Bryna quietly stalked the small herd of deer, slinking quietly through the thick underbrush and shrub trees upwind of them. She kept her eyes on the two young bucks in the herd, each sporting a small, but sharp-looking rack of horns. It would be incredibly foolish to try for one of the bucks as a lone wolf. It bordered-- no, crossed the line into, extreme stupidity. Bryna was not that much of a fool. The does, however, didn't have horns to gouge her with. Their hooves could still be dangerous, but deer tended to scatter rather than fight, and the bucks were young enough that they could still be startled by an attacking wolf.

Bryna stopped moving, eyes fixed on the nearest doe as she moved a little closer to Bryna's cover. Unfortunately, the herd moved with her. Bryna tensed her muscles, readying herself, and suddenly sprung from her hiding place with her teeth bared. The doe she was aiming for let out a loud, frightened bleat-sounding noise and reared up. Bryna dodged the hooves, intending on going for the doe's throat for a clean kill. Instead she only wounded the doe, teeth ripping open the doe's flesh as Bryna went by. The injured doe took off running, blood pouring down her neck.

Bryna whirled neatly as she landed and started to sprint in pursuit, hoping to finish her kill quickly, but abruptly stopped as one of the bucks turned back to her, murder in his eyes. Bryna's eyes widened as he charged her, rack lowered, and she let out a loud yelp as she leapt out of the way just in time, the horns grazing her back leg. She landed on her feet with a snarl, but it cut off abruptly as she felt the pain in her back leg. Although it would most likely heal with no trouble, it would hamper her ability to maneuver in this situation, which meant serious trouble for Bryna. She braced herself with her teeth bared as the buck slowed himself and whirled back around towards her.

Damn.

The morning had started out like all other mornings. The sun hung over the lands with a its rays shining upon the treetops and mountains. The sky was blue like sapphire, and he found himself happy to see another day.

He stretched out his long legs, yawning a bit to remove the last traces of sleep from his muscles.
When he stood back up, he shook, and then began moving forward.
He didn't know what he would do today, in fact he never did.
But his adventures made his life truly exciting.

He had been making his way through the forest, the floor covered in leaves and dirt, and the occasional trunk root that stuck out from it all.
He was careful not to trip, and he began humming a little tune that had been stuck in his head.

The bleat of the doe had perked his ears. Ah, obviously someone having their morning hunt. He couldnt blame them, his own belly was starting to grumble its protests to not having eaten yet.
He went to continue on his way, until he heard the whine of a wolf on the wind.

Instantly he knew something was not good. He knew those cries.
He flew through the woods, as if on wings though he was carried only by his paws.

He was astonished at what he saw. A buck, with a heavy set of antlers, was wheeling around for its attack on an injured wolf.
The wolf was lowered to the earth, in what seemed like her only defense.
Get as close to the earth as possible.
She was obviously hurt, no wolf would not move out of the way.

He was angry at the deer for its change in the food chain. That deer knew its role in life, and he knew this was not it.

Letting out an angry growl, he darted after the deer, getting in between the antlers and the she-wolf.

"Pick on someone your own size."
He growled, bringing attention to the fact that he was a larger male for a wolf.

Hunkered down to the ground, Bryna's muscles were tensed to jump aside at the last second, but she was not relishing the thought as anything other than escaping certain death.

Suddenly another figured darted between her and the deer and growled a challenge. Clearly not having expected another wolf to step into the picture, the buck's lowered head shot up and the whites of his eyes showed in surprise. The buck stumbled back, his instincts telling him this was a fight he couldn't win-- not with two wolves in the picture, even if one was injured-- and he took off running in the opposite direction his herd had taken.

Bryna watched him go for a moment, knowing he'd catch up to the herd later-- stupid beast-- before she looked back at the interloper. For a moment she fluxated between extreme annoyance with herself and with the male for interfering, and relief that she hadn't had to move on her injured limb. The annoyance finally won out, mostly fueled by the arrogant assumptions she was sure the male would make now that he had helped her.

"Thank you, but I could have handled it myself." She stood up straight, keeping her eyes on the male although she longed to see how bad the gouge was on her leg. It stung horribly, but Bryna forced herself to keep her head and tail erect and her back stiffly straight. Probably a bit more stiff than usual, but she wouldn't let a little injury make her seem like an omega.

The buck was smart. It new better than to mess with the wolves. Two wolves were death to a buck, and even moreso if the male was large.
He breathed out, keeping his postion and not relaxing until the beast was out of view.

When she spoke, he turned around. He was surprised to see her standing on her leg, and his ears went back as he saw the wound. Surely she shouldnt be standing on it.

Ignoring caution, he approached her and and nudged her gently, his ears still to his head.
"Careful, careful now. It looks kinda bad, don't want you straining it."

Then he backed away when he truly heard her words, and nodded.

"I know you could've, but I was here and I thought Id do what I could.. Truthfully I was scared for you.. Its not in my nature to let someone just get hurt and hope they can get out of it."

He said, trying to offer her a kind hearted smile.
"My name is Warrick, ma'am. What do they call you?"
He asked, cocking his head, trying for friendly conversation.

His first words sent Bryna into stubborn Beta mode, but it quickly washed out once he backed away and corrected himself. She couldn't stay angry when it was obvious he had the best of intentions and was just trying to help. Of course males always did, but at least he knew when to give a wolf space to breathe. Plus, he hadn't mentioned her gender as being the reason he'd stepped in. Bryna stared at him as he spoke, and cringed slightly when he called her "ma'am." She hadn't gotten that old, had she?

