami rose his blade and swung it vertically as if to cut Amatsu in half. Mashiro knew that the attack would easily be averted, so he came up with plan be. Anticipaiting Amatsu's block with his zanpaku-to, Mashiro released his left hand from the blade, before he swung. While seeing Amatsu make a move, Mashiro pointed his finger at the unexpecting shinigami. Hadou#1, Shou." a slight white light came to Mashiro finger as he flung Amatsu back with the perfect kidou attack. Now he waited for the new set of attacks that the Black Haired Shinigami would send him.

[Not really sure where I stumbled, nor where my left flank was open due to the blade being swung that way... but i'll go along with it.]

...Mashiro seemed to make several mistakes at once, but Amatsu knew it was to be expected. Amatsu had made many mistakes in many fights. Most recently he had been hurt by Captain Mock himself, though he had already healed, and learned from that. Mashiro's first mistake was not taking into concept Amatsu's other hand that wasn't upon his blade. He could have easily over powered Amatsu's single handed slash with his on two handed slash. The second was still not taking into concept his free hand. As his slash completely missed Mashiro, Amatsu grinned slightly. His free hand shot up just under his left hand with his palm flat out. "Seki!" He shouted. As he did a translucent barrier appeared between himself and Mashiro. First the and utmost the blade of Mashiro's was nulled, and the weaker leveled Hadou stood no chance at his level of breaking the barrier. Amatsu continued with the momentum of his slash, while twisting his body just slightly. His blade came right at Mashiro's right shoulder. Unlike what it appeared to be with Mashiro, Amatsu wasn't looking to kill Mashiro. Suddenly Amatsu's still free hand clasped into a fist, with the exception of his index, and middle finger...

..."Byakurai!" He exclaimed, as he did a blast of bright white beam of distorted reiatsu shot out of his fingers toward Mashiro's stomach. If it connected it wouldn't create a hole in his stomach due to Amatsu not putting enough effort into the blast, but it would leave wounds and such along his torso. Apparently Mashiro was underestimating Amatsu's ability to counteract anything he could throw at him. Amatsu hadn't doubted Mashiro yet. Just calculated his on research of Mashiro into the battle. Mashiro had acquired his Shikai about the same time as Amatsu, so that meant he must have had high battle experience, but at the same time he was a older member in the 13th Devision than Amatsu. Though Amatsu had still had more battle experience...

How? How can I be so stupid? Mashiro asked himself as the current events played itself out. Not only had Mashiro underestimated the shinigmai, but also wasn't giving it his all. For some strange reason Mashiro thought this was going to be an easy win, concidering that his Squad mate was fresh, but then again so was he. It had not been long since Mashiro joined the 13th Squad when Amatsu was accepted. However, even under the short period of thime, and under the trainning if Mock-Taichou Mashiro was almost near veteran status. The only keeping him back was mistakes like this one, underestimaiting...
Mashiro's attack was blocked by the astounding Bakudou #8, Seki, which was nothing more than a low level barrier, yet it was enough to bounce Mashiro off Amatsu long enough for him to counter. Mashiro saw Amatsu position his hand for another kidou. This would have been easy, since Mashiro was used to dealing with kidou at a short range. But Amatsu also moved his blade to catch Mashiro's right shoulder. Mashiro changd hands with his zanpaku-tou, from his right hand to his left hand. Blocking the katana with one hand allowed Mashiro to counter Amatsu's new attack. Before he had the chance to fire off the Byakurai, Mashiro grabbed his hand. Mashiro knew by raising his Spiritual Pressure around his right arm would while holding Amatsu's hand would allow the kidou to be held back. This was risky since no one, not even a kidou master, could exicute this perfectly. However, Mashiro had no other choice. " Byakurai.." Mashiro said in a cold blooded calmness. Now both Mashiro's hand and Amatsu's had a blue orb, almost, around them. Mashiro was hoping that the blast would deal some damage to Amatsu, and give the proper cover for the next attack. Just as Mashiro thought, the Byakurai exploded in both of their hands, sending both of them flying. The blonde shinigami caught himself in mid air. He brought his zanpaku-tou to his left side, with the blade outward, and jumped into the general direction of Amatsu. Mashiro was no longer allowing this battle to tip in his favor. Already Mashiro had underestimaited him and has felt the sideaffects. Now he had only to rely on his skill with the blade, and his endurence. However, he had taken quite a hit from the Byakurai explosion, himself, let alone what it could have done to Amatsu. Mashiro had full confidence that his Squad mate would pull though. But now it was his turn...

