Sonata sang to her self as she flew over the lake. "Yo ho Yo ho a Pirate's life for me!" What was a pirate anyway? Was it a soquili, or a two legger? And what did they do. All Sonata knew was the song about them, and the song itself didn't hold much information. She loved to sing it though, it had a nice tune and was perfect for her voice. The words were interesting too. Where else could she say Yo ho? Still wondering about pirates, she decided she would ask her Da next time she saw him. He would know, her Da knew everything.
She dipped down and skimmed the surface of the lake with a hoof, instantly feeling a spray of water droplets pelt her wings and belly. The spray also created a small rainbow, Sonata was pleased to see. The cool water felt good in the heat of summer, and she liked how her voice reverberated off the water below her, almost making it seem like there were two of her singing.

Claude watched amusedly from his napping place int he shade. Foals always put a smile on his face. Perhaps his mother had rubbed off on him that way. He could remember the carefree days of his childhood. Even more so the day he frist flew. Granted, due to his mother being and Usdia, he ahd to leave in his early adolescence to learn to fly, but that made it no less special. It was refeshing, both to be gently sprayed in his half-alert state by the pleasently cool water, and to hear the happy singing of the filly. He had opened a sleepy eye when he heard wings coming from the sky just a moment ago. since then he'd forced them both open. My, she looked familiar... He couldn't place his hoof on it however. It was very cute. The Knight and the Pirate... how approriate. He yawned widely and lifted his head tiredly. "And really bad eggs... drink up be hardies, yo ho," he muttered to himself. He'd heard his two-legger Vallor singing that song before. He rather liked the nonsense words. It would appear this filly did too. He was tempted to bekon the filly over. However, seeing as to how he was tired, and she was having too much fun, he let her be. If she wanted to come and seehim, she would.

Sonata's voice trailed off into a hum, when she heard a faint voice say "Drink up be hardies, yo ho" She grinned, that was perfect for her song! Trying to sound professional, she said, "Alright, once more from the top!" Whatever that meant. "Being sober one of the most common ails, drink up be hardies yo ho Yo Ho! Rum and beer and wind in the sails, Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me, Yo Ho!" She hummed the tune once before realizing the voice she had heard during her creative moment hadn't just come out of thin air. A body had to belong to that voice. Being incredibly curious, Sonata looked to where the voice had come from and saw a fire red stallion sitting in the shade. Looking closer she was very pleased to see that he had wings! Different from hers and her mom's, but wings non the less. She flew over and said, "Where did you learn those words? They were the perfect words for me to finish my song!"

Claude looked at the filly with slightly bleary eyes. He took a moment to focus on her, and then stretched before he spoke. "An old sairlor from the old world taught it to my two legger. He sings it from time to time as he works. Though, I must say, that was a lovley take on the song." He chuckled a little bit and stood. "And you voice is lovley. Did it come with a name, as well as a lovley owner?" He bowed deeply to the filly, chuckling to himself. Yes, those wings did look familiar... it was almost impossible to place... they were so unique, yet he couldn't find a name to go with them. Still, he smiled and lifted his head, shaking out his mane. This dislodged quite a few twigs and leaves, the rest of which he'd pick out later.

Sonata grinned, as it was not in her nature to be afraid of anything, strangers included. "Saaler? Thats a funny word. All twolegger words are funny though." She added it to her mental dictionary, maybe she could use it in a song later. "My name is Sonata, but my mom Symphony's voice is lovelier, its all melodic and always perfectly in tune." She sighed dreamily... someday she would have a voice like that. "My brother's voice is really nice too, all deep and it always complements my mom's voice just right." She made a face, "My voice is still all foaly squeaky, I sound like a bird with a berry stuck in its windpipe" She grinned as a picture of that scene blossomed in her mind.

A small light bulb went off in Claud'es head. Of course she was Symphony's girl. Claude smiled brightly and said with sudden realization, "Of course, I see it now. I know your mother quite well. My mother is a good frind of a couple of your herd mates. Qin and Martin? Her name is Scarlet. Mine is Claude, and it is an honor to meet one of her off spring." He stood and bowed deeply. "I too am very fond of her voice. It is lovley isn't it? If she wasn't already promised, I may have tried to sweep her off her feet. And it seem that you have inherited not only her beautiful voice, but her exquisite markings as well." He smield and settled back into the grass. "You must forgive my impropriety. Is is propper to stand for the lady but... I just haven't the will. It's my first day off in a week." He smield fondly. "You sound nothing like that. You simply have an undeveloped voice, nothign to be ashamed of. You'll grow into it in good time, my dear."

Sonata jiggled her head in acknowledgment, of course she had heard of Scarlet, she was Qin's best friend! She had never met the corgi usdia, but on many rainy days she had sat next to Qin by the fire and heard him tell stories of his and Scarlets adventures. She figited slightly as he bowed to her, she had never had anyone bow to her before. Sonata gave a jerky, half bow in return, thinking of something she had heard before, weren't girls supposed to curtsy? She shook her head, emptying it of the random thoughts that flew in and out. As Claude talked about her Mom, Sonata grew more comfortable. Here was a subject she was an expert on!
"Everyone in my family can sing. Well, except for my Da, he's about as musical as a rock." She made a face. As much as she loved her Da, she wanted to cut off her ears when he tried to serenade her mom. She plopped down on the ground beside Claude. "Thats okay, you don't have to stand." Curious, she asked, "You're first day off from what?"

Claude laughed. "I fear that I'm the same as your father. I haven't a musical bone in me. I've tried to hone something of what I have sung to maybe sound like a sort of note, but I've never once succeeded. I ust sounds worse by ten fold, I must confess. But I feel it is wonderful that we have those in the world that bring us music, much like your and your family... minus your father, of course." Claude wiggled around a little to make room for the filly. Family or not, there was a proper ditence to be saved between two non-familial soquili. "It's good to hear your mother is doing well, and so are her brood," he finished with a sigh. He hadn't been up to see Symphony in many a moon. He should perhaps make that trip someday soon. He tilted his head over owards her at her question. "I teach fillies and colts to be Sir and Lady Knights. I teach them to use thier bodies as a line of defense against evil, but only if absolutley necessary. I teach them eddiquette, manners, and what to say and when to say it. If necessary, I teach those with wings to fly, unicorns to heal, and futters to change thier sizes. It's a profession of sorts. I travel to thier homes and under the supervision of thier parents I teach them what I know on what they wish to learn. The parents ask the questions they wish to, and I explain both to the child and the parents what I'm doing. It's very much a joy to me."