When you start asking that question, it means you have, she thought dryly to herself.

She studied him, sizing up the slightly younger wolf as she cautiously shifted her weight away from her bad leg, hoping to make it a subtle movement.

"I am Bryna," she introduced, feeling it was only right that she answer since he was introducing himself too.

Her leg distracted her, but she stubbornly kept her eyes on him. She needed to get it cleaned out before it became infected, but she didn't know of any safe water sources around-- she hadn't passed any recently-- and she couldn't smell any source of water, not even so much as a small spring. It was clear that she would have to ask for this wolf's help, since he most likely knew the area better than she did.

"I need somewhere to wash out my cut," she announced. "Can you show me to a water source somewhere close?" The closer it was, the less she had to walk on the wound before it could be properly cleaned out. In Bryna's mind, it made perfect sense for her to stop being angry with him for helping and half-ask, half-order him to help her with something else.

He had lived in this area all his life. He knew it like the back of his paw. God only knew he had completely wandered over every stretch of land in the area.

"Its a pleasure Bryna. You have a very pretty name."
He smiled a bit, wagging his tail.
Her wound seemed painful though, and he wanted to help her..

He knew of plenty of water sources around, but only one was closer than the other.
He could have cleaned it for her, but that was a wound that needed water to completely rinse it clean.

"Theres a lake nearby, its a freshwater lake, and it has its own little water fall. Its rather pretty.. But it serves its purpose."
He said, motioning to her leg.

She was a pretty wolf, and he didnt think she was old at all. She still had her gleaming silver grey pelt with the darker set paws and the wonderful colored eyes.
She was quite pretty if he said so himself.

"We could get there pretty quickly, Im sure."

"That's perfect, thank you." Bryna motioned with her nose that he should take the lead. She waited until he had started to turn from her before she took her first step, trying to hold back the cringe as she took her first solid steps on the injury. Even though it hurt, she wasn't about to let it show. Betas were strong and had to appear that way as long as they were able to, especially in front of strange wolves. Besides, Bryna could handle it herself, she didn't need anyone to lean on. He was helping her to the lake, that was useful, but she was just fine handling herself, thanks.

Focusing her mind somewhere else would help Bryna fend off the pain. She needed to think about what she was going to do once they got to the lake, not how long it would take to get there. Cleaning the gash was only the first step, after all. It would take time for the injury to heal, so Bryna might have a better chance of recovery if she stayed at the lake Warrick was describing for a few days and took it easy on herself. Her packmates-- wherever they were-- could wait that long.

Her eyes refocused from her thoughts to her guide as they moved off through the forest, heading for the lake that was apparently downwind of them.

He definitely does live here. Or has at least lived here long enough to know the area. Not a loner then, probably pack bound, Bryna assessed. A helpful Gamma, then, which says the local pack is at least not aggressive without cause. Not crazy, nor murderers. That's some comfort.

He knew that she probably saw him as submissive, the way he was acting. But he was just respectful of females.. Maybe overly respective, but he was a gentleman with a heart of gold.
Though normally he was more suited for damsel in distress, it was refreshing to have a strong female that could handle herself it seemed.

His pack was not aggressive, and in fact they were the kind pack of the areas. The nieghboring pack Agua Azul was the pack to keep your eyes out for.

"You're welcome."
He offered, a smile on his maw. He took this time to lift his head and tail a bit, so he didnt carry himself as a loner, or omega might. He was a proud boy, and would act as such.

He wanted to help her with her leg, but felt a bit nervous that maybe his company would be unwanted in that situation.

He led her a little ways away, before the lake finally came into view.
It was a little large, and plenty big enough for the two of them, and probably about three hundred more wolves.

"Im sorry..If I stepped on your boundaries, miss."

Bryna was so focused on walking that she almost didn't realize that Warrick was talking to her.

"It's fine. There wasn't any harm done," she assured him, concentrating on keeping her steps strong as she observed the lake. "This will be perfect."

She stepped away from him, carefully walking into the shallows and settling herself in the water and allowing the movement to assist in washing out the wound as she found a comfortable position. Although it wasn't exactly the least painful thing she could do, Bryna stood and moved a little, letting the water flow clean any dirt from the gash. Once it was cleared of the blood that had been clotting around it, Bryna got a good look at the actual wound.

Long, but not too deep. It will heal in a few days.

The judgement calmed her hectic thoughts and she looked to Warrick on the shore, still holding himself proudly. It looked fairly natural for him, and Bryna quickly rethought her initial impression of him being a Gamma. "Thank you again, Warrick. Will your pack mind me staying here for a few days?" She looked down at her water-distorted leg. "I don't think I should move before this heals a bit."

He knew full well the pack would not mind the presence of the female. Especially with her being wounded and such. The pack were suckers for injured but kind wolves.

"No, you shouldnt move it for a good while. If you like, I can bring you meats and other good foods to fill your belly for a few days. Wouldnt want that limb going lame or anything."

He noted, nodding and looking back at her as he sat and curled his tail around his paws.

"Though if you dont want me to, I wont."

Bryna looked down at the water, but her mind was already made up. He was right, she didn't want her leg to get stiff and uncooperative, and so far didn't seem to mind her being a stranger in his territory. That he hadn't asked too many personal questions helped as well. She brought her eyes back up to his and nodded.

"If you wouldn't mind, any help you can offer-- food or otherwise-- is appreciated. One of those deer was supposed to be a meal. Unfortunately, things obviously didn't turn out as well as I could have hoped.

"A few days should be enough to at least get the wound healed enough for me to be on my way again." Although not comfortably, she conceded silently.