...As Mashiro's hand landed upon Amatsu's, he let a laugh escape, "Wow..." Was all he could say as Mashiro negated his attack. Smoke filled the area between Amatsu and Mashiro as he released it. Suddenly Mashiro's hand began to glow a bright white around Amatsu's. "Eh?" Suddenly Amatsu was blasted back a good thirty feet. Rolling back, Amatsu planted his hand firmly on the ground with his sheath in the same hand. Flipping upward Amatsu slid back a few feet. Looking down at his now bloody, and burnt hand, Amatsu shook it. A few busies rested across his body, nothing major. "That was a slight idiotic move, but from it I conclude that you think i'm the better swordsmen, eh? Putting space between us could only lead to that conclusion." As he spoke in a slightly loud voice to reach across the plain Amatsu let out deep sigh. To his left he began to twirl his Zanpakuto in his hand, waiting for Mashiro to be the attacker this time...

...As he twirled his blade, Amatsu wondered what Mashiro would attack with. He seemed to be a balanced person, only learning the essential to battle, then excelling in them. Amatsu then stopped his blade from spinning, holding his sheath up, Amatsu placed the tip of his blade back in the sheath. Entering his Zanpakuto with a loud clank. Amatsu then shifted his feet apart, and turned to the side, his left shoulder facing Mashiro. Amatsu was slightly crouched. His let hand laid loosely along the hilt of his Zanpakuto in its sheath, while his right hand was loosely around the sheath, just below the hilt guard. Whatever Mashiro's attack would be Amatsu wouldn't have much trouble preparing for it in this position...

Mashiro's plan seemed to work. The Byakurai Blast sent both of them flying, allowing Mashiro to get himself into a better position. As Mashiro came through the smoke filled area where Amastu now waited for him, he heard his voice. Allowing his fellow shinigami to speak, Mashiro held his blade flew over Amatsu, without so much a peep. As Mashiro landed, with a thud, he could not help but let out a slight chuckle. " No.." He said, wiping his blade in the air as if he had just cut Amatsu in half, which he apparently did not do. " Or at least, I have not given you the chance to show me your full power with the blade. I just needed a little room to continue with my attack. After all, and elbow to the face could easily throw off even the most experianced fighter.... But, now we much conclude this battle." Mashiro said, though a little but of arrogance in his voice. However, Mashiro believed he found out how Amatsu really fights, so he was counting on his assesment to take him out. Already Amatsu has assumed that Mashiro was not as good as he was at the bladed combat. I hope I am right.... Mashiro thought as he ran at Amatsu for his next set of attacks....
Mashiro brought the finger guard of the blade to neck level as he ran at Amatsu. As he approached he swung his blade in a horizantle motion. Then figuring that Amatsu would parry it with is own blade, Mashiro duck down and tried to trip him. If this failed Mashiro's next move would prove faital if not averted. " Hadou #1, Shou." Mashiro said as he pointed his left index finger which had been removed from the blade to cast the kidou. He put just enough power into it to through Amatsu off guard as he tried to plung the blade into Amatsu's stomache with his zanpaku-tou in his right hand. Though this was a one handed attack, Mashiro's speed with the blade was noticable enough to make some type of dent in Amatsu, if properly exicuted.

[4/5]

...As the smoke from the explosion filled the area, Amatsu listened to his opponent speak, just afterwards his opponent attempted to rush him once more. It seemed kind of stupid of him. Get some distance between them, then just rush once more? Maybe Mashiro wasn't in very good shape and needed a breather. Either way it seemed the battle was once more blade to blade, or without much Mashiro used Kido, Kido to tactics. As Mashiro raised his blade up, Amatsu could see the first half of his attack and what it would be. The moment Mashiro's Zanpakuto was coming at Amatsu, he leaped back with ease, leaving a small slice across his chest. About the same as a large paper cut. Even so the length of it made it bleed. "Eh?" Amatsu said as he looked down at it. "What'a know. You got me. " He said playfully as he watched the rest of Mashiro's attack fall on deaf ears as you could say. Pointing his index, and middle finger at Mashiro. Amatsu muttered a few words. "Houdo Number Four: Byakurai..." With that a bright ball of white light began to from on the end of his fingers...

...Suddenly a blast of distorted lightning erupted from Amatsu's fingers. A steady smile rested across Amatsu's lips. Mashiro was a cocky person that he could see. Hopefully this battle would end before Amatsu got tired of it and forfeited. His battle with Shinzou was much more entertaining, and less bothersome than this one. As his thoughts continued to wander the blast was getting closer and closer to Mashiro...

[4/5]

Mashiro was surprised that Amatsu could summon a Byakurai with such short notice. Usually most shinigami will make it known that they are using kidou, but it takes a true, skilled shinigami to use a kidou "Unnoticed". Mashiro raised his blade to counter the Byakurai. The Blue light hit the blade and stalled for a second before he was able to knock it to his left side. Mashiro misjudged the block and the Byakurai ran into his side. With no time to worry about the damage Mashiro refocused on Amatsu and moved toward him. He could tell that he (Amatsu) was not into the battle, for some reason he looked as if he was bored. This was an insult to Mashiro. All this time Mashiro had been fighting and Amatsu was just going with the flow...
Mashiro swung his blade vertically, with his right hand, at Amatsu. Then simultaneously turned and kicked with his left leg. Yet even as he made his attack, Mashiro knew this battle was going to be over with before Mashiro could prove any worth to the shinigami. The irony of this situation was a little more than Mashiro could really handle, but he made it through. Now Mashiro just stood there looking at Amatsu, waiting for a response. However, he was able to speak before Amatsu responded. " Whats wrong, Amatsu? I thought you wanted to fight, but now you seem to be going with the flow, unless you have been going with the flow all along." This made Mashiro go into a deep thought and made another quote a few minutes later. " Ah... Nevermind me, I am still learning on my fighting and not the best, let me tell you that. If you want to give up then go ahead, but if you would like, I want to get at least one more move before we head back." With than Mashiro ran at Amatsu. As he ran he jumped and went kick Amatsu, this was not much of an attack, but now Mashiro had lost interest in the fight too. He was mostly discouraged by Amatus's reactions to his attacks. Yet, he felt as if he had, had an Epiphany in just the short couple of minutes of talking. He was going to do what it took to make sure he could hold his own.

...As Amatsu attack seemed to be blocked, Amatsu noticed his attack had just barely grazed Mashiro. Even though Amatsu wasn't the strongest, nor the fastest due to he didn't recite the incantation and he didn't put in that much reiatsu for the sake time. Suddenly without as much as a flinch, Mashiro rushed forward. He's pace was steady, and fluent. It seemed he was determined, at the same time he seemed to see something. Amatsu twisted his blade within his hand to where the bladed edge was closer to the bade side of his hand. Watching carefully as the attack from Mashiro came at him, Amatsu lifted his blade to block the attack. At almost the same time Amatsu saw Mashiro begin to spin, he was bringing in another attack. Amatsu outstretched his right hand to block the kick. Hopefully it would work. Amatsu wasn't feeling very original...

...Then the annoying voice came once again. It was Mashiro talking. "You've done good. I'm very impressed. I wouldn't be surprised if you win this match, and I don't..." Amatsu said in a honest tone. Amatsu then saw the third attack coming at him. It was a simple kick. Amatsu chuckled a little. Twisting his blade once more, Amatsu held his blade normally in his left hand. As the kick came closer and closer, Amatsu rotated his Zanpakuto once more. Now the dull edge was on the attacking side. Bringing it down with the same force he would bring down a bladed edge, Amatsu knew it would only break bones at the most. Amatsu continued to smile at him with a steady bored look across his face...

BAKA! Mashiro had not time to really dodge Amatus's blade, but he did move slightly. The blade made a large cut along his leg. Landing behind Amatsu, he turned and spoke once again. " Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off like that, Amatsu.... heh, but I guess and eye for an eye will work just fine." Then Mashiro moved so Amatsu could see the red blood running down his leg. With a smile Mashiro bowed in respect to his fellow shinigami. With no word, Mashiro walked away but suddenly stopped when he was far enough away that it was hard to hear him. " Thank you for showing me what my limits are, Amatsu. Next time I will be more powerful." With that Mashiro exited the battle area and went back to the Squad Barracks...
This whole experience allowed Mashiro to see how he could fight better, and it was just what he needed. Though his fight with Shinzou was a loss, it was not as interesting as this fight. Amatsu, a newer member than he, was able to hold his own and may even with the fight. However, Mashiro cared not and could walk away with his pride and a renewed since of being.

(( Thanks for the fun time, Matt ^_^))

Winner: Amatsu.

Both of you need to watch out for fragments, spelling, and basic grammar issues, especially when dealing with the break up of sentences. Also, you guys have a tendency to repeat a name (either yours or the opponents) in the same sentence. When the subject is already established at the beginning, you can move on to using pronouns - it makes the writing flow a lot more.

Mashiro - you have issue with verb tense confusion, so be careful with what tense you choose to write in. Even if it is an analytical point, or a reflection upon the past, you can stick to the same tense. Generally you used past and that does work best. Most of your spelling is okay, you just miss out on typing a few letters to complete the words, so be careful of that. The biggest issue I saw was that sometimes you don't read your opponent's post clearly, or you auto-hit (such as grabbing Amatsu's arm). Just re-read your posts more and edit for those problems and you'll be fine.

Amatsu - you have some problems with adjective placement, and sometimes you used words that do not fit the context at all. Usually I can see what general "statement" or "word pattern" you are aiming for, but unless you remember the proper words, avoid using those (such as "taking into account" you said "taking into concept" instead, which makes no sense.).

I'll have to agree with Suri here, Amatsu wins.

You both did good, but I just think that Amatsu did better. Good description, writing style, a few mistakes, but it happens. You both did good though :3
